    Comparison of different experimental methods for the assessment of the room's acoustics

    The paper presents the acoustics analysis of three different enclosed spaces. These spaces (rooms) have different geometrical shapes and sizes and serve for different purposes. The early decay time, reverberation time, clarity and center time are evaluated with Dirac, WinMLS, Aurora and Caracad software using simple, low-cost equipment. The listed acoustic parameters were determined using linear sine sweep and impulsive sources. Comparisons between experimental measurements, simulations and analytic results were done. The room impulse response measurement proved to be the most reliable method to evaluate the properties of different rooms even if the measurements are perturbed by non-idealities of the low-cost equipment

    Epidermal inclusion cyst of the breast . A literature review

    An epidermal inclusion cyst (EIC) of the breast is a rare, benign condition that may potentially be malignant. The present study conducted a systematic review of the literature in order to identify pathological hypotheses, clinical characteristics, and diagnostic and treatment options. A search for relevant studies was conducted through the Scopus, Embase and Medline databases during September 2014. The search term employed was áżľepidermal inclusion cyst breastáľ˝. Studies were selected if they contained adequate information regarding symptoms at presentation, diagnostic tools, pathology, characteristics, type of procedure performed and follow-up routines. A total of 35 papers describing 91 patients affected by EIC of the breast were identified. Following this, a total of 82 patients, including an additional case supplied from the present study, were selected for further analysis. EIC of the breast typically occurs during the fifth decade of life. A palpable mass of the breast was present in 65 (79%) patients. Ultrasonographic imaging was consistently utilized as a diagnostic tool in all the cases analyzed, whereas fine-needle aspiration cytology was used in 70% of the cases and mammography in 65%. No tumor recurrence was reported at a mean follow-up time of 53 months. The present study demonstrated that elliptical excision is the preferred treatment for EIC of the breast, with pathological analysis required to exclude malignancy

    Magnetic Control of Transmission and Helicity of Nano-Structured Optical Beams in Magnetoplasmonic Vortex Lenses

    We theoretically investigate the generation of far-field propagating optical beams with a desired orbital angular momentum by using an archetypical magnetoplasmonic tip surrounded by a gold spiral slit. The use of a magnetic material can lead to important implications once magneto-optical activity is activated through the application of an external magnetic field. The physical model and the numerical study presented here introduce the concept of magnetically tunable plasmonic vortex lens, namely a magnetoplasmonic vortex lens, which ensures a tunable selectivity in the polarization state of the generated nanostructured beam. The presented system provides a promising platform for a localized excitation of plasmonic vortices followed by their beaming in the far-field with an active modulation of both light's transmittance and helicity

    Automatic system for 3D photogrammetry of small artificial biotopes using the crawler remote operating vehicle at OBSEA observatory

    Nowadays, the need to save the sea is getting more recognized, which is why marine technologies are so important. These can perform different functions complicated by people or help in science studies. 3D photogrammetry can help with different seabed studies, such as marine biology [1] or visualizing the evolution of a marine artificial biotope [2]. Getting the evolution of a marine artificial biotope can help with different issues investigations such as the ecological niche, the functional relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem processes such as production, and the applied problems of nature conservation such as designing nature reserve systems or networks. This work is based on the OBSEA cabled observatory [3], that is part of the European Multidisciplinary Seafloor and water column Observatory (EMSO), and Remote Observation Vehicle (ROV), the underwater Crawler [4], a modified version of the “Wally” platform series. The new ROV is easily deployable for monitoring benthic communities, such as biotopes. The Crawler has an 360º HD camera with a 180º tilt embedded in a glass sphere on the front of the vehicle, allowing a panoramic view (FOV). The control of the Crawler camera has been enhanced with a semiautomatic underwater 3D photogrammetry. Semiautomatic, because the Crawler control and the image taking was automatic, but the photogrammetry part, was manual. For the 3D photogrammetry we have tested different opensource programs, such as Agisoft Metashape, Meshroom, Regard3D and COLMAP. All these programs generate a 3D model through imported images. Images must be taken along the entire surface of the desired object, using different angles and directions, to obtain more or less detail with more or fewer images. We have done a review to choose the best option, and in our case, it was Agisoft Metashape, using the demo version. In this work we present the results obtained through a circular circuit around the biotope, as shown in Figure 1, stopping at different point to take photos at three different angles, close enough to detect details. And, as the photos are taken, the Crawler processes and calibrates them, to create the photogrammetry more easily later.Peer Reviewe

    Magnetic nulls and super-radial expansion in the solar corona

    Magnetic fields in the sun's outer atmosphere -- the corona -- control both solar-wind acceleration and the dynamics of solar eruptions. We present the first clear observational evidence of coronal magnetic nulls in off-limb linearly polarized observations of pseudostreamers, taken by the Coronal Multichannel Polarimeter (CoMP) telescope. These nulls represent regions where magnetic reconnection is likely to act as a catalyst for solar activity. CoMP linear-polarization observations also provide an independent, coronal proxy for magnetic expansion into the solar wind, a quantity often used to parameterize and predict the solar wind speed at Earth. We introduce a new method for explicitly calculating expansion factors from CoMP coronal linear-polarization observations, which does not require photospheric extrapolations. We conclude that linearly-polarized light is a powerful new diagnostic of critical coronal magnetic topologies and the expanding magnetic flux tubes that channel the solar wind

    A case of acute aortic dissection type b associated with cushing's syndrome

    We report a case of a 63-year-old man, with a previous history of hypertension and glucose intolerance associated troncular obesity that was emergently admitted to our Institution for evaluation of a severe, constant posterior chest pain which radiated anteriorly and dyspnoea with a suspected diagnosis of acute aortic dissection. A CT scan of thorax and abdomen demonstrated a dissection starting just below left succlavian artery and extending downward to the left renal artery, involving the celiac tripod and superior mesenteric artery. The dissection was classified as Stanford B, De Bakey III. Moreover, CT scan of abdomen revealed incidentally a left adrenal tumor of 25 mm of diameter. An emergent prosthetic graft was placed just below the origin of the left succlavian artery up-to the diaphragmatic hiatus. Furthermore, a diagnostic evaluation of the mass revealed an increase of cortisol production, and a diagnosis of Cushing's syndrome was done and the patient underwent an adrenalectomy via laparotomic approach. We report an association of acute aortic dissection of acute aortic dissection type B associated to Cushing's syndrome. Cushing's syndrome; Adrenocortical adenoma; Aortic dissection type B
