Traveling waves of a delayed epidemic model with spatial diffusion

In this paper, we study the existence and non-existence of traveling waves for a delayed epidemic model with spatial diffusion. That is, by using Schauder's fixed-point theorem and the construction of Lyapunov functional, we prove that when the basic reproduction number R0>1R_0>1, there exists a critical number c>0c^*>0 such that for all c>cc>c^*, the model admits a non-trivial and positive traveling wave solution with wave speed cc. And for c<cc<c^*, by the theory of asymptotic spreading, we further show that the model admits no non-trivial and non-negative traveling wave solution. And also, some numerical simulations are performed to illustrate our analytic results

Two types of zero Hall phenomena in few-layer MnBi2_2Te4_4

The van der Waals antiferromagnetic topological insulator MnBi2_2Te4_4 represents a promising platform for exploring the layer-dependent magnetism and topological states of matter. Despite the realization of several quantized phenomena, such as the quantum anomalous Hall effect and the axion insulator state, the recently observed discrepancies between magnetic and transport properties have aroused controversies concerning the topological nature of MnBi2_2Te4_4 in the ground state. Here, we demonstrate the existence of two distinct types of zero Hall phenomena in few-layer MnBi2_2Te4_4. In addition to the robust zero Hall plateau associated with the axion insulator state, an unexpected zero Hall phenomenon also occurs in some odd-number-septuple layer devices. Importantly, a statistical survey of the optical contrast in more than 200 MnBi2_2Te4_4 reveals that such accidental zero Hall phenomenon arises from the reduction of effective thickness during fabrication process, a factor that was rarely noticed in previous studies of 2D materials. Our finding not only resolves the controversies on the relation between magnetism and anomalous Hall effect in MnBi2_2Te4_4, but also highlights the critical issues concerning the fabrication and characterization of devices based on 2D materials.Comment: 21 pages, 4 figure

A compendium of genetic regulatory effects across pig tissues

The Farm Animal Genotype-Tissue Expression (FarmGTEx) project has been established to develop a public resource of genetic regulatory variants in livestock, which is essential for linking genetic polymorphisms to variation in phenotypes, helping fundamental biological discovery and exploitation in animal breeding and human biomedicine. Here we show results from the pilot phase of PigGTEx by processing 5,457 RNA-sequencing and 1,602 whole-genome sequencing samples passing quality control from pigs. We build a pig genotype imputation panel and associate millions of genetic variants with five types of transcriptomic phenotypes in 34 tissues. We evaluate tissue specificity of regulatory effects and elucidate molecular mechanisms of their action using multi-omics data. Leveraging this resource, we decipher regulatory mechanisms underlying 207 pig complex phenotypes and demonstrate the similarity of pigs to humans in gene expression and the genetic regulation behind complex phenotypes, supporting the importance of pigs as a human biomedical model.</p

Here, within the Farm animal Genotype-Tissue Expression (FarmGTEx) project, we build the PigBiobank (http://pigbiobank.farmgtex.org) to systematically investigate the relationships among genomic variants, regulatory elements, genes, molecular networks, tissues and complex traits in pigs. This first version of the PigBiobank curates 71 885 pigs with both genotypes and phenotypes from over 100 pig breeds worldwide, covering 264 distinct complex traits. The PigBiobank has the following functions: (i) imputed sequence-based genotype-phenotype associations via a standardized and uniform pipeline, (ii) molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying trait-associations via integrating multi-omics data, (iii) cross-species gene mapping of complex traits via transcriptome-wide association studies, and (iv) high-quality results display and visualization. The PigBiobank will be updated timely with the development of the FarmGTEx-PigGTEx project, serving as an open-access and easy-to-use resource for genetically and biologically dissecting complex traits in pigs and translating the findings to other species.National Natural Science Foundation of China [32022078]; National Key R&D Program of China [2022YFF1000900]; Local Innovative and Research Teams Project of Guangdong Province [2019BT02N630]; China Agriculture Research System [CARS-35]. Static random‐access memory with embedded arithmetic logic units for in‐memory computing and ternary content addressable memory operation

    No full text
Abstract In‐memory computing (IMC) is a novel computing architecture that presents considerable potential in solving the data transmission and energy consumption problems faced by the von Neumann architecture. The compound Boolean logic operation (CBLO) is a crucial component of most advanced computing platforms. This study presents a static random‐access memory array structure comprising configurable embedded arithmetic logic units (ALUs), which can realize four types of CBLOs within a single cycle. The proposed structure can also form the ternary content addressable memory (TCAM) for ternary searching by configuring signal lines and sense amplifiers. The authors performed 5000 trials of the Monte Carlo simulation for four types of CBLOs. The results of all four types were observed to be accurate, and the delay of the TCAM was observed to be as low as 141 ps, which improves the parallelism of IMC, reduces power consumption, and significantly reduces calculation delay

A Method for Grading the Hidden Dangers of Urban Gas Polyethylene Pipelines Based on Improved PLC Methods

    No full text
The classification of hidden dangers in urban gas pipelines plays a vital role in the smooth operation of urban gas pipelines and in solving the problem of hidden safety dangers in urban gas pipelines. In recent years, the number and proportion of polyethylene (PE) pipelines in urban gas pipelines are increasing day by day, but the current classification of hidden dangers in urban gas pipelines is still based on steel pipelines, and the classification method is highly subjective. Therefore, this paper proposes an improved PLC method that integrates the use of a risk matrix and compensation coefficient to solve the problem of grading the hidden dangers of PE pipelines of urban gas. The improved PLC method is based on the failure database of urban gas PE pipelines to obtain the vulnerability and severity of consequences when determining the initial level of hidden dangers, and the compensation coefficient is modified according to regional vulnerability, ease of rectification, condition around the pipeline, positioning technology, leak detection technology, and emergency ability, which can effectively reduce the subjectivity of hidden danger classification. Using the improved PLC method to classify urban gas pipelines for hidden dangers can provide pipeline operating companies with a basis for decision making in the process of hidden danger disposal and effectively reduce pipeline safety risks
