A framework for the classification and prioritization of arrival and departure routes in Multi-Airport Systems Terminal Manoeuvring Areas

All right reserved.Typically major cities (London, New York, Tokyo) are served by several airports effectively creating a Multi-Airport System or Metroplex. The operations of the Metroplex airports are highly dependent on one another, which renders their efficient management difficult. This paper proposes a framework for the prioritization of arrival and departure routes in Multi-Airport Systems Terminal Manoeuvring Areas. The framework consists of three components. The first component presents a new procedure for clustering arrival and departure flights into dynamic routes based on their temporal and spatial distributions through the identification of the important traffic flow patterns throughout the day of operations. The second component is a novel Analytic Hierarchy Process model for the prioritization of the dynamic routes, accounting for a set of quantitative and qualitative characteristics important for Multi-Airport Systems operations. The third component is a priority-based model for the facility location of the optimal terminal waypoints (fixes), which accounts for the derived priorities of each dynamic route, while meeting the required separation distances. The proposed Analytic Hierarchy Process model characteristics are validated by subject matter experts. The developed framework is applied to the London Metroplex case study

When consumers switch product form: A cross-country study between UK, Brazil and China

This study is a cross-cultural comparison of product form switching in FMCG; to understand the adoption of new products within emerging markets. Brazil and China represent the emergent markets, whilst the UK provides comparison as a developed market. Laundry detergent is the chosen category of study as it is an FMCG but with complex habits, emotions, considerations and touchpoints impacting the final decision making process. Data were collated through 139 focus groups across the UK, Brazil and China and analysed using journey mapping techniques. The results of the consumer journeys demonstrate that FMCG product switching is a complex multifaceted process

Fotografía vernácula: hacia una definición sintética y elemental

La presente investigación busca responder, a través de una indagación biblio y hemerográfica, la pregunta por cómo ofrecer una definición sintética y elemental de fotografía vernácula, que incluya los elementos comunes presentados en conceptos emanados de autores especializados, galerías y museos interesados por este género iconográfico. Para responder esta pregunta se analizaron 25 definiciones de fotografía vernácula y se escogieron finalmente 13, correspondientes a los últimos diez años, dadas por académicos de reconocido prestigio interesados en este género, como Geoffrey Batchen y Clément Chéroux, o instituciones con acervos de fotografía vernácula, como el Museo de Arte Moderno de Nueva York o las Swann Galleries. El estudio de las definiciones ha permitido encontrar elementos convergentes y divergentes para poder proponer un concepto definitorio e integrador. En las conclusiones se ponen de relieve los retos que implica encontrar una definición sintética y elemental para la fotografía vernácula
