How do Australian small and medium enterprises communicate their corporate social responsibility activities online?

Much of the existing research on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) focuses on large firms, with comparatively little on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The SME research focuses on barriers and drivers to CSR and neglects how SMEs communicate their CSR activities. This paper addresses this gap by reporting on a content analysis of 443 Australian SME websites which identifies how they are using this channel to communicate their CSR activities.<br /

The Importance Of (General) Didactics For Teaching And Learning In Virtual Spaces

Im vorliegenden Beitrag nehme ich die Frage auf, welcher Stellenwert der Allgemeinen Didaktik im Kontext von Lehren und Lernen in virtuellen Räumen zukommt. Dazu gehe ich zunächst von Präsenzsituationen aus und skizziere eine Vorstellung von entsprechenden Lehr- und Lernprozessen. Ein besonderes Augenmerk wird dabei auf die handlungs- und entwicklungsorientierte Gestaltung dieser Prozesse gerichtet. Ausgehend von der skizzierten Modellvorstellung, wird im nächsten Schritt diskutiert, welche Veränderungen und didaktischen Konsequenzen sich ergeben, wenn Lernprozesse nicht mehr in realen Räumen mit sozialer Präsenz stattfinden, sondern in der Auseinandersetzung mit virtuellen oder teilvirtuellen Angeboten. Abschließend werden die Überlegungen auf das Beispiel des Fernstudiengangs Medien (FESTUM) bezogen und Problemlagen und Perspektiven aus didaktischer Sicht diskutiert.In this article, I take up the question of the significance of general didactics in the context of teaching and learning in virtual spaces. To this end, I start with classroom situations and outline a conception of corresponding teaching and learning processes. Special attention will be paid to the action- and development-oriented design of these processes. Based on the outlined model conception, the next step discusses which changes and didactic consequences arise when learning processes no longer take place in real rooms with social presence, but in the confrontation with virtual or partially virtual offers. Finally, the considerations are related to the example of the distance learning programme in media (FESTUM) and problem situations and perspectives are discussed from a didactic point of view

Media education and informatics education – an interdisciplinary search for traces

Die Diskussion um das Verhältnis von Medienbildung und Informatischer Bildung, so die Argumentation im vorliegenden Beitrag, sollte von einem umfassenden Medienbegriff ausgehen, der bereits auf die Spezifika Digitaler Medien, insbesondere ihre technische Bedingtheit, hinweist. Zeichnet man den intradisziplinären Diskurs nach, so zeigt sich, dass die Medienpädagogik den Computer als ein neues Medium in der Entwicklung der Medienlandschaft quasi selbstverständlich in ihren disziplinären Gegenstand integriert hat, die Thematisierung informatischer Aspekte aber eher die Ausnahme bildet. Erst ein Blick auf stärker medienwissenschaftlich und informatisch ausgerichtete Arbeiten legt interdisziplinäre Aspekte offen, die von der Maschinenebene bis hin zur Interaktion mit Digitalen Medien eine durchgängige Beschreibung von Strukturen und Prozessen erlauben. Solche Aspekte repräsentieren zentrale bzw. fundamentale Ideen und Prinzipien, wie z. B. Semiotisierung, Formalisierung, Software oder Interaktivität. Die Frage, wie solche Ideen in den Bildungsdiskurs Eingang finden, sollte an die Debatte um Medienkompetenzmodelle und Standards anknüpfen. Die unterrichtliche Umsetzung einer umfassenden Medienbildung ist – vor dem Hintergrund der zentralen interdisziplinären Aspekte – auf eine explizite informatische Expertise angewiesen.The discussion about the relation between media education and informatics education should – so the argumentation in this article – start from a comprehensive media term, which already emphasizes the specific features of digital media. Portraying the intradisciplinary discourse it becomes apparent, that media education as a discipline has integrated the computer as a new medium as a matter of course, but that the thematization of aspects of informatics is rather the exceptional case. Just viewing such approaches being influenced by media studies or informatics reveal interdisciplinary aspects allowing a consistent description and illumination of structures and processes from the machine level through to the level of interaction with digital media. Such aspects represent fundamental ideas and principles like semiotization, formalization, software or interactivity. The question how interdisciplinary ideas find its way into the educational discourse should affiliate to the debate about models of media competences and standards. The instructional and educational implementation of a comprehensive media education depends – with regard to the central interdisciplinary aspects – on an explicit expertise in informatics

"Die mit den Zeichen tanzen": Ein Beitrag zum Verhältnis von Informationstechnischer Bildung und Medienerziehung

Die Diskussion um das Verhältnis von informationstechnischer Bildung und Medienerziehung ist zuweilen stärker von einem disziplinären denn von einem interdisziplinären Verständnis geprägt. Auf der Seite der Informatik herrscht die Befürchtung um eine Verwässerung ihrer Inhalte durch ‹Schmalfilmer›, auf der Seite der Medienpädagogik wird betont, dass eine Verkürzung von Medienkompetenz auf Anwenderfertigkeiten oder technisches Detailwissen zu kurz greift. Professionspolitisch ist es sicherlich angemessen, sich auf das Technische bzw. Informatische oder eben das Pädagogische zu konzentrieren, die Medienwelt selbst erfordert jedoch interdisziplinäre Zugänge. Um nicht Gefahr zu laufen, den Bildungswert einer Auseinandersetzung mit Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien nur auf Plausibilitätsniveau zu begründen, ist zunächst eine theoriebezogene Diskussion notwendig. Auf dieser Grundlage kann dann auch begründet über Zusammenführungen oder Abgrenzungen von und zwischen Informationstechnischer Bildung und Medienerziehung gesprochen werden. Der Beitrag entwirft eine solche Theoriebasis und bezieht diese auf mögliche Bildungswerte

Project Management in the German Trade Sector: A (Preliminary) Action Research Framework For The Introduction Of Computer Assisted Management Of Projects In Small And Medium Sized Enterprises

This paper describes an framework for the introduction of project management in the German trade sector, at a time when businesses are increasingly involved in inter-organisational activities, using an action research approach. The paper initially describes the project management issues particular to small and micro enterprises and explains why action research is conceptually the most appropriate research method for this project. The framework developed for the carrying out of this project is based on the necessary phases of the project and the resulting research cycles. Among the many questions raised, it is important to examine why project management has not been popular with this part of the production sector. Additionally we need to explore the special needs of the trade sector with its particular structure, the education of the employees, the size of the businesses, the manpower involved, typical projects and organisational issues

Orient/East-Med Corridor: Challenges and Demands for the Rail Network Policies

As rail represents an efficient and sustainable transport system, the Trans-European railway network has become subject to special attention from European transport policy. The political objectives are to shift 30% of freight to rail by 2030, 50% by 2050, and to reduce passenger trips on road and in the air. These make it necessary to develop the defined TEN-T core network rail corridors as a priority, which means eliminating bottlenecks along the corridors and increasing capacities and operation quality. This concerns the Orient/East-Med (OEM) Core Network Corridor as well. Considerable parts of the infrastructure of the railway network along the OEM Corridor is not compliant with some of the technical thresholds set out by EU-Regulation 1315/2013. In the meanwhile the EU and the affected states have established activities for extending the core network corridors to the Western Balkans states. In 2015, the European Commission adopted a Joint Statement of the Prime Ministers of six Western Balkans states (WB6), which contains a list of specified Core Network links and Priority Projects for the extension of the TEN-T network to the Western Balkans. During additional common summits of the EU and the WB6, an indicative extension network has been more and more concretized. To date the process has led to the establishment of a common EU-Western Balkans Transport Community signed in 2017, which aims to help WB6 countries integrate into the EU by creating closer transport ties or connections. A continuing aspect is the importance of the OEM Corridor for the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative as a hinterland connection between the sea port of Piraeus (GR) and the central and eastern European countries.Als effizienter und nachhaltiger Verkehrsträger hat die Schiene auch in der europäischen Verkehrspolitik und somit auch im transeuropäischen Eisenbahnnetz besondere Aufmerksamkeit bekommen. So sind als verkehrspolitische Ziele die Verlagerung von 30% des Güterverkehrs auf die Schiene bis 2030, von 50% bis 2050 und die Reduzierung des Personentransportes auf der Straße und in der Luft formuliert. Diese Ziele erfordern die vorrangige Entwicklung definierter TEN-V-Kernnetz-Eisenbahnkorridore. Dies umfasst die Beseitigung von Engpässen entlang der Korridore, sowie die Steigerung von Kapazitäten und Betriebsqualitäten. Dies betrifft auch den Orient/ East-Med (OEM) Core Network Corridor. Große Teile der Infrastruktur des Eisenbahnnetzes entlang des OEM Corridors entsprechen nicht den technischen Standards der EU-Verordnung 1315/2013. Mittlerweile haben die EU und die betroffenen Staaten Maßnahmen zur Ausweitung der Kernnetzkorridore auf die Westbalkanstaaten eingeleitet. Im Jahr 2015 verabschiedete die Europäische Kommission eine Gemeinsame Erklärung der Premierminister von sechs Westbalkanstaaten (WB6), die eine Liste spezifischer Kernnetzwerkverbindungen und prioritärer Projekte für die Ausdehnung des TEN-V-Netzes auf den Westbalkan beinhaltet. Bei weiteren gemeinsamen Gipfeltreffen der EU und der WB6 wurde ein indikatives Erweiterungsnetz zunehmend konkreter. Dieser Prozess hat bisher zur Gründung einer gemeinsamen Verkehrsgemeinschaft EU-Westbalkan geführt, die 2017 unterzeichnet wurde und darauf abzielt, die Integration der WB6-Länder in die EU durch engere Verkehrsbeziehungen oder -verbindungen zu unterstützen. Ein weiterer Aspekt ist die Bedeutung des OEM Corridors für die Chinese Belt and Road Initiative als Hinterlandverbindung zwischen dem Seehafen Piräus (GR) und den mittel- und osteuropäischen Ländern

Mobile Project Management: introducing personal digital assistants to support project steering and controlling in trade

This paper describes the introduction of a novel system to steer and control projects in small and medium sized enterprises in the German trade sector. These businesses are facing increasing competition and need to find innovative ways to organise processes more professionally. Trade businesses usually plan projects accurately, but once a project has started, the plan does not necessarily reflect the changes that occur in real life. Reporting is usually done on paper with insufficient processing time and therefore problems can not be taken care of in an adequate fashion. The introduction of PDAs to those businesses as mobile devices for steering and controlling proves to make these processes more efficient. Therefore we explore relevant business processes in the building trade, the singular properties of PDAs and related software developing issues as well as introducing our project steering and controlling system
