Az alábbi fejezetben a társadalmi kirekesztődés egyes területi- és etnikai aspektusait vizsgálom. Amellett érvelek, hogy a lehetőségek és erőforrások egyenlőtlen térbeli eloszlása jelentős szerepet játszik abban, hogy jól körülhatárolható társadalmi csoportok tartósan kiszorulnak a 21. századi Európában élők többsége számára adott megélhetési lehetőségekből. Bemutatom azt is, hogy a területi egyenlőtlenségek szorosan összekapcsolódnak az etnikai alapú kirekesztődéssel

Social cohesion and trust in local communities in Hungary

This paper summarizes the first results of the analysis of a questionnaire survey on the determinants of social cohesion and interethnic relations in Hungarian local communities. The survey was carried out in villages and small towns in four different regions of the country in 2012. Our results show that the socioeconomic status and geo-cultural background of the local community significantly shape social cohesion and interethnic trust. Migration rate, on the other hand, plays a surprisingly minor role in shaping trust and cohesion. The effect of fractionalization is moderate, and, interestingly, mainly positive if national minorities are present in the local community

Ethnic Stereotypes and Preferences on Poverty Assistance

The authors introduce a simple model of public preferences on poverty assistance. Their focus is on the roles played by the socioeconomic status of a potential welfare recipient and the stereotypes about his/her ethnic group in shaping taxpayers’ preferences on appropriate assistance. The model assumes that status not only informs one about the recipient’s material needs but also sends noisy signals about his/her 'deservingness'. Ethnic stereotypes about work ethic, in turn, help to process those noisy signals. The authors show that the influence of stereotypes on welfare preferences tends to diminish as the status of a potential recipient approaches middle-class standards. Their model points to the potential of institutional and media framing of poverty assistance in the ethnicization of welfare preferences

Választójog és intergenerációs igazságosság:

Tanulmányunkban a fiatalok nagyobb politikai súlyát biztosító választójogi reformok lehetőségeit vizsgáljuk a téma keretezését manipuláló survey-kísérlet segítségével. Kutatásunk kiinduló feltevése szerint az elit diskurzus torzításai következtében a választópolgárok nem érzékelik az állami újraelosztás intergenerációs egyenlőtlenségeit, és emiatt nem gondolják, hogy az egyenlőtlenségek fenntartását segítő, a felnőttek egyenlő választójogán nyugvó rendszereken változtatni kéne. Elemzésünk áttekinti az intergenerációs igazságosság növelését célzó választójogi törekvéseket, és bemutatja az ezerfős online lakossági mintán végzett felmérésünk eredményeit. A survey-kísérlet adatai azt mutatják, hogy a generációk közötti újraelosztás szempontjainak felvetése érdemben növeli a fiatalabb korosztályok érzékenységét a fiatalok politikai jogai iránt, de nem csökkenti a reformok erős elutasítottságát a középkorúak és idősek körében

The design of an ultra-low sidelobe offset-fed 1.22m antenna for use in the broadcasting satellite service

A feed design and reflector geometry were determined for an ultra low sidelobe offset fed 1.22 meter antenna suitable for use in the 12 GHz broadcasting satellite service. Arbitrary constraints used to evaluate the relative merits of the feed horns and range of f/D geometries are: minimum efficiency of 55 percent, -30 dB first sidelobe level (relative to on axis gain), a 0 dBi plateau beyond the near in sidelobe region, and a Chebyshev polynomial based envelope (borrowed from filter theory) for the region from the -3 dB beamwidth points to the 0 dBi plateau region. This envelope is extremely stringent but the results of this research effort indicate that two steps of corrugated feed and a cluster array of small 1 lambda horns do meet the constraints. A set of performance specifications and a mechanical design suitable for a consumer oriented market in the broadcasting satellite service was developed.
