Particularities of security design for wireless networks in small and medium business (SMB)

Small businesses often have small budgets, which often means no fulltime IT staff or no possibility to hire a security consultant to set up a wireless LAN properly. This paper tries to develop a methodology for designing security for wireless networks in SMB. There are more security options to choose from, when setting up a wireless network, thus the security features needed for a company must be carefully taken in consideration. Analysis of the Natura 2000 Networks in Sweden and Spain

In this paper the main differences between Natura 2000 Network in Sweden and Spain are analyzed. Comparing different documents at different levels: European, national and regional, the author aims to understand which strategies have been taken in both countries regarding the implementation, management, funding and social reactions of Natura 2000 Network and verify whether in a common Europe the differences in the understanding of environmental common policy are decisive and define the implementation process. The results can clearly show that such differences occur in practically the total issues analyzed. Sweden could be characterized by its orderly and homogeneous implementation process with a close communication between public administration and stakeholders that have influenced all the process. As a result its Natura 2000 Network has marked differences on distribution and size in its Natura sites. Spain, however, shows a heterogeneous and complicated process characterized for both the disinformation due to the lack of communication with the stakeholders and controversial legislative measures which caused social reactions against this network. In contrast it seems that the criteria followed for the sites selection were less influenced by stakeholders. As a conclusion environmental Directives transpositions are being fulfilled with different criteria having as a result significant differences in their final objective

Web Content Management Systems, a Collaborative Environment in the Information Society

The aim of the present paper is to analyze the main models of collaboration and the use of a Web CMS, in order to develop an online community. Taking into consideration the multitude of the existing Web CMSs on the market and their diverse functionalities, we conducted a prospective study that tests the development trends in the field, with the view of finding out which are the most important Web CMSs in practice, and which are the most important functionalities they have to possess, in order to develop a collaborative online community. The results of the study show that the most popular Web CMS is Joomla, and the most widespread programming language is PHP. Likewise, we consider that this study can help the entry-level web developers to get an overview of the most popular Web CMSs, and their functionalities.collaboration, content management, web content management systems

Developing Awareness of Feedback in Teachers and Students (A Survey of Feedback in Education and Three Teacher-Training Workshops)

This paper is a study of feedback and three teacher-training workshops on how to obtain student feedback. It is designed to assist teacher trainers in raising awareness of feedback in trainees. Chapter I explores the concept of feedback and its development, and its meaning in education. The focus is on student feedback as the message students give about their learning. Chapter II analyzes ongoing and structured feedback as the main features of student feedback. The importance of feed­ back in raising students\u27 awareness of their learning process is also stressed. Further, the characteristics a teacher needs in order to work with feedback from the students are considered. Chapter III gives a brief presentation of the context in which the workshops are to be taught and the rationale for them. Chapter IV consists of a series of three workshops on structured feedback addressed to Italian teacher trainees. The workshops are respectively designed (1)to raise their awareness of structured feed­ back, (2) to have them experience how to work with questions in a structured feedback activity, (3) to propose other activities useful to get structured feedback

Extracting Usage Patterns and the Analysis of Tag Connection Dynamics within Collaborative Tagging Systems

Collaborative tagging has become a very popular way of annotation, thanks to the fact that any entity may be labeled by any individual based on his own reason. In this paper we present the results of the case study carried out on the basis of data gathered at different time intervals from the social tagging system developed and implemented on Întelepciune.ro. Analyzing collective data referring to the way in which community members associate different tags, we have observed that between tags, links are formed which become increasingly stable with the passing of time. Following the application of methodology specific to network analysis, we have managed to extract information referring to tag popularity, their influence within the network and the degree to which a tag depends upon another. As such, we have succeeded in determining different semantic structures within the collective tagging system and see their evolution at different stages in time. Furthermore, we have pictured the way in which tag rec-ommendations can be executed and that they can be integrated within recommendation sys-tems. Thus, we will be able to identify experts and trustworthy content based on different cat-egories of interest

Adapting In-Game Agent Behavior by Observation of Players Using Learning Behavior Trees

In this paper we describe Learning Behavior Trees, an extension of the popular game AI scripting technique. Behavior Trees provide an effective way for expert designers to describe complex, in-game agent behaviors. Scripted AI captures human intuition about the structure of behavioral decisions, but suffers from brittleness and lack of the natural variation seen in human players. Learning Behavior Trees are designed by a human designer, but then are trained by observation of players performing the same role, to introduce human-like variation to the decision structure. We show that, using this model, a single hand-designed Behavior Tree can cover a wide variety of player behavior variations in a simplified Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game

Are social support and coping styles differently associated with adjustment to cancer in early and advanced stages?

Background: Many people experience cancer as a chronic disease followed by adaptation to a new reality. Adjustment to cancer is a continuous process that follows the progression of the disease. Aims: We aimed to support the claim that patients in different stages of cancer develop different adjustment patterns, and that the stage of the disease modifies the interrelationships among social support, coping styles, and quality of life. We also hypothesized that greater perceived social support influence more adaptive coping strategies, which mediate the relationship between social support and adjustment, differently in the early and advanced stage of cancer. Methods. One-hundred-two consecutive cancer patients were recruited. Measures. We administered the Social Provision Scale, the Mini-Mental Adjustment to Cancer, the Brief-COPE, and the SF-12 health survey. Results. No differences emerged in adjustment to cancer, coping relate variables and quality of life between stage III and stage IV patients. Subsequent analyses revealed that the stage of the disease moderated the relationships between fatalism and fighting spirit and those between physical health and both avoidance and problem-solving. Regardless of the stage of illness, positive thinking mediated between social support and fighting spirit. Conclusion. Although the average adjustment pattern was the same for early-stage and advanced patients, adjustment processes were different according to cancer stage. The results confirm that social support and disease stage are important for adjustment to cancer. Favouring acceptance, positive reframing, and humour, social support helped patients to be more determined in fighting the disease and contrasted helpless-hopelessness and anxious preoccupation
