    Virtually Haken fillings and semi-bundles

Suppose that M is a fibered three-manifold whose fiber is a surface of positive genus with one boundary component. Assume that M is not a semi-bundle. We show that infinitely many fillings of M along dM are virtually Haken. It follows that infinitely many Dehn-surgeries of any non-trivial knot in the three-sphere are virtually Haken.Comment: This is the version published by Geometry & Topology on 29 November 200

This thesis discusses the analysis of three Ministers decree on Ahmadiyah (a case study of conflict between FUI and GAIin Yogyakarta, 2012). The ministerial analysis and the factors that cause of conflicts is done by using the theory ofcritical discourse analysis of Norman Fairclough, Antonio Gramsci's theory of hegemony, and the theory of the cause ofconflict by Simon Fisher. From the analysis, it can be concluded that the pros and cons that always arise in the processof production and consumption of three Ministers decree on Ahmadiyah. Groups for Ahmadiyah have opinion thatfreedom must not be restricted because of the position as a citizen. Constitutional guarantees and product legislationrelated to human rights also guarantees it. The group cons have argue that the activities undertaken by the Ahmadiyahis incompatible with Islam. If Ahmadiyah still do the activities, which can not themselves are Muslims. This research alsofound that the factors of causing conflict between FUI and GAI in Yogyakarta, 2012, are not a single. First, the GAI isconsidered an insult to the Muslim faith. Second, straying from MUI to GAI is the main reference for the rejection of GAI.Third, the differences in understanding of the decree about Ahmadiyah. Fourth, the unilateral allegations of each group, and the fifth, the exclusivity of GAI

Fibrous Cap Smooth Muscle Cells in Atherosclerotic Coronary Arteries Do Not Express Pluripotent Stem Cell Markers

Rupture of the coronary artery fibrous cap is a common cause of myocardial infarction, and bone marrow derived cells could play a role in preventing plaque rupture. It is currently unknown whether smooth muscle cells within coronary artery fibrous cap formation are of mature phenotype. Objective. To characterize cells expressing bone marrow stem cells of embryonic type (ESC) markers in coronary artery fibrous cap formation. Design. New Zealand White rabbits were fed a diet supplemented with 0.5% cholesterol  +  1% methionine  +  5% peanut oil for 4 weeks and then a normal diet for 9 weeks. The left main coronary artery was excised from the heart, processed for paraffin and immunohistochemistry was performed by standard techniques. Results. Oct-4, SSEA 1, 3, and 4 were all present within in atherosclerotic plaque core, codistributed with RAM-11, and were sparingly found in the fibrous cap, but TRA-1-60 and TRA-1-81 positive cells were scarce. Core but not fibrous cap smooth muscle (SMC actin+) cells also showed codistribution with ESC markers. Conclusions. These results suggest that smooth muscle cells present in the fibrous cap do not express ESC markers, indicative of a mature cell

The Digital Covenant: Non-Centralized Platform Governance on the Mastodon Social Network

    Get PDF
The majority of scholarship on platform governance focuses on for-profit, corporate social media with highly centralized network structures. Instead, we show how non-centralized platform governance functions in the Mastodon social network. Through an analysis of survey data, Github and Discourse developer discussions, Mastodon Codes of Conduct, and participant observations, we argue Mastodon’s platform governance is an exemplar of the covenant, a key concept from federalist political theory. We contrast Mastodon’s covenantal federalism platform governance with the contractual form used by corporate social media. We also use covenantal federalist theory to explain how Mastodon’s users, administrators, and developers justify revoking or denying membership in the federation. In doing so, this study sheds new light on the innovations in platform governance that go beyond the corporate/alt-right platform dichotomy
