Responses of mRNA expression of PepT1 in small intestine to graded duodenal soybean small peptides infusion in lactating goats
To study the effect of circulation small peptides concentration on mRNA expression in small intestine, graded amount of soybean small peptides (SSP) were infused into lactating goats through duodenal fistulas. Peptide-bound amino acid (PBAA) concentration in arterial plasma and the mRNA expression of PepT1 was detected in the current study. The results showed that concentrations of all peptidebound amino acids (PBAA) increased and the activity of PepT1 in duodenum tissue was enhanced by SSP infusion. Dcc Mediates Functional Assembly of Peripheral Auditory Circuits.
Proper structural organization of spiral ganglion (SG) innervation is crucial for normal hearing function. However, molecular mechanisms underlying the developmental formation of this precise organization remain not well understood. Here, we report in the developing mouse cochlea that deleted in colorectal cancer (Dcc) contributes to the proper organization of spiral ganglion neurons (SGNs) within the Rosenthal\u27s canal and of SGN projections toward both the peripheral and central auditory targets. In Dcc mutant embryos, mispositioning of SGNs occurred along the peripheral auditory pathway with misrouted afferent fibers and reduced synaptic contacts with hair cells. The central auditory pathway simultaneously exhibited similar defective phenotypes as in the periphery with abnormal exit of SGNs from the Rosenthal\u27s canal towards central nuclei. Furthermore, the axons of SGNs ascending into the cochlear nucleus had disrupted bifurcation patterns. Thus, Dcc is necessary for establishing the proper spatial organization of SGNs and their fibers in both peripheral and central auditory pathways, through controlling axon targeting and cell migration. Our results suggest that Dcc plays an important role in the developmental formation of peripheral and central auditory circuits, and its mutation may contribute to sensorineural hearing loss
Decoherence of two qubits in a non-Markovian reservoir without rotating-wave approximation
The decoherence of two initially entangled qubits in a non-Markovian
reservoir has been investigated exactly without Born Markovian approximation
and rotating-wave approximation(RWA). The non-perturbative quantum master
equation is derived and its exact solution is obtained. The decoherence
behaviors of two qubits, initially entangled in Bell states, has been
investigated in three different cases of parameters. The results show that the
counter-rotating wave terms have great influence on the decoherence behavior,
and there are differences between the exact solution of the Hamiltonian with
RWA and that of the exact Hamiltonian without RWA. It might be improper to take
RWA when the atom is in a non-markovian reservoir
Experimental entanglement verification and quantification via uncertainty relations
We report on experimental studies on entanglement quantification and
verification based on uncertainty relations for systems consisting of two
qubits. The new proposed measure is shown to be invariant under local unitary
transformations, by which entanglement quantification is implemented for
two-qubit pure states. The nonlocal uncertainty relations for two-qubit pure
states are also used for entanglement verification which serves as a basic
proposition and promise to be a good choice for verification of multipartite

Insights into the Ecological Roles and Evolution of Methyl-Coenzyme M Reductase-Containing Hot Spring Archaea
Several recent studies have shown the presence of genes for the key enzyme associated with archaeal methane/alkane metabolism, methyl-coenzyme M reductase (Mcr), in metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) divergent to existing archaeal lineages. Here, we study the mcr-containing archaeal MAGs from several hot springs, which reveal further expansion in the diversity of archaeal organisms performing methane/alkane metabolism. Significantly, an MAG basal to organisms from the phylum Thaumarchaeota that contains mcr genes, but not those for ammonia oxidation or aerobic metabolism, is identified. Together, our phylogenetic analyses and ancestral state reconstructions suggest a mostly vertical evolution of mcrABG genes among methanogens and methanotrophs, along with frequent horizontal gene transfer of mcr genes between alkanotrophs. Analysis of all mcr-containing archaeal MAGs/genomes suggests a hydrothermal origin for these microorganisms based on optimal growth temperature predictions. These results also suggest methane/alkane oxidation or methanogenesis at high temperature likely existed in a common archaeal ancestor
Paradoxical enhancement of chemoreceptor detection sensitivity by a sensory adaptation enzyme
A sensory adaptation system that tunes chemoreceptor sensitivity enables motile Escherichia coli cells to track chemical gradients with high sensitivity over a wide dynamic range. Sensory adaptation involves feedback control of covalent receptor modifications by two enzymes: CheR, a methyltransferase, and CheB, a methylesterase. This study describes a CheR function that opposes the signaling consequences of its catalytic activity. In the presence of CheR, a variety of mutant serine chemoreceptors displayed up to 40-fold enhanced detection sensitivity to chemoeffector stimuli. This response enhancement effect did not require the known catalytic activity of CheR, but did involve a binding interaction between CheR and receptor molecules. Response enhancement was maximal at low CheR:receptor stoichiometry and quantitative analyses argued against a reversible binding interaction that simply shifts the ON-OFF equilibrium of receptor signaling complexes. Rather, a short-lived CheR binding interaction appears to promote a long-lasting change in receptor molecules, either a covalent modification or conformation that enhances their response to attractant ligands
Elliptical Galaxies with Emission Lines from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey
We present the results of 11 elliptical galaxies with strong nebular emission
lines during our study of star formation history along the Hubble sequence.
After removing the dilution from the underlying old stellar populations by use
of stellar population synthesis model, we derive the accurate fluxes of all
emission lines for these objects, which are later classified with emission line
ratios into one Seyfert 2, six LINERs and four HII galaxies. We also identify
one HII galaxy (A1216+04) as a hitherto unknown Wolf-Rayet galaxy from the
presence of the Wolf-Rayet broad bump at 4650 \AA. We propose that the
star-forming activities in elliptical galaxies are triggered by either
galaxy-galaxy interaction or the merging of a small satellite/a massive star
cluster, as already suggested by recent numerical simulations

Using ultra-bright sources of pure-state entangled photons from parametric
down conversion, an eight-photon interferometer and post-selection detection,
