    Annealing study of A1/GaSb contact with the use of doppler broadening technique

    Using a monoenergetic positron beam, annealing study of the Al/n-GaSb system was performed by monitoring the Doppler broadening of the annihilation radiation as a function of the positron implanting energy. The S-parameter against positron energy data was successfully fitted by a three-layer model (Al/interface/GaSb). The annealing out of the open volume defects in the polycrystalline Al layer was revealed by the decrease in the S-parameter and the increase in the effective diffusion length of the Al layer. For the as-deposited samples, a∼5 nm interfacial region with S-parameter larger than those of the Al overlayer and the bulk was identified. After the 400^ºC annealing, this interfacial region extends to over 40 nm and its S-parameter dramatically drops. This is possibly due to the new phase formation at the interface. Annealing behaviors of SB and L+,B of the GaSb bulk showed the annealing out of positron traps (possibly the VGa-related defect) at 250ºC. However, a further annealing at 400ºC induces the formation of positron traps, which are possibly of another kind of VGa-related defect and the positron shallow trap GaSb antisite.published_or_final_versionProceedings of the 35th Polish Seminar on Positron Annihilation (PSPA), Turawa, Poland, 20-24 September 2004.     Evaluation of analgesic, anti-inflammatoryand antipyretic activities of the ethanol extract from Speranskia tuberculate

    Background: Speranskia tuberculata (Bunge) Baill, has been used to prevent and treat many diseases in Chinese folk medicine, nevertheless, few investigations had been reported.Materials and Methods: Animals were orally administered STE at the doses of 125, 250, 500 mg/kg. The analgesic effect was estimated in mice by hot-plate test and the acetic acid-induced writhing test. The anti-inflammatory effect was assessed using rat paw edema model elicited by fresh egg white and the mouse ear edema model caused by dimethylbenzene. The antipyretic effect was determined using the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced rat fever model. In addition, the acute oral toxicity of STE was studied.Results: STE significantly and dose-dependently reduced the number of writhing responses in mice, prolonged reaction time of mice against heat stimulation, depressed egg white-induced paw edema in rats and the dimethylbenzene-caused ear edema in mice, but did not alleviate LPS-induced pyrexia in rats. No death of mice was observed when orally administered STE up to 52.8 g/kg (approximately 2080 times of clinical dose used).Conclusion: STE possesses evident analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities, but has no antipyretic effect. Furthermore STE has a favorable safety. These findings support the applications of Speranskia tuberculata as an analgesic and anti-inflammatory drug in folk medicine.Key Words: Herb, pain, inflammation, Pyrexia, Safet

    Late Permian rifting of the South China Craton caused by the Emeishan mantle plume?

    Stratigraphic relationships and bulk-rock geochemical data indicate that Upper Permian metabasalts in the Songpan-Ganzi and Yidun terranes, on the eastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau, are part of the Emeishan large igneous province, which is believed to have formed from the Emeishan mantle plume. Eruption of the Emeishan basalts at 260 Ma was coincident with rifting of the western margin of the South China Craton to form the Songpan-Ganzi ocean basin. The spatial and temporal coincidence between basalt eruption and continental rifting, as well as regional doming prior to eruption, suggest that continental break-up was a response to the Late Permian Emeishan plume. The Songpan-Ganzi ocean basin was rapidly filled with Triassic flysch deposits, then deformed and uplifted during Mesozoic collision between the North China and South China Blocks and the Tertiary collision of India and Eurasia.published_or_final_versio

Dosing adjustments (± 2.5 mg) were made based on the response of the preceding patient using the up-and-down allocation technique. The ED50 and ED95 were calculated using a sequential formula and probit regression. Probit regression was also used to assess the relative potency of remimazolam between groups. Sedation levels were evaluated using the Modified Observer’s Assessment of Alertness/Sedation (MOAA/S) scale.Results: The ED50 for remimazolam was significantly lower in Group R+F compared to Group R (p= 0.007). Probit regression estimated the ED50 and ED95 values for Group R+F at 4.878 mg (95% CI, 3.845– 5.859) and 8.184 mg (95% CI, 6.636– 13.546), respectively. In contrast, Group R demonstrated ED50 and ED95 values of 6.733 mg (95% CI, 5.533– 8.068) and 11.298 mg (95% CI, 9.101– 19.617), respectively.Conclusion: This study provides compelling evidence that the administration of 1 μg/kg of fentanyl significantly reduces the required sedative dose of remimazolam by approximately 30% during induction in elderly patients. Importantly, the concomitant use of 1 μg/kg of fentanyl does not increase the risk of adverse effects such as hypotension, respiratory depression.Keywords: remimazolam, fentanyl, effective dose, elderl
