Rheological properties vs Local Dynamics in model disordered materials at Low Temperature

We study the rheological response at low temperature of a sheared model disordered material as a function of the bond rigidity. We find that the flow curves follow a Herschel-Bulkley law, whatever is the bond rigidity, with an exponent close to 0.5. Interestingly, the apparent viscosity can be related to a single relevant time scale $t_{rel}$, suggesting a strong connection between the local dynamics and the global mechanical behaviour. We propose a model based on the competition between the nucleation and the avalanche-like propagation of spatial strain heterogeneities. This model can explain the Herschel-Bulkley exponent on the basis of the size dependence of the heterogeneities on the shear rate.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figure

Acteurs et interdépendances dans l’affaire Hissène Habré

D’abord locale et peu internationalisée, puis saisie par les organisations non gouvernementales internationales (ongi) à la fin des années 1990, l’affaire Habré s’inscrit désormais dans une problématique mondiale, celle de la compétence universelle. Malgré cette mobilisation, aucune démarche pour juger l’ex-président tchadien n’a pour l’instant abouti. En nous appuyant sur les modèles de jeux d’Elias, nous montrerons comment l’augmentation du nombre d’acteurs et leurs interdépendances engendrent une absence de maîtrise du jeu et conduisent les acteurs vers une configuration qu’ils n’imaginaient pas. D’où la multitude de revirements dans l’affaire Habré : le Sénégal qui, en 2001, refusait de juger Habré adopte aujourd’hui des lois à cette fin ; la loi belge de 1993 sur la compétence universelle, dont les ongi souhaitaient démontrer la raison d’être, a été abolie…Initially a local affair without much international involvement, the Habre affair was seized upon by international ngos at the end of the 1990s, and subsequently became caught up within a global issue, that of universal jurisdiction. Despite the mobilisation of the international ngo community, no effort to bring the former president of Chad to trial has so far succeeded. Drawing on Elias’s game models, we will show how the increase in the number of actors and their interdependences lead to a lack of mastery of the game and bring the actors into an unexpected configuration. Hence the multitude of U-turns in the Habre affair: Senegal who in 2001 was refusing to bring Habre to trial is now adopting laws to that end; the 1993 Belgian law on universal jurisdiction that the international ngos were going to rely on was repealled

Communication mer-lagune: impact d'une réouverture sur l'ichtyofaune de la lagune Ebrié (Côte d'Ivoire)

The artificial reopening of the lagoon inlet, made in Grand-Bantam in September 1987 in order to reduce the aquatic weeds proliferation, induced some environmental and fish communities alterations in the eastern part of the Ebrié lagoon (Côte d'Ivoire). A preliminary field survey made in May 1988 shows an increase in the salinity rate and an increase of the marine component among fish communities, when compared to the former ecological state of this lagoon area (reference data of 1980 and 1981)

Analyse de vidéos en langue des signes : méthodes et stratégies

National audienceLes langues des signes (LS) sont les formes les plus abouties de communication gestuelle. Leur analyse automatique constitue donc un réel défi qui implique de prendre en compte leur organisation aux niveaux lexical et syntaxique. Cet article présente dans un premier temps les spécificités des langues des signes pour montrer la difficulté d'un traitement automatique de vidéos en LS. Nous montrons comment des contraintes propres aux LS peuvent etre intégrées à un système de suivi des mains et de la tete dans les vidéos pour le rendre plus robuste et comment les résultats du suivi peuvent etre intégrés dans un modèle de plus haut niveau rendant compte de l'organisation spatiale des LS
