Impact of Correlated Mobility on Delay-Throughput Performance in Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks

Abstract—We extend the analysis of the scaling laws of wireless ad hoc networks to the case of correlated nodes movements, which are commonly found in real mobility processes. We consider a simple version of the Reference Point Group Mobility model, in which nodes belonging to the same group are constrained to lie in a disc area, whose center moves uniformly across the network according to the i.i.d. model. We assume fast mobility conditions, and take as primary goal the maximization of pernode throughput. We discover that correlated node movements have huge impact on asymptotic throughput and delay, and can sometimes lead to better performance than the one achievable under independent nodes movements. I. INTRODUCTION AND RELATED WORK In the last few years the store-carry-forward communication paradigm, which allows nodes to physically carry buffered dat

How Much Can The Internet Be Greened?

Abstract—The power consumption of the Internet is becoming more and more a key issue, and several projects are studying how to reduce its energy consumption. In this paper, we provide a first evaluation of the amount of redundant resources (nodes and links) that can be powered off from a network topology to reduce power consumption. We first formulate a theoretical evaluation that exploits random graph theory to estimate the fraction of devices that can be removed from the topology still guaranteeing connectivity. Then we compare theoretical results with simulation results using realistic Internet topologies. Results, although preliminary, show that large energy savings can be achieved by accurately turning off nodes and links, e.g., during off-peak time. We show also that the non-cooperative design of the current Internet severely impacts the possible energy saving, suggesting that a cooperative approach can be investigated further. I

Lost and damaged luggage has always been an issue for millions of travelers. Of those millions of travel claims, what is the likelihood of being reimbursed for lost or damaged luggage? This research examined travel claims data reported to the Transportation Security Association (TSA) from the Department of Homeland Security. The data was used to measure how effective airlines, more specifically JetBlue and Delta, are at responding to and resolving customer claims. The goal of this research was to help travelers select an airline with a higher probability of solving their travel claims in the event their luggage does become lost or damaged

342— Urban vs Rural School Districts: How can we help our students succeed?

To establish my research, I will be comparing Dansville Central School District to Rochester City School District. I am intrigued to find out the policies between an urban school district versus a rural school district in the state of New York. In addition, I want to find out what government intervention has been done for both school districts. My target population is grades K-12 from Dansville Central School District and Rochester City School District. I will be examining the social welfare policies that are in both school districts. For instance, I will be reviewing the Free and Reduced Lunch program which is present in both districts. I want to learn more about graduation rates, percentage of students going to college, poverty rate in both areas. My main objective is to find out the role of government for rural and urban schools. My question is why is the government absent in rural areas? Why does the city school district receive more government funding and intervention? Overall, this topic is extremely important for everyone to know and be informed about. I believe most people forget about the rural school population in upstate New York because there are bigger issues happening in the city schools of Rochester
