Study on SPH Viscosity Term Formulations
For viscosity-dominated flows, the viscous effect plays a much more important role. Since the viscosity term in SPH-governing (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics) equations involves the discretization of a second-order derivative, its treatment could be much more challenging than that of a first-order derivative, such as the pressure gradient. The present paper summarizes a series of improved methods for modeling the second-order viscosity force term. By using a benchmark patch test, the numerical accuracy and efficiency of different approaches are evaluated under both uniform and non-uniform particle configurations. Then these viscosity force models are used to compute a documented lid-driven cavity flow and its interaction with a cylinder, from which the most recommended viscosity term formulation has been identified
Cooperative Caching and Transmission Design in Cluster-Centric Small Cell Networks
Wireless content caching in small cell networks (SCNs) has recently been
considered as an efficient way to reduce the traffic and the energy consumption
of the backhaul in emerging heterogeneous cellular networks (HetNets). In this
paper, we consider a cluster-centric SCN with combined design of cooperative
caching and transmission policy. Small base stations (SBSs) are grouped into
disjoint clusters, in which in-cluster cache space is utilized as an entity. We
propose a combined caching scheme where part of the available cache space is
reserved for caching the most popular content in every SBS, while the remaining
is used for cooperatively caching different partitions of the less popular
content in different SBSs, as a means to increase local content diversity.
Depending on the availability and placement of the requested content,
coordinated multipoint (CoMP) technique with either joint transmission (JT) or
parallel transmission (PT) is used to deliver content to the served user. Using
Poisson point process (PPP) for the SBS location distribution and a hexagonal
grid model for the clusters, we provide analytical results on the successful
content delivery probability of both transmission schemes for a user located at
the cluster center. Our analysis shows an inherent tradeoff between
transmission diversity and content diversity in our combined
caching-transmission design. We also study optimal cache space assignment for
two objective functions: maximization of the cache service performance and the
energy efficiency. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves
performance gain by leveraging cache-level and signal-level cooperation and
adapting to the network environment and user QoS requirements.Comment: 13 pages, 10 figures, submitted for possible journal publicatio
Fermi-liquid ground state in n-type copper-oxide superconductor Pr0.91Ce0.09LaCuO4-y
We report nuclear magnetic resonance studies on the low-doped n-type
copper-oxide Pr_{0.91}LaCe_{0.09}CuO_{4-y} (T_c=24 K) in the superconducting
state and in the normal state uncovered by the application of a strong magnetic
field. We find that when the superconductivity is removed, the underlying
ground state is the Fermi liquid state. This result is at variance with that
inferred from previous thermal conductivity measurement and contrast with that
in p-type copper-oxides with a similar doping level where high-T_c
superconductivity sets in within the pseudogap phase. The data in the
superconducting state are consistent with the line-nodes gap model.Comment: version to appear in Phys. Rev. Let
Excitation of nonlinear ion acoustic waves in CH plasmas
Excitation of nonlinear ion acoustic wave (IAW) by an external electric field
is demonstrated by Vlasov simulation. The frequency calculated by the
dispersion relation with no damping is verified much closer to the resonance
frequency of the small-amplitude nonlinear IAW than that calculated by the
linear dispersion relation. When the wave number increases,
the linear Landau damping of the fast mode (its phase velocity is greater than
any ion's thermal velocity) increases obviously in the region of in which the fast mode is weakly damped mode. As a result, the deviation
between the frequency calculated by the linear dispersion relation and that by
the dispersion relation with no damping becomes larger with
increasing. When is not large, such as , the nonlinear IAW can be excited by the driver with the linear frequency
of the modes. However, when is large, such as
, the linear frequency can not be applied to exciting the
nonlinear IAW, while the frequency calculated by the dispersion relation with
no damping can be applied to exciting the nonlinear IAW.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures, Accepted by POP, Publication in August 1
Efficient Scheduling for SDMG CIOQ Switches
Combined input and output queuing (CIOQ) switches are being considered as high-performance switch architectures due to their ability to achieve 100% throughput and perfectly emulate output queuing (OQ) switch performance with a small speedup factor S. To realize a speedup factor S, a conventional CIOQ switch requires the switching fabric and memories to operate S times faster than the line rate. In this paper, we propose to use a CIOQ switch with space-division multiplexing expansion and grouped input/output ports (SDMG CIOQ switch for short) to realize speedup while only requiring the switching fabric and memories to operate at the line rate. The cell scheduling problem for the SDMG CIOQ switch is abstracted as a bipartite k-matching problem. Using fluid model techniques, we prove that any maximal size k-matching algorithm on an SDMG CIOQ switch with an expansion factor 2 can achieve 100% throughput assuming input line arrivals satisfy the strong law of large numbers (SLLN) and no input/output line is oversubscribed. We further propose an efficient and starvation-free maximal size k-matching scheduling algorithm, kFRR, for the SDMG CIOQ switch. Simulation results show that kFRR achieves 100% throughput for SDMG CIOQ switches with an expansion factor 2 under two SLLN traffic models, uniform traffic and polarized traffic, confirming our analysis
