A Part-of-Speech Tagset for Morphosyntactic Tagging of Amharic

The aim of the article is to propose a tagset for the morposyntactic tagging of Amharic and to discuss those issues which may seem problematic. The tagset contains forty-seven tags grouped into twelve parts of speech. It is hoped that it provides a starting point for more exhaustive guidelines for prospective annotators

VERBAL CONTESTS – THE AMAHARA’S TRADITIONAL MODE OF LITIGATION

Głównym celem tego artykułu jest przedstawienie tradycyjnego sposobu procesowania się w społeczeństwie Amharów, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem jego dyskursywnego i antropocentrycznego wymiaru. Etiopskie rodzime prawo postępowania karnego i cywilnego, przekazywane ustnie z pokolenia na pokolenie, przestało obowiązywać w 1936 roku. Dlatego obecnie możemy polegać jedynie na skąpych danych uzyskanych od starszyzny i następnie zapisanych. Materiał omawiany w tym artykule został zaczerpnięty w głównej mierze z dwóch książek: autorstwa Ńibäńi Lämmy (po amharsku) oraz An Introduction to the Legal History of Ethiopia, 1434–1974 napisanej przez Aberrę Jambere. Podejściem badawczym, które posłużyło do jego zinterpretowania jest oralność rozumiana tutaj jako „autonomiczny typ egzystencji‖ (Roch Sulima) oraz typ komunikacji. Jeśli chodzi o ten drugi wymiar oralności, wzięto pod uwagę jego następujące cechy: język jako działanie, formuły i stereotypy, agonistyczność interakcji, zaangażowanie w relacje międzyludzkie oraz somatyczność. W artykule przytoczono oraz omówiono kilkanaście utworów poetyckich i dialogów, przeplatanych zagadkami oraz przysłowiami. Celem tego jest dogłębniejsze zrozumienie pojęcia sprawiedliwości wśród Amharów, a także innych składników ich kultury.The main thrust of this paper is to present the Amhara‘s traditional mode of litigation with the commitment to address its discursive and anthropocentric dimensions. The indigenous procedural law transmitted orally from generation to generation ceased to be used in 1936. As a result, at present, we can merely rely on scanty illustrative material elicited from memory of the elders and then recorded. The material discussed in this paper has been adduced primarily from two books: Tät,äyyäq by Ńibäńi Lämma (in Amharic) and An Introduction to the Legal History of Ethiopia, 1434 – 1974. It is analysed within the framework of orality which is considered here as ―an autonomous type of existence‖ (Roch Sulima) as well as a type of communication. In regard to the latter dimension of orality, in the course of the paper, the following features are taken into account: (i) language as a mode of action, (ii) formulaic expressions and stereotypes, (iii) agonistic manner of human interaction, (iv) commitment to human interactions (v) somaticism. The study of poetic compositions and dialogs interwoven with riddles and proverbs aims also at providing insights into the Amhara concept of justice as well as other components of their culture

In the case where X is a manifold and g is an immersion it is the intersection number defined by Whitney. In the case where g is a polynomial mapping, we present an effective formula for this number
