ALGUNS CONCEITOS FUNDAMENTAIS DA TEORIA ARISTOTÉLICA DA SIGNIFICAÇÃO A PARTIR DE SOBRE A INTERPRETAÇÃO, CAPÍTULO 1

Resumo Procuro neste artigo discutir alguns conceitos fundamentais da teoria aristotélica da significação que aparecem no capítulo 1 do tratado Sobre a interpretação. Nesta discussão, apresento um modelo de interpretação alternativo àquele que pode ser chamado modelo tradicional, originado especialmente através dos comentários ao tratado feitos por Amônio e Boécio. Para corroborar esta proposta alternativa, exponho sumariamente modos distintos de compreensão dos termos gregos 'symbolon', 'pathêmata tês psychês', 'homoiômata', 'noêmata' e 'pragmata', bem como da correlação entre eles tal como se apresenta no mencionado capítulo. Abstract In this article I intend to discuss some fundamental concepts of the Aristotelian theory of signification which appear in chapter 1 of the treatise On interpretatation. In such discussion, I present an alternative model of interpretation in face of those which can be named traditional model, specially originated through the commentaries on the treatise made by Ammonius and Boethius. In order to corroborate this alternative proposal, I propound briefly distinct modes of comprehension of the Greek terms 'symbolon', 'pathêmata tês psychês', 'homoiômata', 'noêmata', and 'pragmata', as well as of the correlation between them such as it is presented in the mentioned chapter

Data-visualization and new literacies: new methods for video remixes analysis

This article introduces audiovisual data-set, and data-visualization methods developed to analyze video remixes, i.e., Anime Music Videos (AMVs). It mainly focuses on reviewing the methodology that has supported our Ph.D. thesis which aims to integrate a qualitative methodology according to Bakhtin\u27s theories of genre and architectonics, and a quantitative methodology based on media visualization techniques and statistical distributions of formal and stylistic choices. More specifically, it aimed to reflect upon on audiovisual productions belonging to the site http://www.animemusicvideos.org/. Community whose goal is the elaboration and distribution of Japanese animations remixes called Anime Music Videos (AMVs). We propose to integrate an enunciative-discursive perspective, formulated for verbal language with an analysis objective method of multimodal objects. Hence we suggest a mixed research design (quantitative and qualitative) based on statistical distributions and description and analysis of our data visualization techniques, aiming to reveal relationships and patterns in our collection of audiovisual data, so as to provide productive transitions between the concepts proposed by Bakhtin and his Circle, and analysis of editing and video editing tools

Action Recognition in Videos: from Motion Capture Labs to the Web

This paper presents a survey of human action recognition approaches based on visual data recorded from a single video camera. We propose an organizing framework which puts in evidence the evolution of the area, with techniques moving from heavily constrained motion capture scenarios towards more challenging, realistic, "in the wild" videos. The proposed organization is based on the representation used as input for the recognition task, emphasizing the hypothesis assumed and thus, the constraints imposed on the type of video that each technique is able to address. Expliciting the hypothesis and constraints makes the framework particularly useful to select a method, given an application. Another advantage of the proposed organization is that it allows categorizing newest approaches seamlessly with traditional ones, while providing an insightful perspective of the evolution of the action recognition task up to now. That perspective is the basis for the discussion in the end of the paper, where we also present the main open issues in the area.Comment: Preprint submitted to CVIU, survey paper, 46 pages, 2 figures, 4 table

A Duplicação da Rodovia Fernão Dias:Uma Análise de Equilíbrio Geral

This paper quantifies the aggregate and regional welfare effects of the duplication of the Fernão Dias highway (BR-381), as well as its impact on the regional equity, using a spatial applied general equilibrium model, which incorporates transportation costs. The consequences in terms of efficiency and equity are quantified by simulating the travel time reduction and the freight decrease due the duplication of the highway. The general equilibrium model is specified for five industries (agriculture and living stock, mining industries, manufacturing industries, construction and services), twelve domestic regions, three external regions and two production factors (labor and other factors). In aggregate terms, the results reveal that the travel time effect does not yield social welfare gains at all, although it enhances regional income inequalities. The freight effect dominates the travel time effect in the simulations. Optimização da colagem em reforços estruturais por meio de pós-cura

A reparação ou substituição de elementos degradados em estruturas de madeira em serviço pode em alguns casos ser feita com a introdução de próteses de madeira nova, ligadas à madeira existente através de chapas ou varões colados. Esta abordagem apresenta-se como uma alternativa eficiente e rápida, que permite muitas vezes a manutenção de estruturas que seriam de outro modo substituídas ou profundamente alteradas, com técnicas mais intrusivas. Nestas intervenções são geralmente usadas colas epoxídicas, por serem as mais adequadas à execução de colagens em obra. O principal inconveniente destas colas é o facto de serem bastante sensíveis a temperaturas de serviço elevadas, resultando na redução da resistência e da rigidez das juntas coladas. No entanto, estudos anteriores realizados no LNEC mostraram que a resposta das colas epoxídicas à temperatura pode ser melhorada com o aumento da temperatura durante o processo de cura ou com a pós-cura das juntas de madeira coladas. Na presente dissertação foi desenvolvido e testado um novo método capaz de aplicar regimes de pós-cura a juntas coladas em obra, baseado na incorporação de resistências eléctricas na linha de cola. Foram também verificados os efeitos de diferentes regimes de cura na resistência de ligações coladas de madeira de Espruce realizadas com colas epoxídicas. O desempenho das juntas coladas foi avaliado através de ensaios de corte realizados à temperatura ambiente e a temperaturas elevadas, dentro da gama de temperaturas se serviço previstas, por exemplo, em coberturas. Os resultados mostraram a viabilidade do método proposto e confirmaram os efeitos benéficos da pós-cura aplicada desta forma a ligações coladas de madeira com colas epoxídicas

Vocabulary in foreign-language learning explorations of a neglected area

Dissertação(mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Comunicação e ExpressãoExploração de questões preliminares com vistas a uma teoria da aquisição de vocabulário em língua estrangeira - LE e uma terminologia correlata. Investiga-se a produção local (Pós-Graduação em Inglês/UFSC) em áreas afins destacando-se o enfocado e o ignorado. Observações da literatura internacional permitem enfatizar a importância da proficiência lexical em vários aspectos do desempenho comunicativo e línguo-aquisicional de aprendizes de LE. Contraditoriamente, a literatura também aponta um certo descaso pelo assunto, relacionado a disputas lingüísticas teóricas sobre as relações entre léxico e gramática. Em descaso mais gritante está, em Lingüística Aplicada, o enfoque específico do conhecimento lexical e do processo de aquisição de vocabulário em LE. Um esquema das áreas de interesse ligadas a este objeto de descaso descortina um vasto 'campo' de assuntos interconexos e atividades correlatas. Deste campo, num segundo passo de aproximação, analisam-se as dimensões lingüísticas e psicológicas da proficiência lexical. Por fim, apontam-se ulteriores linhas de continuidade lógica desta investigação que é feita a partir do escrutínio de cerca de 150 trabalhos listados na bibliografia
