"The Guacherna: Funny Dolls": A closer look at emotional design from the cultural implications involved in an object.

This Project was inspired from the Barranquilla Carnival, a party held in Colombia and considered a symbol of our culture. This essay shows the development of the design on the proposal concept: ā€œThe Guacherna [1]: Funny Dollsā€. It starts with a brief explanation of the meaning of the Carnival, and how it is transferred to the emotional feeling that the dolls produce. The purpose is to show the scope of the objects and how they are not only attractive for their universally-determined esthetics, but also an answer to cultural references. Thus, the object, designed based on the traditions, becomes an emotional design exercise that proves the role of memory, tradition, and identity in the relationship with the created objects

Reconstitution of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-specific T cell responses with treatment of human immunodeficiency virus/HBV coinfection

Liver-related mortality is an increasing problem in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/hepatitis B virus (HBV)-coinfected patients receiving highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). In HIV-negative patients, HBV chronicity is associated with a reduction in specific T cell responses that can be partially restored by treatment with lamivudine. We studied 5 HIV/HBV-coinfected patients treated with HAART, either with or without addition of a drug with specific anti-HBV activity. Our data show that reconstitution of some HBV-specific T cell responses can also occur in HIV-positive patients after a reduction in HBV load. This potential to recover T cell responses, which has been thought to be critical for HBV control, provides support for the addition of anti-HBV therapy in the treatment of HIV/HBV-coinfected patients

    G-Compactness and Groups

Lascar described E_KP as a composition of E_L and the topological closure of EL. We generalize this result to some other pairs of equivalence relations. Motivated by an attempt to construct a new example of a non-G-compact theory, we consider the following example. Assume G is a group definable in a structure M. We define a structure M_0 consisting of M and X as two sorts, where X is an affine copy of G and in M_0 we have the structure of M and the action of G on X. We prove that the Lascar group of M_0 is a semi-direct product of the Lascar group of M and G/G_L. We discuss the relationship between G-compactness of M and M_0. This example may yield new examples of non-G-compact theories.Comment: 18 page
