    Moulding a villain in billion dollar whale: a post-humanist approach

    The advancement of the human race and the emergence of new ideologies/movements often come hand in hand. Post-humanism is a concept whose origin can be traced to the 1980s when people began to challenge the long-established views of humanism. Humanism emphasises that the world be evaluated through a fixed moral hierarchy where the human species must be placed on top of it. On the contrary, post-humanism challenges this view by highlighting the importance of redefining what it means to be human. It urges people to embrace different identities and see the world beyond its basic dualistic nature. This paper examines how post-humanistic ideas can be employed as tools to mould the villain, Jho Low, in Tom Wright’s and Bradley Hope’s Billion Dollar Whale. This article draws on ideas from Donna Haraway (1985) in relation to the concept of ‘cyborg’ and Francesca Ferrando’s (2019) discussion on post-dualism that breaks the categorical differences between humans and other non-human objects. It argues that the book’s villain, Jho Low, has been transformed so significantly that he is no longer bound by his origins, physical presence, and abilities attributed to humans, eventually rendering him invincible. It also highlights the idea that, just as with any other human, villains evolve, too, offering a different perspective through the post-humanistic lens

    This graduation project is entitled Designing Fax Modem using VHDL. This project is indeed the starting point the way of exploring secret of embedded system. It is actually a practice with the knowledge and hardware and software in computer organization and design. At first stage architecture of fax modem will be analyzed and studied. Then the architecture of the modem is redesigned using hardware prototyping. The hardware prototyping is method that used to test and evaluate the design of a particular fax modem. Coding or programming with VHSIC Hardware Description Language (VHDL) undertakes this approach. Finally, the completed programs and codes will be simulated using the Xilinx Foundation Software. This report is a description of analysis and design of the modem. For the implementation and simulation it will conducted continuously from this stage. This report including books web pages articles.     Understanding Potential Heavy Metal Contamination, Absorption, Translocation and Accumulation in Rice and Human Health Risks

    Rice is a worldwide staple food and heavy metal contamination is often reported in rice production. Heavy metal can originate from natural sources or be present through anthropogenic contamination. Therefore, this review summarizes the current status of heavy metal contamination in paddy soil and plants, highlighting the mechanism of uptake, bioaccumulation, and health risk assessment. A scoping search employing Google Scholar, Science Direct, Research Gate, Scopus, and Wiley Online was carried out to build up the review using the following keywords: heavy metals, absorption, translocation, accumulation, uptake, biotransformation, rice, and human risk with no restrictions being placed on the year of study. Cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), and lead (Pb) have been identified as the most prevalent metals in rice cultivation. Mining and irrigation activities are primary sources, but chemical fertilizer and pesticide usage also contribute to heavy metal contamination of paddy soil worldwide. Further to their adverse effect on the paddy ecosystem by reducing the soil fertility and grain yield, heavy metal contamination represents a risk to human health. An in-depth discussion is further offered on health risk assessments by quantitative measurement to identify potential risk towards heavy metal exposure via rice consumption, which consisted of in vitro digestion models through a vital ingestion portion of rice

    Assessment of Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) Steel Slag Waste’s Recycling Options into Value Added Green Products: A Review

    Steel slag is one of the most common waste products from the steelmaking industry. Conventional methods of slag disposal can cause negative impacts on humans and the environment. In this paper, the process of steel and steel slag production, physical and chemical properties, and potential options of slag recycling were reviewed. Since steel is mainly produced through an electric arc furnace (EAF) in Malaysia, most of the recycling options reviewed in this paper focused on EAF slag and the strengths and weaknesses of each recycle option were outlined. Based on the reports from previous studies, it was found that only a portion of EAF slag is recycled into more straightforward, but lower added value applications such as aggregates for the construction industry and filter/absorber for wastewater treatments. On the other hand, higher added value recycling options for EAF slag that are more complicated such as incorporated as raw material for Portland cement and ceramic building materials remain at the laboratory testing stage. The main hurdle preventing EAF slag from being incorporated as a raw material for higher added value industrial applications is its inconsistent chemical composition. The chemical composition of EAF slag can vary based on the scrap metal used for steel production. For this, mineral separation techniques can be introduced to classify the EAF slag base on its physical and chemical compositions. We concluded that future research on recycling EAF slag should focus on separation techniques that diversify the recycling options for EAF slag, thereby increasing the waste product’s recycling rate
