Poverty and Social Exclusion of People with Mental Illnesses

Mental illnesses are one of the biggest public health challenges in the European region, according to prevalence, the cost of treatment and rehabilitation, and the disability they cause. The stigma associated with poverty and mental illness triggers and maintains a vicious circle of poverty and mental illness, and poverty and stigma thus increase the victimization. Therefore, the aim of this paper was to problematize some indicators of poverty and social exclusion for people with mental illnesses and mental health policy which main task is to care about the position of people with mental illnesses locally and globally. Poverty of people with mental illnesses is reflected not only through their insufficient participation in the labor market and insufficient material resources, but also through access to formal and informal sources of health and social support, where lack of support results in social exclusion. In conclusion, we wrote about the importance of mental health policy,which is recognized as a broad multi-sectoral policy that “runs” the topic of mental health quality through almost all public departments of a country

Challenges of the Social Workers in the Field of Discharge Planning and Promotion of Patients’ Right to Self-Determination - a Case Report

The aim of this paper was to show the challenges of the social worker in the Clinical Hospital Centre Rijeka in the process of planned discharge and at the same time promoting the right to self-determination of an elderly patient with impaired functioning who has no close family members. The paper presents the tasks of a social worker in the pro- cess of planned discharge, which range from targeted and short analyzes of specific needs, to comprehensive psychosocial assessments and risk assessments of a whole range of social and psychological needs, strengths and stressors. The challenges that were imposed and ultimately overcome were the patient’s lack of social support, different perceptions of the problem and insufficiently transparent communication between stakeholders, the patient’s weakened social capital and physical disability. Therefore, the presentation of the case shows the importance of direct mutual communication of all the mentioned stakeholders, timely exchange and transparency of information. Although, the primary and most important thing is to respect the voice of the patient and enable him to shape the vision of his future life, in accordance with the resources available to him

Knowledge, Attitudes and Behaviors of Young People Related to Drinking and Driving in Mostar Region, Bosnia and Herzegovina

The traffic accidents became the leading cause of morbidity and mortality among young population groups during the late 60s and early 70s. Among several European countries that are in transition, Bosnia and Herzegovina takes the leading place in fatal traffic accidents. In this study we have investigated knowledge, attitudes and behavior of young people related to alcohol impaired driving. Our aim was to investigate the patterns and behavior among young people that could be useful for public health intervention among them. This is of special interest as there is a lack of such information from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The study was performed in the city of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The study included 189 examinees of both genders, aged between 18 and 24 years, who have been divided in two groups: students of the University of Mostar and those who did not go for further education after high school (nonstudents). Sampling was performed in July 2006 in Mostar and surrounding area. The Gallup organization questionnaire was used. Descriptive statistic test and chi-square were used in statistical analysis. Result of this study could be helpful in taking preventive measures for lowering number of traffic accidents among young people or they could be base in some protective programs for increasing traffic safety

Statička i dinamička naliza vratila s dva diska

Ovaj rad se bavi statičkom i dinamičkom analizom vratila s dva diska ukliještenog na oba kraja. Treba provesti analizu vibracija i čvrstoće vratila. Analiza obuhvaća određivanje prirodnih frekvencija i oblika vibriranja u slučaju slobodnih vibracija, određivanje odgovarajućih odziva kod djelovanja zadane uzbude u slučaju prisilnih vibracija, provjeru čvrstoće vratila na savijanje i uvijanje kod djelovanja odgovarajućih inercijskih sila i momenata. Za proračun fleksijkih vibracija koristit će se metoda utjecajnih koeficijenata, a za proračun torzijskih vibracija metoda diskretnog sustava s dva stupnja slobode gibanja. Provjera rezultata proračuna slobodnih vibracija provest će se metodom jednolike grede. Provjera čvrsoće vratila na savijanje i uvijanje će se provesti metodom konačnih elemenata

Learning and applying model-based visual context

I specifically examine the role of context in vision and how a model-based approach can aid visual search and recognition. Through the implementation of a system capable of learning visual context models from an image database, I demonstrate the utility of the model-based approach. Synthesis and characterization of novel acylsemicarbazide cinnamic acid-primaquine derivatives

Ovaj rad se nadovezuje na višegodišnja istraživanja provedena na Zavodu za farmaceutsku kemiju Farmaceutsko-biokemijskog fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zagrebu koja obuhvaćaju dizajniranje, sintezu i biološku evaluaciju derivata primakina s antiproliferativnim djelovanjem. Rezultati tih istraživanja, uz literaturne izvore o biološkim djelovanjima derivata cimetne kiseline, temelj su dizajna novih derivata primakina i cimetne kiseline kao potencijalnih citostatika. Cilj ovog rada bila je sinteza i karakterizacija šest novih acilsemikarbazidnih derivata primakina koji u svojoj strukturi sadrže derivate cimetne kiseline. Kao početni spoj u sintezi korišten je klorid 1-benzotriazolkarboksilne kiseline, BtcCl (1). Primakin je reakcijom s BtcCl preveden u primakinski benzotriazolid (2), a zatim pomoću hidrazina u primakinski semikarbazid (3). Derivati cimetne kiseline prevedeni su u kiselinske kloride 4a-f reakcijom s tionil-kloridom. Reakcijom primakinskog semikarbazida (3) s kloridom odgovarajućeg derivata cimetne kiseline 4a-f dobiveni su acilsemikarbazidni derivati 5a-f koji nisu do sad opisani u literaturi. Strukture svih sintetiziranih spojeva potvrđene su uobičajenim spektroskopskim metodama (IR, 1H i 13C NMR, MS). Čvrstim produktima određeno je talište. Sintetiziranim derivatima će u daljnjim istraživanjima biti ispitano biološko djelovanje.In the last few years, a research group at the Department of Medicinal Chemistry has focused on primaquine derivatization. This includes design, synthesis and biological evaluation of novel primaquine derivatives with antiproliferative activity. The purpose of this research was synthesis and characterization of six novel primaquine derivatives that include cinnamid acid derivatives (CADs) in their structure. The reaction of 1- benzotriazolecarboxylic acid chloride (BtcCl, 1) with primaquine (PQ) gave primaquine benzotriazolide (2). Primaquine semicarbazide (3) was prepared in the reaction of primaquine benzotriazolide (2) with hydrazine. Cinnamic acid derivatives (CAD) gave acyl chlorides 4a-f in the reaction with thyonil chloride. Final products, acylsemicarbazide CAD-PQ derivatives 5a-f were finally obtained in the reaction of primaquine semicarbazide (3) and corresponding acyl chlorides 4a-f. Structures of newly prepared primaquine derivatives were confirmed by IR, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and MS. Melting point of solid compounds were also determined. Antiproliferative activity of synthesized primaquine derivatives will be tested in further analysis
