Offloading in Software Defined Network at Edge with Information Asymmetry: A Contract Theoretical Approach

The proliferation of highly capable mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets has significantly increased the demand for wireless access. Software defined network (SDN) at edge is viewed as one promising technology to simplify the traffic offloading process for current wireless networks. In this paper, we investigate the incentive problem in SDN-at-edge of how to motivate a third party access points (APs) such as WiFi and smallcells to offload traffic for the central base stations (BSs). The APs will only admit the traffic from the BS under the precondition that their own traffic demand is satisfied. Under the information asymmetry that the APs know more about own traffic demands, the BS needs to distribute the payment in accordance with the APs' idle capacity to maintain a compatible incentive. First, we apply a contract-theoretic approach to model and analyze the service trading between the BS and APs. Furthermore, other two incentive mechanisms: optimal discrimination contract and linear pricing contract are introduced to serve as the comparisons of the anti adverse selection contract. Finally, the simulation results show that the contract can effectively incentivize APs' participation and offload the cellular network traffic. Furthermore, the anti adverse selection contract achieves the optimal outcome under the information asymmetry scenario.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figure

Background Free-viewpoint video (FVV) is processed video content in which viewers can freely select the viewing position and angle. FVV delivers an improved visual experience and can also help synthesize special effects and virtual reality content. In this paper, a complete FVV system is proposed to interactively control the viewpoints of video relay programs through multimedia terminals such as computers and tablets. Methods The hardware of the FVV generation system is a set of synchronously controlled cameras, and the software generates videos in novel viewpoints from the captured video using view interpolation. The interactive interface is designed to visualize the generated video in novel viewpoints and enable the viewpoint to be changed interactively. Results Experiments show that our system can synthesize plausible videos in intermediate viewpoints with a view range of up to 180°

DICE, an efficient system for iterative genomic editing in human pluripotent stem cells

To reveal the full potential of human pluripotent stem cells, new methods for rapid, site-specific genomic engineering are needed. Here, we describe a system for precise genetic modification of human embryonic stem cells (ESCs) and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). We identified a novel human locus, H11, located in a safe, intergenic, transcriptionally active region of chromosome 22, as the recipient site, to provide robust, ubiquitous expression of inserted genes. Recipient cell lines were established by site-specific placement of a ‘landing pad’ cassette carrying attP sites for phiC31 and Bxb1 integrases at the H11 locus by spontaneous or TALEN-assisted homologous recombination. Dual integrase cassette exchange (DICE) mediated by phiC31 and Bxb1 integrases was used to insert genes of interest flanked by phiC31 and Bxb1 attB sites at the H11 locus, replacing the landing pad. This system provided complete control over content, direction and copy number of inserted genes, with a specificity of 100%. A series of genes, including mCherry and various combinations of the neural transcription factors LMX1a, FOXA2 and OTX2, were inserted in recipient cell lines derived from H9 ESC, as well as iPSC lines derived from a Parkinson’s disease patient and a normal sibling control. The DICE system offers rapid, efficient and precise gene insertion in ESC and iPSC and is particularly well suited for repeated modifications of the same locus

    MAP: Multimodal Uncertainty-Aware Vision-Language Pre-training Model

Multimodal semantic understanding often has to deal with uncertainty, which means the obtained messages tend to refer to multiple targets. Such uncertainty is problematic for our interpretation, including inter- and intra-modal uncertainty. Little effort has studied the modeling of this uncertainty, particularly in pre-training on unlabeled datasets and fine-tuning in task-specific downstream datasets. In this paper, we project the representations of all modalities as probabilistic distributions via a Probability Distribution Encoder (PDE) by utilizing sequence-level interactions. Compared to the existing deterministic methods, such uncertainty modeling can convey richer multimodal semantic information and more complex relationships. Furthermore, we integrate uncertainty modeling with popular pre-training frameworks and propose suitable pre-training tasks: Distribution-based Vision-Language Contrastive learning (D-VLC), Distribution-based Masked Language Modeling (D-MLM), and Distribution-based Image-Text Matching (D-ITM). The fine-tuned models are applied to challenging downstream tasks, including image-text retrieval, visual question answering, visual reasoning, and visual entailment, and achieve state-of-the-art results.Comment: CVPR 2023 accep

Nonlinear dynamics study of a high-temperature rotor-bearing-seal system in gas turbine

Most of the major faults in gas turbines often originate from the rotor shaft. Some of these faults could result to misalignment, imbalance, crack, rub-impact and eccentricity. This study analyzes nonlinear factors such as lube-film surge and thermal-stress. Seal and bearing quality significantly affect the performance of a rotor system. The nonlinear dynamic characteristics of a high-temperature rotor–bearing–seal coupled system are investigated. Dynamic trajectories, Poincaré maps, frequency spectra diagrams are used to analyze the features of the rotor-bearing-seal coupled system in terms of various parameters. Several nonlinear phenomena in the high-temperature rotor–bearing–seal coupled system, such as periodic, double-periodic, multi-periodic, and quasi-periodic motion are investigated. Through these curves and the program, the dynamic characteristics of gas turbine rotors could be easily and accurately calculated. To validate this method, the critical speed of a real rotor of an actual gas turbine was calculated by means of the program and curves. The results are consistent with the measured data and may contribute to further understanding the nonlinear dynamics of the high-temperature rotor-bearing-seal coupled system
