Within the past ten years many new hadrons states were observed experimentally, some of which do not fit into the conventional quark model. I will talk about the few-body systems composed of heavy quarks, including the charmonium-like states and some loosely bound states.Comment: Plenary talk at the 20th International IUPAP Conference on Few-Body Problems in Physics, to appear in Few Body Systems (2013

Image-based 3D Scene Reconstruction and Rescue Simulation Framework for Railway Accidents

    Get PDF
Although the railway transport is regarded as a relatively safe transportation tool, many railway accidents have still happened worldwide. In this research, an image-based 3D scene reconstruction framework was proposed to help railway accident emergency rescues. Based on the improved constrained non-linear least square optimization, the framework can automatically model the accident scene with only one panorama in a short time. We embedded the self-developed global terrain module into the commercial visualization and physics engine, which makes the commercial engine can be used to render the static scene at anywhere and simulate the dynamic rescue process respectively. In addition, a Head Mounted Device (HMD) was integrated into this framework to allow users to verify their rescue plan and review previous railway accidents in an immersive environment

Possible Interpretations of DsJ+(2632)D_{sJ}^+(2632) If It Really Exists

We analyze various possible interpretations of the narrow state DsJ+(2632)D_{sJ}^+(2632) observed by SELEX Collaboration recently, which lies above threshold and has abnormal decay pattern. These interpretations include: (1) several versions of tetraquarks; (2) conventional csˉc\bar s meson such as the first radial excitation of Ds(2112)D_s(2112) with abnormally large SU(3) symmetry breaking; (3) conventional csˉc\bar s meson with abnormally large η1\eta_1 coupling; (4) heavy hybrid meson. We discuss the physical implications of each interpretation. For example, if the existence of DsJ+(2632)D_{sJ}^+(2632) is confirmed as the first radial excitation of Ds(2112)D_s(2112) by other experiments, it will be helpful to look for (1) its SU(3) flavor partners DJ0,+(2530)D_{J}^{0,+}(2530); (2) its B-meson analogues BJ0,+(5840),BsJ+(5940)B_{J}^{0,+}(5840), B_{sJ}^+(5940); (3) S-wave two pion decay modes

    Get PDF
Leaf δ13C is widely used to explain plant strategies related to resource availability in different environments. To understand the coupled response of leaf δ13C to precipitation, temperature and the relationship between leaf δ13C and leaf traits in arid ecosystems, the leaf δ13C and leaf traits (leaf size (LS), leaf length (LL), leaf width (LW), leaf length to width ratio (L:W), specific leaf area (SLA) and mass-based leaf nitrogen concentration (Nmass)) of Nitraria tangutorum Bobr. under simulated increasing precipitation (PGS) and ambient temperature (TGS) in plant growing season from 2008 to 2010 and the relationships between leaf δ13C and leaf traits were investigated in the arid region (Dengkou and Minqin) of northwestern China. Our results showed that LS, LW, LL, SLA and Nmass significantly increased with increasing PGS, but had downward tendencies with increasing TGS although the majority of the negative relationships between leaf traits and TGS were not obvious in Minqin. At the two study sites, L:W increased simultaneously with increasing PGS and TGS. There was a shift in the negative leaf δ13C-PGS relationship across Minqin and Dengkou, which conduce to the lacking effect of precipitation on leaf δ13C across the two sites and higher leaf δ13C in lower precipitation fields in Minqin. Across Minqin and Dengkou, PGS could only explain 14% of the variation in leaf δ13C. The combinations of PGS and TGS could explain 64% of the variation in leaf δ13C. Leaf traits (LW and L:W) could be used to further improve the estimation of leaf δ13C. The combinations of PGS, TGS, LW and L:W could explain 84 % of the variation in leaf δ13C. Our study demonstrated the importance of leaf traits in exploring the responses of leaf δ13C to global changes in arid ecosystems.Fil: Xin, Z.M.. Chinese Academy of Forestry. The molecular systems composed of the charmed mesons in the HSˉ+h.c.H\bar{S}+h.c. doublet

We study the possible heavy molecular states composed of a pair of charm mesons in the H and S doublets. Since the P-wave charm-strange mesons Ds0(2317)D_{s0}(2317) and Ds1(2460)D_{s1}(2460) are extremely narrow, the future experimental observation of the possible heavy molecular states composed of Ds/DsD_s/D_s^\ast and Ds0(2317)/Ds1(2460)D_{s0}(2317)/D_{s1}(2460) may be feasible if they really exist. Especially the possible JPC=1J^{PC}=1^{--} states may be searched for via the initial state radiation technique.Comment: 42 pages, 4 tables, 31 figures. Evolution of a functionally intact but antigenically distinct DENV fusion loop

    Get PDF
A hallmark of dengue virus (DENV) pathogenesis is the potential for antibody-dependent enhancement, which is associated with deadly DENV secondary infection, complicates the identification of correlates of protection, and negatively impacts the safety and efficacy of DENV vaccines. Antibody-dependent enhancement is linked to antibodies targeting the fusion loop (FL) motif of the envelope protein, which is completely conserved in mosquito-borne flaviviruses and required for viral entry and fusion. In the current study, we utilized saturation mutagenesis and directed evolution to engineer a functional variant with a mutated FL (D2-FL), which is not neutralized by FL-targeting monoclonal antibodies. The FL mutations were combined with our previously evolved prM cleavage site to create a mature version of D2-FL (D2-FLM), which evades both prM- and FL-Abs but retains sensitivity to other type-specific and quaternary cross-reactive (CR) Abs. CR serum from heterotypic (DENV4)-infected non-human primates (NHP) showed lower neutralization titers against D2-FL and D2-FLM than isogenic wildtype DENV2 while similar neutralization titers were observed in serum from homotypic (DENV2)-infected NHP. We propose D2-FL and D2-FLM as valuable tools to delineate CR Ab subtypes in serum as well as an exciting platform for safer live-attenuated DENV vaccines suitable for naïve individuals and children

Interface electronic states and boundary conditions for envelope functions

The envelope-function method with generalized boundary conditions is applied to the description of localized and resonant interface states. A complete set of phenomenological conditions which restrict the form of connection rules for envelope functions is derived using the Hermiticity and symmetry requirements. Empirical coefficients in the connection rules play role of material parameters which characterize an internal structure of every particular heterointerface. As an illustration we present the derivation of the most general connection rules for the one-band effective mass and 4-band Kane models. The conditions for the existence of Tamm-like localized interface states are established. It is shown that a nontrivial form of the connection rules can also result in the formation of resonant states. The most transparent manifestation of such states is the resonant tunneling through a single-barrier heterostructure.Comment: RevTeX4, 11 pages, 5 eps figures, submitted to Phys.Rev.

A Naturally Narrow Positive Parity Theta^+

We present a consistent color-flavor-spin-orbital wave function for a positive parity Theta^+ that naturally explains the observed narrowness of the state. The wave function is totally symmetric in its flavor-spin part and totally antisymmetric in its color-orbital part. If flavor-spin interactions dominate, this wave function renders the positive parity Theta^+ lighter than its negative parity counterpart. We consider decays of the Theta^+ and compute the overlap of this state with the kinematically allowed final states. Our results are numerically small. We note that dynamical correlations between quarks are not necessary to obtain narrow pentaquark widths.Comment: 10 pages, 1 figure, Revtex4, two-column format, version to be published in Phys. Rev.
