”Der er langt til Himlen og Evropa er langt borte”. Den afrikanske diskurs i dansk rejselitteratur

The article attempts to discuss two examples of Danish literary discourse on former Danish colonies on the Gold Coast (Africa). Sophie Petersen’s travel books “Danmarks gamle Tropekolonier”, 1946 (The former Danish Tropic Colonies) and “Vore gamle Tropekolonier”, 1948 (Our former Tropic Colonies) and Thorkild Hansen’s documentary novel “Slavernes Kyst”, 1967 (The Coast of the Slaves) have been analyzed as texts that reveal a part of the Danish colonial and postcolonial (self-)reflection and consciousness. The literary representations of Africa given in the aforementioned books reflect the Danish nation-building project in the respective historical, political and mental contexts (during the Second World War and in the sixties). Petersen and Hansen apply different writing strategies (rhetorical as well as discursive) in their presentations of the Danish history of the Gold Coast, and they seem to represent rather dissimilar approaches to this topic. As a conclusion, the author of the article attempts to answer the question about the role of the African representations in the Danish self-understanding as a nation

The objective of this study was to carry out a performance analysis of the following database systems: MySQL, PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server. For this purpose scripts were used to measure execution times of selecting, updating and inserting data. Furthermore, three data sets were utilized consisting of 100, 1000 and 10000 rows. The experiment included nine cases depending on the query type and the data set. For each case, thirty five test trials were conducted while first five trials were ignored i.a. because of cache storage. The statistical test was performed for the results and the trials in which the DBMS achieved best times were counted. For each case best systems were acknowledged and the most efficient system of the experiment was determined along with systems for each operation type

    Blogs : open-source diaries

Weblogs, or blogs, are Web sites maintained by one person or a few select people, are usually about one distinct subject, are constantly updated, and attract repeat visitors. This form has become a popular means of self-expression because it empowers both the writer and the audience. Blogs empower writers by providing them with an easy way to self-publish their points-of-view to a wide audience. Blogs empower the audience when the writer either provides informative hyperlinks and references that the audience can use to verify the writer\u27s claims or allows the audience to append their own text to the blog that could refute the writer\u27s claims. When the blogger provides links to her sources and encourages her readers to challenge her arguments in much the same way as academic or scientific authors do, her blog feels more authentic. To understand how blogs empower people, a useful comparison can be made between blogs and traditional autobiographical writing, as well as the collaborative environment of the open source movement
