Influence of Immersed Conductive Objects on the Burning Behavior of Oil Soaked Sands

    Get PDF
The objective of this study is to characterize the flammability of oil-soaked sand towards the development of technology to clean up petroleum product spills using in situ combustion. The burning rate of a sand-oil mixture is enhanced using immersed conductive objects (copper rods) which enable rapid heat-up of the flame exposed to the upper surface of the rod and transmits heat back into the sand. Consequent conduction of heat to the porous media through the lower portion of the immersed rod significantly increases vaporization and therefore the burning rate. Bench scale experiments (10cm) were performed with increasing spill content (18% and 24%) exposed to external heat fluxes (15, 20, 25 and 30kW/m^2 ) and different rod configurations (single rod, multiple rods and cases with various heights and diameters). Flammability parameters such as ignition time, mass loss rate, and temperature profiles were investigated. Experiments show that the ignition time decreases and the burn efficiency rate increases with the addition of immersed objects. A numerical model is used to further explain the controlling parameters for enhancement in burning rate and optimization of the technique

Data Impact Analysis in Business Processes

Business processes and their outcomes rely on data whose values are changed during process execution. When unexpected changes occur, e.g., due to last minute changes of circumstances, human errors, or corrections of detected errors in data values, this may have consequences for various parts of the process. This challenges the process participants to understand the full impact of the changes and decide on responses or corrective actions. To tackle this challenge, the paper suggests a semi-automated approach for data impact analysis. The approach entails a trans-formation of business process models to a relational database representation, to which querying is applied, in order to retrieve process elements that are related to a given data change. Specifically, the proposed method receives a data item (an attribute or an object) and information about the current state of process execution (in the form of a trace upon which an unexpected change has occurred). It analyzes the impact of the change in terms of activities, other data items, and gateways that are affected. When evaluating the usefulness of the approach through a case study, it was found that it has the potential to assist experienced process participants, especially when the consequences of the change are extensive, and its locus is in the middle of the process. The approach contributes both to practice with tool-supported guidance on how to handle unexpected data changes, and to research with a set of impact analysis primitives and queries

Big Data Analytics by Using Hadoop

Data is large and vast, with more data coming into the system every day. Summarization analytics are all about grouping similar data together and then performing an operation such as calculating a statistic, building an index, or just simply counting. Filtering is more about understanding a smaller piece of your data, such as all records generated from a particular user, or the top ten most used verbs in a corpus of text. In short, filtering allows you to apply a microscope to your data. It can also be considered a form of search. Hadoop allows us to modify the way data is loaded on disk in two major ways: configuring how contiguous chunks of input are generated from blocks in, and configuring how records appear in the map phase. The two classes you’ll be playing with to do this are Record Reader and Input Format. These work with the Hadoop MapReduce framework in a very similar way to how mappers and Reducers are plugged in. This is about the analytics side of Hadoop or MapReduce. Computation in Hadoop MapReduce is performed in parallel, automatically, with a simple abstraction for developers that obviate complex synchronization and network programming. Unlike many other distributed data processing systems, Hadoop runs the user-provided processing logic on the machine where the data lives rather than dragging the data across the network; a huge win for performance. At Q&A sites such as Experts exchange service developed and the number of users grew from thousands to millions, storing, processing, and managing all the incoming data became increasingly challenging. There were several reasons for adopting Hadoop: The distributed file system provided redundant backups for the data stored on it at no extra cost. Scalability was simplified through the ability to add cheap, commodity hardware when required. Hadoop provided a flexible framework for running distributed computing algorithms with a relatively easy learning curve. Hadoop can be used to form core backend batch and near real-time computing infrastructures. It can also be used to store and archive massive datasets

This final report entitled The Index of Health Service Satisfactory for Hospitalized Lung Patients class III in RSUD Palembang Bari. Rumah Sakit Umum dan Daerah Palembang Bari is located on Panca Usaha street, Kertapati, Palembang. This final report is made to know the average of expectation, average of satisfaction, difference between expectation and satisfaction of health services Rumah Sakit Umum dan Daerah Palembang Bari and also to know the index referring to the index from KEPMENPAN No. Kep-25/M.PAN/2/2004. This report is made using questionnaire methods data with Likert Scale and refers to the index of KEPMENPAN No. Kep-25/M.PAN/2/2004. The measurement of health services index is using service quality dimension from Zeithamil (tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and emphaty). The result of this final report is we can know that the index of health service quality in Rumah Sakit Umum dan Daerah Palembang Bari is B (good). But this result also informs that Rumah Sakit Umum dan Daerah Palembang Bari still needs some corrections in order to develop their quality services. Keyword: Index, services quality, expectation, satisfaction

Anterior Mediastinal Mass: A Rare Presentation of Tuberculosis

We report a case of a 14-year-boy who presented to us with a low-grade fever with evening rise for 9 months. Along with this, the patient also reported a reduction in his appetite and body weight. He had a mild dry cough but no respiratory symptoms otherwise. There was no other localization for fever on history. He received antitubercular therapy, based on abnormal chest radiograph. However, there was no relief in his symptoms. General physical examination revealed mild fever. Systemic examination was unremarkable. Blood investigations done for fever were noncontributory. Computed tomographic (CT) scan of the chest revealed a mediastinal mass compressing the trachea. The possibilities of lymphoma or germ cell tumour were considered. A biopsy from the mass under CT guidance was performed. The histopathology revealed multiple epithelioid cell granulomas with necrosis, and the diagnosis of tuberculosis was made. The clinical course of this patient and the relevant literature is presented in this paper
