Qualitative phytochemical analysis of some selected medicinal plants occurring in local area of Faisalabad, Pakistan
The Qualitative analysis is very essential to identify the phytochemical constituents present in medicinal plants. The medicinal value of plants is due to the presence of particular bioactive constituents. In present study qualitative analysis of seven medicinally important plants, namely Carica papaya (Papaya), Cichorium intybus (Cichory), Foeniculum vulgare (Fennel), Nicotiana tabacum (Tobacco), Rosa damascena (Red rose), Solanum nigrum (Makao) and Trachyspermum ammi (Ajwain) was done. Saponins, tannins, terpenoids, steroids, starch, total sugar, free reducing sugars, ascorbic acid, alkaloids, phenols, flavoniods and glycosoides were analyzed qualitatively by following the standard protocols. Rosa damascena and Foeniculum vulgare contained all tested constituents. Terpenoids and starch were present in all plant species except Nicotiana tobaccum. Saponins were present in all plants instead of Cichorium intybus
Patient Satisfaction in a Tertiary Care Government Hospital
OBJECTIVES:
To determine patient satisfaction in terms of various services such as ease of getting care, in-patient admission, waiting for check-up, staff interaction, medical care, cost of care, and cleanliness in a Tertiary Care Government Hospital.
METHODOLOGY:
The study design was cross sectional observational. A total of 200 patients meeting our inclusion criteria were enrolled through convenient sampling techniques in this research study. A well-designed questionnaire was used for data collection of admitted patients.
RESULTS:
Out of 200 patients, 96 (48%) male and 104 (47%) female patients were interviewed. 72% were satisfied with clinical care services, 14% had mixed views while 14% patients were not satisfied at all.
CONCLUSION:
Patients in general showed their satisfaction in some of the aspects, however, keeping in view the burden a public sector hospital absorbs on a daily basis, and it was imperative to receive unsatisfactory feedback from patients in most of the aspects. Thus, the results of my study recommend to the health care leaders to take practical steps to bring further improvement by developing a proper mechanism for the uplift of public sector hospitals
Monitoring of Cadmium and Lead Accumulation in Soil-Forage-Animal Continuum in Pasture Land Irrigated with Ground Water in Bhalwal, Punjab, Pakistan
Recent study was directed to check the accumulation of Cd and Pb in pasture land treated with ground water. In particular the transfer of cadmium and lead from soil to forages and in turn to animal (buffaloes) was conducted in Bhalwal, Punjab, Pakistan which comes under sub-tropical environmental conditions. The Cd and Pb concentration in selected samples was explored by atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AA-6300 Shimadzu Japan). The results depicted the concentration of cadmium in water, soil, forages, milk and hair of buffaloes was in the range of 0. 00320 – 0.00866 mgL-1, 1.9500 to 5.3000 mg/kg, 0.300 to 0.7100 mgkg-1, 0.1033 to 0.4133 mgL-1 and 0.037 to 0.0656 mg/kg, respectively. The lead concentration was ranged from 0.004 mg/L to 1.963 mgL-1 for water, 5.960 -13.600 mg/kg for soil, 0.293 to 2.570 mg/kg for forages, 0.2166 to 6.100 mg/L for milk and 0.0206 to 0.074 mg/kg for hair samples. Various indices (BCF, PLI, EF, DIM and HRI) were examined and results presented that PLI and EF of Cd, EF and HRI for Pb was above 1 indicating that metal was causing pollution while value of BCF and DIM was below one. If exposed for an extended period of time through feed, forages with a higher Cd and Pb content may harm animal\u27s cells, create respiratory issues and have an adverse effect on the animal\u27s kidney, liver and lungs
Triad of Intraspinal Meningioma, Schwannoma, and Ependymoma: Report of an Extremely Rare Case
Mixed tumors composed of schwannoma and meningioma are extremely rare and are usually associated with neurofibromatosis type 2. So far, all the cases reported have involved the cerebellopontine angle. Only 3 reported cases did not have a clear association with neurofibromatosis type 2. We report a mixed tumor comprising schwannoma admixed with meningioma and ependymoma in the cervical spinal cord of a 22-year-old male
Enhanced performance of mixed HWMA-CUSUM charts using auxiliary information.
Quality control (QC) is a systematic approach to ensuring that products and services meet customer requirements. It is an essential part of manufacturing and industry, as it helps to improve product quality, customer satisfaction, and profitability. Quality practitioners generally apply control charts to monitor the industrial process, among many other statistical process control tools, and to detect changes. New developments in control charting schemes for high-quality monitoring are the need of the hour. In this paper, we have enhanced the performance of the mixed homogeneously weighted moving average (HWMA)-cumulative sum (CUSUM) control chart by using the auxiliary information-based (AIB) regression estimator and named it MHCAIB. The proposed MHCAIB chart provided an unbiased and more efficient estimator of the process location. The various measures of the run length are used to judge the performance of the proposed MHCAIB and to compare it with existing AIB charts like CUSUMAIB, EWMAAIB, MECAIB (mixed AIB EWMA-CUSUM), and HWMAAIB. The Run length (RL) based performance comparisons indicate that the MHCAIB chart performs relatively better in monitoring small to moderate shifts over its competitor's charts. It is shown that the chart's performance improves with the increase in correlation between the study variable and the auxiliary variable. An illustrative application of the proposed MHCAIB chart is also provided to show its implementation in practical situations
