Galaxy formation: from primordial fluctuations to structure formation in the Universe
The Informational Foundation of the Human Act
This book is the result of a collective research effort performed during many years in both Sweden and Spain. It is the result of attempting to develop a new field of research that could we denominate «human act informatics.» The goal has been to use the technologies of information to the study of the human act in general, including embodied acts and disembodied acts. The book presents a theory of the quantification of the informational value of human acts as order, opposing the living order against entropy. We present acting as a set of decisions and choices aimed to create order and to impose Modernity. Karl Popperâs frequency theory of probability is applied to characterize human acts regarding their degree of freedom and to set up a scale of order in human decisions.
The traditional theory of economics and social science characterize the human act as rational, utilitarian and ethical. Our results emphasize that the unique significance of an act lies in its capacity to generate order. An adequate methodology is then presented to defend such hypothesis according to which, the rationality respective irrationality of acting, is in fact only a function of the actâs organizational capacity. From this perspective, it has been necessary to define «order» respective «disorder» as operative concepts that allowed the comparison of the organizational differences generated by each kind of act. According to the presented conclusions, the spontaneity of living, as unconscious thinking, dreaming, loving, etc. and the mainstream of the human acts, are utilitarian, but in an irrational way; they are rooted in unconscious drifts and therefore must be considered irrational-utility acts
Seasonal Fluctuations and Dynamic Equilibrium Models of Exchange Rate
Most dynamic equilibrium models of exchange rate are not able to generate monthly time series with the typical properties of actual exchange rate. If the exogenous endowments in an equilibrium exchange rate model contain seasonal variations, then the exchange rate will as well. In this paper, we show how in this framework, seasonal preferences can help to remove seasonality of the exchange rate simulated time series.Exchange rate, Equilibrium model, Seasonality.
Monitoring human right to water in rural areas: a Nicaraguan case study
Much effort has gone into the recognition of the hu
man right to water. Without doubt, this milestone
influences governance and decision making processes
at different scales. Now it is essential to shift
discussion from legal and conceptual framework to p
ractice. Taking this idea into account, the article
proposes a methodology for monitoring the implement
ation of the right. The work takes the legal and
conceptual framework of the right, agreed by intern
ational consensus, as a starting point. Moreover, l
essons
learnt from other indicators and indexes constructi
on are considered. It is based on a water & sanitat
ion rural
services case study carried out in Nicaragua and pa
rticularly in Jinotega and Matagalpa -rural departm

from the north-central region-. The different categ
ories of the right to water were included in survey
s and
structured interviews design that were conducted in
rural households and water comities, respectively.

Model-dependent radiative corrections to tau- -> pi- pi0 nu revisited
The long-distance electromagnetic radiative corrections to tau- -> pi- pi0 nu
are re-evaluated. A meson dominance model is used to describe the emission of
real photons in this decay. Results obtained for the hadronic spectrum and the
decay rate in photon inclusive reactions are compared with previous
calculations based on the chiral resonance theory. Independent tests in tau ->
pi pi nu gamma that can help to validate the predictions of one of the two
models are briefly discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, talk given by GLC at the 9th International

Effect of iron and ascorbic acid addition on dry infusion process and final color of pumpkin tissue
In the present study, pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata Duchesne ex Poiret) was used as raw material to produce sweet food fortified with iron (Fe) and ascorbic acid (AA). A dry infusion process with a subsequent air drying was applied. Response surface methodology was performed in order to analyze the effect of Fe and AA incorporation into the formulation on: water loss (WL) and solid gain (SG) during the dry infusion process, color changes (ÎE) and the dehydration percentage during subsequent air drying process. The results showed that the presence of Fe and/or AA promoted SG and WL during the dry infusion and also, weight changes during the air drying process (PP). An increase of the color changes was also observed. In turn, it was possible to obtain predictive equations for the parameters studied. The application of edible coating based on tapioca starch on pumpkin product was also tested showing a protective effect from the pumpkin color view point.Fil: Genevois, Carolina Elizabeth.
