The Skylab Parasol
An alternate thermal protection system for the Skylab space station cluster was deemed necessary shortly after launch when severe damage occured to the orbital workshop as it passed through the period of maximum dynamic pressure. Data indicated that the combination micrometeoroid and thermal shield on the sun facing side of the vehicle had been destroyed. The simultaneous design, fabrication, and test of the Skylab Parasol System which was completed in 6 days of around-the-clock effort is described. The Skylab Parasol design was selected as the primary sunshade device based on simplicity of design, ability to fabricate quickly, and early demonstration of a working prototype which featured semiautomatic deployment from within the workshop under shirt sleeve environment conditions
Structural members, method and apparatus
A method and apparatus for fabricating a structural member such as truss from flexible sheet material in compacted form are disclosed. A number of generally tubular columns are progressively formed from the sheet material and deployed generally parallel to one another. Adjacent pairs of the columns are interconnected by respective side members, each of which is comprised of a strip of the sheet material. The sheet material is fastened together by self-attaching fasteners integrally formed from the sheet material of the columns and side members themselves
Method for reinforcing tubing joints
Joint repair technique uses a longitudinally split aluminum shield over the joint ferrule and immediately adjacent tubing to reseal or reinforce leaking or weak joints in small tubing. Epoxy resin coating on inside surfaces of the two shield halves provides a tightly sealed bond between shield and tubing
Surface finishing
A surface of an article adapted for relative motion with a fluid environment is finished by coating the surface with a fluid adhesive. The adhesive is covered with a sheet of flexible film material under tension, and the adhesive is set while maintaining tension on the film material
A Comparison of Techniques for Sampling Web Pages
As the World Wide Web is growing rapidly, it is getting increasingly
challenging to gather representative information about it. Instead of crawling
the web exhaustively one has to resort to other techniques like sampling to
determine the properties of the web. A uniform random sample of the web would
be useful to determine the percentage of web pages in a specific language, on a
topic or in a top level domain. Unfortunately, no approach has been shown to
sample the web pages in an unbiased way. Three promising web sampling
algorithms are based on random walks. They each have been evaluated
individually, but making a comparison on different data sets is not possible.
We directly compare these algorithms in this paper. We performed three random
walks on the web under the same conditions and analyzed their outcomes in
detail. We discuss the strengths and the weaknesses of each algorithm and
propose improvements based on experimental results

Efficacy of early literacy intervention project for early literacy development in family child care homes
This project focused on the concept that family childcare providers who completed Building Literacy Bridges intervention project, which included interactive early literacy classes on phonological and print awareness, dialogic and shared reading skills, as well as providing a literacy rich environment, would implement those concepts into their daily care with children. Nine family childcare providers completed the four-hour per week, four-week intervention project
Surface finishing
A surface of an article adapted for relative motion with a fluid environment is finished by coating the surface with a fluid adhesive, covering the adhesive with a sheet of flexible film material under tension on the film material whereby the tensioned film material is bonded to the surface by the adhesive
Teaching Regional Anesthesia to Nurse Anesthesia Students
Teaching regional anesthesia to students who have no experience is a difficult task because there is no common frame of reference, and there are many variables to the provision of this specialized care. The purpose of this independent study was to review three of the most commonly performed blocks then prepare and deliver lessons to nurse anesthesia students which will promote their confidence and competency as anesthesia providers
The method used was a review of literature utilizing PubMed, Cl NAHL, and SCOPUS databases. Current thought on preparing students for learning and performing regional methods was organized according to Malcolm Knowles\u27 Adult Learning Theory and Andragogical Model. The principles of regional anesthesia were presented in lecture and power point format, accompanied by video review of anatomy, and then reviewed with demonstration in human anatomy lab on cadavers. The students participated in the demonstration by applying the regional principles on the cadavers to assimilate learned theory and grow in practical applicatio
Plastic covering on airfoil structure provides smooth uninterrupted surface
Primed surface is covered with adhesive. Sheet of plastic film is stretched over adhesive and mechanical holder is used to apply tension to ends of sheet to make it conform to surface of airfoil. After adhesive cures, plastic can be trimmed with sharp cutting tool
Argentina spectral-agronomic multitemporal data set
A multitemporal LANDSAT spectral data set was created. The data set is over five 5 nm-by-6 nm areas over Argentina and contains by field, the spectral data, vegetation type and cloud cover information
