Heteroclinic orbits and transport in a perturbed integrable Suris map
Explicit formulae are given for the saddle connection of an integrable family
of standard maps studied by Y. Suris. When the map is perturbed this connection
is destroyed, and we use a discrete version of Melnikov's method to give an
explicit formula for the first order approximation of the area of the lobes of
the resultant turnstile. These results are compared with computations of the
lobe area.Comment: laTex file with 6 eps figure
A hybrid sampler for Poisson-Kingman mixture models
This paper concerns the introduction of a new Markov Chain Monte Carlo scheme
for posterior sampling in Bayesian nonparametric mixture models with priors
that belong to the general Poisson-Kingman class. We present a novel compact
way of representing the infinite dimensional component of the model such that
while explicitly representing this infinite component it has less memory and
storage requirements than previous MCMC schemes. We describe comparative
simulation results demonstrating the efficacy of the proposed MCMC algorithm
against existing marginal and conditional MCMC samplers
Mechanistic and Reactivity Studies of Iron Complexes Supported by CNC-Pincer Ligand
Ammonia production is a process that is integral to a variety of industries ranging from agriculture, textiles, and pesticide production. The Haber-Bosch process has supplied the global demand for ammonia since the beginning of the 20th century, but presents the issue of being incredibly energetically costly. The catalytic reduction of ambient atmospheric dinitrogen is a potential solution to the issue presented by the Haber-Bosch process and through the use of organometallic compounds inspired by the bacterial family of nitrogenases, there is potential for much more energy efficient production of ammonia. A series of iron complexes bearing CNC-pincer ligands have previously been synthesized in this lab and have shown the potential to catalytically reduce dinitrogen to ammonia. Computational analysis was used to further elucidate the mechanistic conversion of complex 1 to complex 2. Further, complexes 7 and 8 were probed by running a series of reactions to better study N2 as a labile ligand

Perceptions of an emerging family drug court program among child welfare and family drug court professional in Riverside County
This study examined the perceptions of child welfare and family drug court professionals regarding the emerging family drug court program in Riverside County. The following were addressed: what are the strengths of the program, what are challenges or barriers in the program, how do others not involved in the program feel about the program, how the need for the program was recognized, and how child welfare professionals view the future of the program
7th and 8th Grade Washington State Visual Arts Curriculum
The purpose of this project was to develop a 7th and 8th grade art education curriculum that is grade appropriate and reflective of state and national goals and standards. The National Art Standards and Washington State Standards were reviewed and applied to design an effective curriculum with standards and goals. Art education has experienced major changes in approach to curriculum and instruction due to educational accountability and recently increased educational reforms
Increasing Awareness Amongst Injured Student-Athletes
The NCAA states that there are around half a million college student athletes in America, and according to the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (2020) ninety percent of them will have a sports related injury some time in their career. Student-athletes compared to non-athletes are less likely to utilize resources and professional assistance (Moulton, Molstad, & Turner 1997). Due to fear of seeming weak, losing training time, judgement from peers or coaches and the appearance of needing any psychological assistance, many athletes are less likely to seek help (Brooks & Bull, 1999). Student Athletes seem to worsen their academic performance as well as their athletic performance once they come back from an injury. Also, poor mental health has been correlated with engaging in risky behaviors including suicide, depression, and many other risk factors (Anchuri, Davoren, Shanahan, Torres, Wilcox, 2020). Accepting that an injury is always possible is key for the health of a team and an individual
