    Degeneration-Tuning: Using Scrambled Grid shield Unwanted Concepts from Stable Diffusion

    Owing to the unrestricted nature of the content in the training data, large text-to-image diffusion models, such as Stable Diffusion (SD), are capable of generating images with potentially copyrighted or dangerous content based on corresponding textual concepts information. This includes specific intellectual property (IP), human faces, and various artistic styles. However, Negative Prompt, a widely used method for content removal, frequently fails to conceal this content due to inherent limitations in its inference logic. In this work, we propose a novel strategy named \textbf{Degeneration-Tuning (DT)} to shield contents of unwanted concepts from SD weights. By utilizing Scrambled Grid to reconstruct the correlation between undesired concepts and their corresponding image domain, we guide SD to generate meaningless content when such textual concepts are provided as input. As this adaptation occurs at the level of the model's weights, the SD, after DT, can be grafted onto other conditional diffusion frameworks like ControlNet to shield unwanted concepts. In addition to qualitatively showcasing the effectiveness of our DT method in protecting various types of concepts, a quantitative comparison of the SD before and after DT indicates that the DT method does not significantly impact the generative quality of other contents. The FID and IS scores of the model on COCO-30K exhibit only minor changes after DT, shifting from 12.61 and 39.20 to 13.04 and 38.25, respectively, which clearly outperforms the previous methods

    Identify the radiotherapy-induced abnormal changes in the patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma

    Radiotherapy (RT) is the standard treatment for nasopharyngeal carcinoma, which often causes inevitable brain injury in the process of treatment. The majority of patients has no abnormal signal or density change of the conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) examination in the long-term follow-up after radiation therapy. However, when there is a visible CT and conventional MR imaging changes, the damage often has been severe and lack of effective treatments, seriously influencing the prognosis of patients. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the abnormal changes in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients after RT. In the present study, we exploited the machine learning framework which contained two parts: feature extraction and classification to automatically detect the brain injury. Our results showed that the method could effectively identify the abnormal regions reduced by radiotherapy. The highest classification accuracy was 82.5 % in the abnormal brain regions. The parahippocampal gyrus was the highest accuracy region, which suggested that the parahippocampal gyrus could be most sensitive to radiotherapy and involved in the pathogenesis of radiotherapy-induced brain injury in NPC patients

    Impact of multiple cardiovascular medications on mortality after an incidence of ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack

    BACKGROUND: To manage the risk factors and to improve clinical outcomes, patients with stroke commonly receive multiple cardiovascular medications. However, there is a lack of evidence on the optimum combination of medication therapy in the primary care setting after ischemic stroke. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of multiple cardiovascular medications on long-term survival after an incident stroke event (ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA)). METHODS: This study consisted of 52,619 patients aged 45 and above with an incident stroke event between 2007 and 2016 in The Health Improvement Network database. We estimated the risk of all-cause mortality in patients with multiple cardiovascular medications versus monotherapy using a marginal structural model. RESULTS: During an average follow-up of 3.6 years, there were 9230 deaths (7635 in multiple cardiovascular medication groups and 1595 in the monotherapy group). Compared with patients prescribed monotherapy only, the HRs of mortality were 0.82 (95% CI 0.75-0.89) for two medications, 0.65 (0.59-0.70) for three medications, 0.61 (0.56-0.67) for four medications, 0.60 (0.54-0.66) for five medications and 0.66 (0.59-0.74) for ≥ six medications. Patients with any four classes of antiplatelet agents (APAs), lipid-regulating medications (LRMs), angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs)/angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), beta-blockers, diuretics and calcium channel blockers (CCBs) had the lowest risk of mortality (HR 0.51, 95% CI 0.46-0.57) versus any one class. The combination containing APAs, LRMs, ACEIs/ARBs and CCBs was associated with a 61% (95% CI 53-68%) lower risk of mortality compared with APAs alone. CONCLUSION: Our results suggested that combination therapy of four or five cardiovascular medications may be optimal to improve long-term survival after incident ischemic stroke or TIA. APAs, LRMs, ACEIs/ARBs and CCBs were the optimal constituents of combination therapy in the present study

    Novel characterization discoveries of ferroptosis-associated molecules in COAD microenvironment based TCGA data

    Background and Objective: One of the most recent forms of programmed cell death, ferroptosis, is crucial in tumorigenesis. Ferroptosis is characterized by iron-dependent oxidative destruction of cellular membranes following the antioxidant system’s failure. However, it is unknown whether ferroptosis-related genes (FRGs) are associated with colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) metastasis, immune cell infiltration, and oxidative stress in COAD. The current study concentrated on FRGs expression in colon cancer metastasis, their relationship to immune cell infiltration (ICI), and potential pathological pathways in COAD.Methods and Results: Clinical information and mRNA expression patterns for patients with COAD metastasis were obtained from the public TCGA database. Patients with low mRNA levels showed good overall survival than patients with high mRNA levels. The genomic-clinicopathologic nomogram was subsequently created by combining risk score and clinicopathological features. Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator have shown a 4 gene signature that can stratify cancer patients into high-risk versus low-risk. These four FRGs were found to be significantly linked to the overall survival of COAD patients and predicted high risk score. Next, age, stage, and PTNM were combined in univariate and multivariate cox regression models to perform a filtering procedure. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and calibration curves indicated that constructed signature model exhibited high prediction accuracy and clinical relevance in COAD. ARID3A showed a strong negative correlation with a wide range of immune tumour-infiltrating cells in COAD microenvironment. According to the single sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA) results, FRGs are involved in variety of pathological pathways including PI3K-AKT-mTOR pathway, reactive oxygen species (ROS) pathway, response to hypoxia pathway, and other inflammation related pathways. Moreover, dysregulation of FRGs in COAD patients showed a significance correlation with wide range of miRNAs and transcription factors (TFs).Conclusion: We identified new diagnostic biomarkers and established prognostic models for ferroptosis related programmed cell death in COAD metastasis. FRGs may improve tumor cell survival by activating the TGFB pathway, which can stimulate ROS production, accelerates ECM breakdown, and promote tumor progression and invasion. Genes implicated in ferroptosis, as revealed by the Kaplan Meier and a genomic-clinicopathologic nomogram, are potential therapeutic targets and prognosis indications for metastasis COAD patients

    Milestones in autonomous driving and intelligent vehicles: survey of surveys

    Interest in autonomous driving (AD) and intelligent vehicles (IVs) is growing at a rapid pace due to the convenience, safety, and economic benefits. Although a number of surveys have reviewed research achievements in this field, they are still limited in specific tasks, lack of systematic summary and research directions in the future. Here we propose a Survey of Surveys (SoS) for total technologies of AD and IVs that reviews the history, summarizes the milestones, and provides the perspectives, ethics, and future research directions. To our knowledge, this article is the first SoS with milestones in AD and IVs, which constitutes our complete research work together with two other technical surveys. We anticipate that this article will bring novel and diverse insights to researchers and abecedarians, and serve as a bridge between past and future

    Robust estimation of bacterial cell count from optical density

    Optical density (OD) is widely used to estimate the density of cells in liquid culture, but cannot be compared between instruments without a standardized calibration protocol and is challenging to relate to actual cell count. We address this with an interlaboratory study comparing three simple, low-cost, and highly accessible OD calibration protocols across 244 laboratories, applied to eight strains of constitutive GFP-expressing E. coli. Based on our results, we recommend calibrating OD to estimated cell count using serial dilution of silica microspheres, which produces highly precise calibration (95.5% of residuals <1.2-fold), is easily assessed for quality control, also assesses instrument effective linear range, and can be combined with fluorescence calibration to obtain units of Molecules of Equivalent Fluorescein (MEFL) per cell, allowing direct comparison and data fusion with flow cytometry measurements: in our study, fluorescence per cell measurements showed only a 1.07-fold mean difference between plate reader and flow cytometry data
