Locus Of Control And Contraceptive Knowledge, Attitude And Practice Among University Students [lócus De Controle E Conhecimento, Atitude E Prática Contraceptivas Entre Adolescentes Universitários]

Objective: To assess the relationship between locus of control and knowledge, attitude and practice regarding pill and condom use among university students. Methods: The inquiry was developed in Campinas, a city in Southeastern Brazil, in 2006. A total of 295 adolescent newcomers to a public university answered a structured questionnaire and Levenson's multidimensional locus of control scale. The scores of the dimensions of locus of control were calculated and Spearman's correlation coefficient was used to assess their correlation with knowledge and practice concerning pill and condom use. In order to assess the relationship between the dimensions of locus of control and sociodemographic variables and variables related to the individuals' sex life, Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests were used. RESULTS: Male adolescents had higher scores of powerful others externality when compared to female adolescents (p=0.01). Students living alone had lower internality (p=0.01). When locus of control was compared to condom use in the first intercourse, considering only the 102 students who informed the age of the beginning of sexual activity, greater internality was found among male adolescents who did not use condoms (p<0.05). When the locus of control scores were correlated with contraceptive knowledge and practice, it was found that the higher the powerful others externality locus, the lower the adequate use of contraceptive methods (r= -0.22, p=0.03). Nursing And Fuzzy Logic: An Integrative Review [enfermerïa Y Lögica Fuzzy: Una Revisiön De Integradora]

This study conducted an integrative review investigating how fuzzy logic has been used in research with the participation of nurses. The article search was carried out in the CINAHL, EMBASE, SCOPUS, PubMed and Medline databases, with no limitation on time of publication. Articles written in Portuguese, English and Spanish with themes related to nursing and fuzzy logic with the authorship or participation of nurses were included. The final sample included 21 articles from eight countries. For the purpose of analysis, the articles were distributed into categories: theory, method and model. In nursing, fuzzy logic has significantly contributed to the understanding of subjects related to: imprecision or the need of an expert; as a research method; and in the development of models or decision support systems and hard technologies. Development, Implementation And Evaluation Of A Distance Course About Wound Treatment [desenvolvimento, Aplicação E Avaliação De Um Curso à Distância Sobre Tratamento De Feridas]

This research aimed to design, implement and evaluate a distance learning course (DLC), using the Internet, in a virtual environment named TelEduc. Thirty-eight nurses were invited, 28 of whom registered and 17 concluded the course. The specialists and the students evaluated the course and diagnostic (pre-test), process and final (post-test) evaluations were made. Specialists in distance learning and wounds considered the course as adequate but recommended minor adjustments. Most of the students showed a positive opinion about the course. A comparison between pre- and post-test results showed that students scored better on the post-test (p<0.0001). Risk Factors For Urinary Incontinence In Women [fatores De Risco Para Incontinência Urinária Na Mulher]

The goal of this study was to conduct a review of the main papers published between 1983 and 2003 on the main risk factors for urinary incontinence (Ul) in women. Thirty-eight publications in English and Portuguese were analyzed using the MEDLINE and LILACS databases as well as through research in libraries. There is evidence that the main risk factors are age, pelvic floor trauma, hereditary factors, race, menopausal status, obesity, chronic diseases, use of some sympathomimetics and parasympatholitics, constipation, smoking, coffee consumption and intense abdominal exercises. The Use Of Expert Systems On The Differential Diagnosis Of Urinary Incontinence [uso De Sistemas Especialistas Para O Diagnóstico Diferencial De Incontinência Urinária]

The differential diagnosis of urinary incontinence classes is sometimes difficult to establish. As a rule, only the results of urodynamic testing allow an accurate diagnosis. However, this exam is not always feasible, because it requires special equipment, and also trained personnel to lead and interpret the exam. Some expert systems have been developed to assist health professionals in this field. Therefore, the aims of this paper are to present the definition of Artificial Intelligence; to explain what Expert System and System for Decision Support are and its application in the field of health and to discuss some expert systems for differential diagnosis of urinary incontinence. It is concluded that expert systems may be useful not only for teaching purposes, but also as decision support in daily clinical practice. Nursing Care Of Women Who Suffered Sexual Violence [atendimento De Enfermagem às Mulheres Que Sofrem Violência Sexual]

The aim of this study was to characterize the nursing care, provided to women who suffered sexual violence, treated at The Women's Hospital-CAISM/UNICAMP. A retrospective, descriptive study performed using 146 nursing care records of women attended from June 2006 to May 2007. The results showed that the majority of attendances occurred during the day period, that there was consistency between the interventions and the nursing diagnoses identified, and that women reported having received guidance in accordance with the protocol of the program. The nursing consultation time was greater at night (p=0.0227) and the women frequently understood the health risks resulting from sexual violence (p=0.0072), the use of antiretrovirals according to their daily activities (p=0.0397) and they were more focused on the purpose of the serology (p=0.0351).
