A new Proposal for a Quasielectron Trial Wavefunction for the FQHE on a Disk

In this letter, we propose a new quasielectron trial wavefunction for $N$ interacting electrons in two dimensions moving in a strong magnetic field in a disk geometry. Requiring that the trial wavefunction exhibits the correct filling factor of a quasielectron wavefunction, we obtain $N+1$ angular momentum eigenfunctions. The expectation values of the energy are calculated and compared with the data of an exact numerical diagonalization.Comment: 8 page

Extrinsic Curvature Embedding Diagrams

Embedding diagrams have been used extensively to visualize the properties of curved space in Relativity. We introduce a new kind of embedding diagram based on the {\it extrinsic} curvature (instead of the intrinsic curvature). Such an extrinsic curvature embedding diagram, when used together with the usual kind of intrinsic curvature embedding diagram, carries the information of how a surface is {\it embedded} in the higher dimensional curved space. Incorporating Language Models into Non-autoregressive Neural Machine Translation

V této práci navrhujeme způsob pro zlepšení plynulosti výstupu neautoregresivního modelu pro neuronový strojový překlad. Využíváme k tomu rozšířený model pro počítání skóre během paprskového prohledávání. Skóre vypočítáváme jako lineární kombinaci dílčích skóre pocházejících z n-gramového jazykového modelu a dalších pomocných příznaků. Váhy pro lineární kombinaci určujeme pomocí strukturovaného perceptronu. Pro vyhodnocení rychlosti a kvality překladu trénujeme modely pro tři dvojice jazyků. Výsledky ukazují, že modely s navrženým vylepšením jsou stále dostatečně efektivní z hlediska rychlosti a zároveň dosahují výsledků srovnatelných s autoregresivními modely.In order to improve the fluency of a non-autoregressive model for neural machine translation, we propose an extension for the scoring model used during the beam search decoding. We compute the score as a linear combination of feature values, including the score from an n-gram language model and other auxiliary features. We determine the weights of the features using the structured perceptron algorithm. We train the models for three language pairs and evaluate their decoding speed and translation quality. The results show that our proposed models are still efficient in terms of decoding speed while achieving a competitive score relative to autoregressive models

On the Significance of the Concept of Memory Culture in Urban Studies (A Case Study of Vilnius)

This article aims to present the possibilities offered to urban studies by the concept of memory culture. The case study discussed is that of Vilnius in the 1990–2018 period. The definition put forward by C. Cornelißen, for whom memory culture is “the formal generic term for all possible forms of conscious human memory of historical events, personages and processes”, inspired the creation of a research model encompassing: the multilingual urban discourse of Vilnius (analysis of texts), interviews with representatives of the official and alternative discourses of Vilnius’ memory (analysis of oral histories), and spatial representations of the past (analysis of carriers of memory). This diversified corpus of sources will allow for as comprehensive as possible a description of the phenomenon that is present-day Vilnius’ memory culture; it will also extend the boundaries of research towards true interdisciplinarity.Apie atminties kultūros sampratos reikšmę miesto tyrimams (Vilniaus atvejo analizė)Šio straipsnio tikslas – pristatyti galimybes, kurias teikia atminties kultūros sąvoka tiriant miesto atmintį. Third Time’s the Charm: Remedying the Lack of Uniformity and Predictability in Trade Secret Law

The current legal framework governing trade secrets in the United States lacks the uniformity and predictability necessary to protect businesses. As a result, trade secret litigation has been on the rise over the course of the last decade. Whilst remote work becomes more ubiquitous, even beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, litigation will continue to increase as businesses are forced to entrust confidential information with remote workers. This note examines the current US trade secret scheme, exposes the current framework’s deficiencies, and suggests a “trade secret formalities model” to make for a more organized and efficient doctrine of law. More specifically, this note analyzes (1) the use of formalities in Russia’s current trade secret regime, and (2) the impact of the formalities system used in traditional US copyright law. Thick atomic layers of maximum density as bulk terminations of quasicrystals

The clean surfaces of quasicrystals, orthogonal to the directions of the main symmetry axes, have a terrace-like appearance.
