The Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0) has created a rebellion in traditional factories by introducing the Internet of Things (IoT) and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). This revolution has caused increased automation and customized production, which has occurred through a synergy between customer demands, stocks, and supply chains. This synergy has also exposed factories to potential cyber-attack threats. Although there is extensive literature available on the topic of cyber security, however, business owners still assume cyber security as business preservation. This study sheds light on a step-by-step cyber security aspect of manufacturing factories with Industry 4.0. The study presented possible vulnerabilities and threats to the networks and devices used in a factory by dividing them into various common parameters. We reviewed the proposed literature and provided solutions to Industry 4.0 factories regarding cybersecurity challenges. The reviewed articles are divided into four segments, starting from the purpose of the proposal, the adopted methodology, the proposed cyber security solution, and finally the author’s evaluation. The study reports on a state-of-the-art cyber security solution for Industry 4.0 factories. The characterization of cybersecurity is also proposed concerning management aspects, by showing that every level of organization has its role. The study also highlighted that cybersecurity could play a crucial role in the creation of value for businesses. It is suggested that despite adding an expert system paradigm for cyber security solutions, factories should also adopt new innovative ways, such as machine learning, digital twins, and honeypots. This review highlights that cyber security is not only a technical concern, but it also needs support from multiple actors of the organization to add it to the comprehensive strategy of an Industry 4.0 factory, and every user must be trained and aware of the cybersecurity risks. © 2022 Curran Associates Inc.. Purpose. Despite widespread recognition of the importance of mindfulness in organizational science literature, little is known about how mindfulness motivates individuals to configure information processing and team member exchange relationships to increase creative process engagement. Drawing on motivated information processing theory, this study conceptualizes and empirically examines whether and how mindfulness motivates individuals toward creative process engagement. Design/methodology/approach. The authors collected data through an online survey from 311 respondents working in the Research and Development (R&D) departments of organizations in multiple industries in Pakistan. For analytical purposes, the authors have applied the structural equation modeling technique. Findings. This study advances a different view of individual mindfulness on the creative process engagement in the following ways. First, mindfulness enables individuals to self-regulate in specific situations and become effective in fostering creative process engagement. Second, this study extends research on relational information processing by linking it to mindfulness and creative process engagement. Relational information processing partially mediates the relationship between mindfulness and creative process engagement. Third, this study highlights that mindfulness motivates individuals to focus more on developing quality working relationships, but they seem less willing to participate in idea generation and problem-solving solutions. Originality/value. The study findings provide implications for research on mindfulness, creativity and motivated information processing to enhance individuals’ creative process engagements. The authors also discuss the implications for executives on the relational and creative benefits of mindfulness

Industry 4.0 is characterized by the smart business developments, application of cyber-physical systems, internet of things (IOTs), excessive use of big data, etc. In other words, it is about computerization and digitization of processes through the above-mentioned technologies. Industry 4.0 offers more effective and efficient resources to regulate the production system as compared to the out-dated centralized system. Today’s economy is a data-driven economy and data is the key input to industry 4.0 operations. In the industry 4.0 era companies are bombarded with huge volume and variety of structured and unstructured data with vast velocity. Data has become one of the most significant strategic assets for data-driven companies and subsequent resource-based view (RBV) for sustainable competitive advantage companies require to maintain the rarity, inimitability, value, and organization of data as a strategic resource. This condition makes it very crucial to the data protection, steadfast technology, and secure access has become the main part of selling strategies of companies sell; trust is becoming a very serious factor of commercial dealings. It is an old thought that cybersecurity manages only cyber risks but it also manages the trust. The firms are exposed to cyber risks beyond their direct control and this has resulted from complex digital value chains. There is a possibility of hefty damage due to cyber-attacks in terms of continuous business operations, reputational harm and stealing of confidential information. This paper aims to present a viewpoint on the best appropriate cybersecurity practices to facilitate the businesses to match the stride of industry 4.0. The recent studies discuss only the technological aspect of cybersecurity. This paper is one of the early attempts to draw attention to the important role of cybersecurity management practices and identifying the most relevant challenges of managing cybersecurity in the context of industry 4.0. © 2020 Curran Associates Inc.. No full text
This study examines the role of big data contractual and relational governance in big data decision-making performance of firms based in China. It investigates the mediation of big data analytics (BDA) capability in the association of contractual and relational governance with decision-making performance. Furthermore, moderating role of data-driven culture in the relationship of BDA capability and decision-making performance is examined. Data are collected from 108 Chinese firms engaged in big data-related activities. Structural equation modelling is employed to test the hypotheses. This study contributes towards the literature on big data management and governance mechanisms, by establishing the relationship of decision-making performance with big data contractual and relational governance directly and through the mediation of BDA capabilities. It also contributes towards knowledge based dynamic capabilities (KBDCs) view of firms, arguing that dynamic capabilities such as BDA capabilities can be influenced through knowledge sources and activities. We add to the discussions on whether contractual and relational governance are alternatives or they complement each other, by establishing the moderating role of big data relational governance in the relationship of contractual governance and decision-making performance. Finally, we argue that social capital can enhance KBDCs through contractual and relational governance in big data context

    No full text
Drawing upon insights from the trust literature, we conducted two empirical surveys with the front-line employees of firms in Pakistan investigating the factors influencing cognitive trust in artificial intelligence (AI). Study1 consisted of 46 in-depth interviews aimed at exploring factors influencing cognitive trust. Based on the findings of Study 1, we developed a framework to enhance employees’ cognitive trust in AI. We then conducted a quantitative survey (study 2) with 314 employees to validate the proposed model. The findings suggest that AI features positively influence the cognitive trust of employees, while work routine disruptions have negative impact on cognitive trust in AI. The effectiveness of data governance was also found to facilitate employees' trust in data governance and subsequently, employees' cognitive trust in AI. We contribute to the technology trust literature, especial in developing economics. We discuss the implications of our findings for both research and practice. © 2023 The Author
