    The critical parameters in in-situ MgB2 wires and tapes with ex-situ MgB2 barrier after hot isostatic pressure, cold drawing, cold rolling and doping

    MgB precursor wires were prepared using powder in tube technique by Institute of High Pressure PAS in Warsaw. All samples were annealed under isostatic pressure generated by liquid Argon in the range from 0.3 GPa to 1 GPa. In this paper, we show the effects of different processing routes, namely, cold drawing (CD), cold rolling (CR), hot isostatic pressure (HIP) and doping on critical current density (J), pinning force (F), irreversible magnetic-field (B), critical temperature (T), n value, and dominant pinning mechanism in MgB/Fe wires with ex situ MgB barrier. The results show that medium pressures (∼0.35 GPa) lead to high J in low and medium magnetic fields (0 T - 9 T). On the other hand, higher pressures (∼1 GPa) lead to enhanced J in high magnetic fields (above 9 T). Transport measurements show that CD, CR, and HIP have small effects on B and T, but CD, CR, HIP, and doping enhance J and F in in situ MgB wires with ex situ MgB barrier. Transport measurements on in situ undoped MgB wire with ex situ MgB barrier yield a J of about 100 A/mm at 4.2 K in 6 T, at 10 K in 4 T and at 20 K in 2 T. The results also show that cold drawing causes increase of n value

    Particulate Fillers in Thermoplastics

    The characteristics of particulate filled thermoplastics are determined by four factors: component properties, composition, structure and interfacial interactions. The most important filler characteristics are particle size, size distribution, specific surface area and particle shape, while the main matrix property is stiffness. Segregation, aggregation and the orientation of anisotropic particles determine structure. Interfacial interactions lead to the formation of a stiff interphase considerably influencing properties. Interactions are changed by surface modification, which must be always system specific and selected according to its goal. Under the effect of external load inhomogeneous stress distribution develops around heterogeneities, which initiate local micromechanical deformation processes determining the macroscopic properties of the composites

    In the years 1959-1990 429 birds on 30 species of Anseriformes were examined post mortem at ZOO Łódź. The helminths were found in 108 birds (25.17%) of 19 species. In infected birds there were found 4 species of trematodes: one of them, Catatropis verrueosa is in Poland new for Cygnus olor; 9 species of cestodes - 7 of them are in Poland new for examined hosts; namely: Drepanidotaenia lanceolata for Dendrocygna viduata, Cygnus atratus, Branta bernicla, and Anas platyrhynchos; Microsomacanthus paracompressus for Cygnus olor; Dicranotaenia coronula for Chloephaga picta and Cairina moschata; Cloacotaenia megalops for Branta bernicla, Tsehertkovilepis setigera for Cygnus olor, Anser indicus, Branta bernicla and Anas platyrhynchos; Fimbriaria fasciolaris for Cygnus olor and Chloephaga picta; Sobolevieanthus gracilis for Cygnus atratus, Chloephaga picta and Tadorna tadorna; 13 species of nematodes - 7 of them are in Poland new for examined hosts, namely: Cyathostoma variegatum for Cygnus atratus, Anser indicus and Anser caerulescens; Syngamus trachea for Anser indicus; Echinuria uncinata for Anser indicus; Ganguleterakis dispar for Cygnus melanocoryphus, Cygnus olor and Anser caerulescens; Pterothominx caudinflata for Anser indicus; Amidostomum ansersis for Cygnus olor and Branta bernicla; Capillaria anatis for Anas acuta. No acanthocephalans were observed

    A549 and MRC-5 cell aggregation in a microfluidic<i>Lab-on-a-chip</i>system

    In this paper, we present a culture of A549 and MRC-5 spheroids in a microfluidic system. The aim of our work was to develop a good lung cancer model for the evaluation of drug cytotoxicity. Our research was focused on determining the progress of cell aggregation depending on such factors as the depth of culture microwells in the microdevices, a different flow rate of the introduced cell suspensions, and the addition of collagen to cell suspensions. We showed that these factors had a significant influence on spheroid formation. It was found that both MRC-5 and A549 cells exhibited higher aggregation in 500 μm microwells. We also noticed that collagen needs to be added to A549 cells to form the spheroids. Optimizing the mentioned parameters allowed us to form 3D lung tissue models in the microfluidic system during the 10-day culture. This study indicates how important an appropriate selection of the specified parameters is (e.g., geometry of the microwells in the microsystem) to obtain the spheroids characterized by high viability in the microfluidic system
