Structure of classical (finite and affine) W-algebras
First, we derive an explicit formula for the Poisson bracket of the classical finite W- Algebra W[superscript fin] (g, f), the algebra of polynomial functions on the Slodowy slice associated to a simple Lie algebra g and its nilpotent element f . On the other hand, we produce an explicit set of generators and we derive an explicit formula for the Poisson vertex algebra structure of the classical affine W- Algebra W(g, f). As an immediate consequence, we obtain a Poisson algebra isomorphism between W[superscript fin] (g, f) and the Zhu algebra of W(g, f).We also study the generalized Miura map for classical W- Algebras. Improved Online Algorithm for Weighted Flow Time
We discuss one of the most fundamental scheduling problem of processing jobs
on a single machine to minimize the weighted flow time (weighted response
time). Our main result is a -competitive algorithm, where is the
maximum-to-minimum processing time ratio, improving upon the
-competitive algorithm of Chekuri, Khanna and Zhu (STOC 2001). We
also design a -competitive algorithm, where is the
maximum-to-minimum density ratio of jobs. Finally, we show how to combine these
results with the result of Bansal and Dhamdhere (SODA 2003) to achieve a
-competitive algorithm (where is the
maximum-to-minimum weight ratio), without knowing in advance. As shown
by Bansal and Chan (SODA 2009), no constant-competitive algorithm is achievable
for this problem.Comment: 20 pages, 4 figure
Legacy Mercury Re-emission and Subsurface Migration at Contaminated Sites Constrained by Hg Isotopes and Chemical Speciation
The re-emission and subsurface migration of legacy mercury (Hg) are not well understood due to limited knowledge of the driving processes. To investigate these processes at a decommissioned chlor-alkali plant, we used mercury stable isotopes and chemical speciation analysis. The isotopic composition of volatilized Hg(0) was lighter compared to the bulk total Hg (THg) pool in salt-sludge and adjacent surface soil with mean epsilon Hg-202(Hg(0)-THg) values of -3.29 and -2.35 parts per thousand, respectively. Hg(0) exhibited dichotomous directions ((EHgHg(0)-THg)-Hg-199 = 0.17 and -0.16 parts per thousand) of mass-independent fractionation (MIF) depending on the substrate from which it was emitted. We suggest that the positive MIF enrichment during Hg(0) re-emission from salt-sludge was overall controlled by the photoreduction of Hg(II) primarily ligated by Cl- and/or the evaporation of liquid Hg(0). In contrast, O-bonded Hg(II) species were more important in the adjacent surface soils. The migration of Hg from salt-sludge to subsurface soil associated with selective Hg(II) partitioning and speciation transformation resulted in deep soils depleted in heavy isotopes (delta Hg-202 = -2.5 parts per thousand) and slightly enriched in odd isotopes (Delta Hg-199 = 0.1 parts per thousand). When tracing sources using Hg isotopes, it is important to exercise caution, particularly when dealing with mobilized Hg, as this fraction represents only a small portion of the sources
A commutant realization of W^(2)_n at critical level
For n\geq 2, there is a free field realization of the affine vertex
superalgebra A associated to psl(n|n) at critical level inside the
bc\beta\gamma system W of rank n^2. We show that the commutant C=Com(A,W) is
purely bosonic and is freely generated by n+1 fields. We identify the Zhu
algebra of C with the ring of invariant differential operators on the space of
n\times n matrices under SL_n \times SL_n, and we classify the irreducible,
admissible C-modules with finite dimensional graded pieces. For n\leq 4, C is
isomorphic to the W_n^{(2)}-algebra at critical level, and we conjecture that
this holds for all n.Comment: Some corrections and expository improvements, references added, final
