On strong homogeneity of two global optimization algorithms based on statistical models of multimodal objective functions

The implementation of global optimization algorithms, using the arithmetic of infinity, is considered. A relatively simple version of implementation is proposed for the algorithms that possess the introduced property of strong homogeneity. It is shown that the P-algorithm and the one-step Bayesian algorithm are strongly homogeneous.Comment: 11 pages, 1 figur

For most institutions information technologies represent a hole of additional expense. Most campuses have simply bolted new technologies onto a fixed plant, a fixed faculty, and a fixed notion of classroom instruction. Presented results show that all thirty institutions of course redesign online learning program reduced cost by about forty percent on average, increased course-completion rates, improved retention, better student attitudes toward the subject matter. All universities and colleges of this program have realized promise of technology by means of whole course redesign, active learning, computer-based learning resources, mastery learning, on-demand help, alternative staffing.Straipsnyje aptariama mokymo finansavimo, mokinančiųjų vertinimo, mokymo turinio ir elektroninio mokymo reikšmingumas, mokymo kokybės veiksmingumo ir ryšio skalės. Most educational systems take into account learner features like goals/tasks, knowledge, background, hyperspace experience, preferences and interests. However, less attention has been paid to the fact that people have different approaches to learning, namely that the individuals perceive and process information in very different ways.Recent researches are trying to alleviate this and integrate learning styles in the design of their adaptive applications.

On Metaeconomic Consensus in Global Management

    Get PDF
The paper review the metaeconomic approaches in global management (MGM) which include social criteria and tasks arranged into consecutive conceptual system with account of changing normative (or minimax) functions and multicriteria approach detailing admitted hierarchies of those preferences. The systemic taxonomy of the MGM and its structurization are reviewed and conceptualized. The ranking of priorities in the multipurpose economic modelling of social preferences presupposes the weighed comparability of criteria functions on the qualitatively different levels-determining the alternatives of optimization, also multicriteria dynamic equilibrium and the preferable managerial strategies. The stochastic network modelling of universal sustainability for country’s economic development, disposable resources’ allocation a/o characteristics of complex adaptive systems can be recommended as a productive approach to intellectual management practice. The development of MGM would be more effective with more wide integration of multicriteria approaches, also more sophisticated statistical evaluations of intellectual potential in competitive management. The analytical review of the MGM revealed its significance at the stages of formulating the aim hierarchies, or choosing the optimization criteria, the restrictions on preferences and taxonomy of sustainable development

The Approximation of Sum of Independent Distributions by the Erlang Distribution Function

    Get PDF
The exponential distribution and the Erlang distribution function are been used in numerous areas of mathematics, and specifically in the queueing theory. Such and similar applications emphasize the importance of estimation of error of approximation by the Erlang distribution function. The article gives an analysis and technique of error’s estimation of an accuracy of such approximation, especially in some specific cases

Assessment of mobile radiometry data in radiological emergencies using Bayesian statistical methods

    Get PDF
Nuclear technology and the use of radiation sources have been extensively adopted in the modern world. Despite that, a number of radiological accidents, significantly affecting population and the environment, has happened. Few of the most known are accidents in Chernobyl and Fukushima nuclear power plants. As a result, significant areas are still contaminated with some residential areas evacuated. To estimate the possibility to return to an affected area, the spatial distribution of deposition density of the radionuclides within the area has to be evaluated using mobile gamma spectrometry. In radiological emergencies involving lost radioactive sources, mobile gamma spectrometry equipment is used to survey the area where the source is suspected to be, trying to localize and identify the radioactive source. For both: radionuclide spatial distribution estimation and source localization problems, the most prominent methods of data analysis were established decades ago and are robust and easy to utilise. Despite that, the usual methods, like interpolation or using an alarm threshold level, do not use all of the available data in the measurement time‑series to produce an estimation of the situation.Using Bayesian statistics it is possible to combine the prior knowledge about the situation with the data, to obtain predictions about the situation. Thus, the aim of this thesis was to investigate the feasibility of a Bayesian‑based approach for mobile gamma spectrometry applications in radiological emergencies. A Bayesian algorithm was developed for analysing measurement time-series to extract the physical location and source strength in an orphan source search and to map radionuclide deposition in an area of interest. It was found that the Bayesian methods could be successfully applied to obtain the predicted position and activity of the source or the spatial deposition of the radionuclide within an area. It was also found that the accuracy of the Bayesian estimations is heavily dependent on the quality and quantity of the data, the more and the better quality data – the better the assessments. A comparison of the most prominent method for an orphan source detection using alarm threshold levels with the Bayesian method, in terms of detection probability of orphan sources using simulated data, has shown that the Bayesian algorithm can potentially detect the radioactive sources more reliably than the usual alarm threshold method due to the inclusion of all of the data in the measurement time-series.The overall conclusion of the thesis is that Bayesian methods can be successfully applied to mobile spectrometry data. The mapping and positioning of gamma emitting radionuclides can be done more precisely and provide more information about the radiation in the environment during radiological accident scenarios. Despite the shown potential of Bayesian methods in mobile gamma spectrometry within this thesis, further investigations are needed to validate the findings discussed

Endophoric definiteness: An analysis based on Romanian data

    Get PDF
[full article and abstract in English] Definiteness as a grammatical or pragmatic category is usually explained via the act of reference. In this spirit, a definite noun phrase is said to ensure that the hearer can identify the entity to which the NP refers, thus establishing a successful act of communication. The well-known typology of definiteness types developed by Hawkins (1978) relies on this assumption. However, such an explanation fails to clarify all the definite noun phrases in discourse. This paper argues that the information provided in the complex nominal constituent can yield a definite interpretation of the nominal regardless of the hearer’s ability to identify the real-life referent to which the noun refers. Such types of definite noun phrases are subsumed in this article under the term “endophoric definiteness”. I will discuss two subtypes of endophoric definiteness. First, the relational definiteness, based on the notion of reference-point constructions will be discussed. Then I will turn to modificational definiteness where the use of modifiers contribute to the definite interpretation of the nominal. The article focuses on how the endophoric definiteness types function and what strategies can be used to mark them formally. To illustrate this point, I use the qualitative analysis of Romanian data. It shows that a language may have different grammatical patterns for the two subtypes of endophoric definiteness. This formal distinction in linguistic expression shows that relational and modificational definiteness types must be taken into account as contributing, in distinct ways, to the category of definiteness.[straipsnis ir santrauka anglų kalba
