The Future Of Nontraditional Occupations For Women: A Comprehensive Review Of The Literature And Implications For Workplace Learning And Performance
The United States entrance into World War II in 1941 has been credited with beginning a large movement of women into the workforce and the commencement of governmental support for women working in nontraditional occupations. However, the beginning of the support for women in the workforce can be traced back to the 1920 federal mandate to create the Women’s Bureau within the United States Department of Labor. The United States Department of Labor Women’s Bureau is the only federal agency mandated to represent the needs of wage-earning women in the public policy process. The workingwomen tradition has continued into modern day and the number of workingwomen continues to increase steadily, however, the number of women entering nontraditional occupations has declined to 4.9 percent from 7.1 percent in 1983. There has been an effort to increase the number of women in nontraditional occupations in order to increase high skill/high wage employment to provide women with the opportunity for self-sufficiency. Women predominately are employed as clerical workers, childcare providers, sales clerks, and in other low skill/low wage employment, which does not lead to self-sufficiency. Workingwomen largely remain in nonprofessional occupations (73%), where NTO gains have been minimal. This study provided the preliminary exploratory of the literature to establish best practice guidelines to encourage women to enter non-traditional occupations (NTO). The major factor identified from literature is career self-efficacy. Career self-efficacy can be increased through: performance accomplishments, vicarious learning, verbal persuasion, and emotional arousal. The results of this study reveal that women have perceived challenges to nontraditional occupations, which are rather easily overcome but have been a hindrance to their pursuing nontraditional employment. Challenges include sex-role socialization, discrimination and harassment, transportation and childcare issues, the nontraditional workplace may be hazardous which requires special equipment or gear, extreme weather conditions, and the potential job related injuries. This study has indicated and established a positive correlation for the use of best practice guidelines in career counseling and development in regard to career decision-making. Career development and career counseling for NTO’s requires a set of guidelines. The guidelines for NTO’s should include best practice within the industry or field. Best practice guidelines ensure a common, consistent approach to successfully achieve the highest and best possible outcome. Formal training and education for NTO’s have a prescribed set of best practice guidelines. The best practices guidelines for career counseling and career development programs for women entering NTO’s include: (1) focusing on performance accomplishments, (2) participating in observational learning, (3) attending to emotional arousal, and (4) receiving verbal persuasion and encouragement
Workplace Wellness Programs: A Comparison Between Best Practice Guidelines And Implementation
This paper describes a study to determine best practice guidelines for employee wellness programming amongst organizations and/or employers. A sample of convenience (n = 200) from a local human resource management association was surveyed via e-mail with an internet based questionnaire containing 19 items regarding employee wellness programming, activities, effectiveness, and measurement. The results indicated that Best Practice Guidelines can be established from empirical literature. In addition, the findings indicate employers are implementing best practice guidelines in their existing workplace wellness activities. Most employers are participating in and engaged in workplace wellness activities which utilize effective communication, continuous improvement, accessible and involve employees, and partner with existing and established business relationships to create wellness activities. One area which requires further evaluation and development is the engagement of leadership within organizations
THE PROHIBITION SUSTAINABILITY ON MARRYING A WOMAN OF THE SAME ETHNIC GROUP AS AN EX-WIVE IN MINANGKABAU’S TRADITION
Marriage customs in Binjai, Pasaman Regency, differ from those in other areas. A man is not permitted to marry a woman of the same ethnicity as his ex-wife. According to Islamic law and Minangkabau customs, this prohibition on marriage limits a widower's opportunity to marry a woman of his choice. The aim of this paper is to investigate the origin and purpose of the marriage prohibition in Nagari Binjai, as well as the perspective of Islamic law on this provision. Traditional leaders (datuak), religious leaders, and the community provided the data for this study. Simultaneously, data was gathered via interviews, which were then analyzed using descriptive methods. According to the findings, the origin is the Nagari Binjai customary ancestors' agreement that a man who marries a woman of the same ethnicity as his ex-wife is treated as a relative or referred to as the same mother (samamak).

Secondly, the researchers will discuss the implications for educators, administrators, and researchers. Findings, conclusions, and recommendations will be presented.
An Evaluation Of Workplace Wellness Programs: A Perspective From Rural Organizations
This paper describes a study to determine the prevalence and characteristics of employee wellness programming amongst rural organizations and/or employers. A sample of convenience (n = 200) from a local human resource management association was surveyed via e-mail with an internet based questionnaire containing 20 items regarding employee wellness programming, activities, effectiveness, and measurement. The results indicated that the primary responsibility for employee wellness programming rests with the human resource department (63.6%). Most rural organizations’ employee wellness program are implemented to improve employee health, improve employee productivity, and to reduce absenteeism. The findings indicate human resource professionals in rural organizations are struggling to determine effective measures for employee wellness programs despite significant investments of money. Rural, unlike urban or metropolitan, based organizations are not offering substantial incentives to employees in order to increase participation, and are continuing to offer traditional employee wellness activities such as smoking cessation, and vaccinations. These employers are not measuring effectiveness (53%) and not realizing substantial cost savings (63.2%) for the return on investment
