Quantum broadcast communication
Broadcast encryption allows the sender to securely distribute his/her secret
to a dynamically changing group of users over a broadcast channel. In this
paper, we just consider a simple broadcast communication task in quantum
scenario, which the central party broadcasts his secret to multi-receiver via
quantum channel. We present three quantum broadcast communication schemes. The
first scheme utilizes entanglement swapping and Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger
state to realize a task that the central party broadcasts his secret to a group
of receivers who share a group key with him. In the second scheme, based on
dense coding, the central party broadcasts the secret to multi-receiver who
share each of their authentication key with him. The third scheme is a quantum
broadcast communication scheme with quantum encryption, which the central party
can broadcast the secret to any subset of the legal receivers
Orbital magnetization and its effects in spin-chiral ferromagnetic Kagome lattice
Recently, Berry phase in the semiclassical dynamical of Bloch electrons has
been found to make a correction to the phase-space density of states and a
general multi-band formula for finite-temperature orbital magnetization has
been given [Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{97}, 026603 (2006)], where the orbital
magnetization consists of two parts, i.e., the conventional part
and the Berry-phase correction part . Using this general
formula, we theoretically investigate the orbital magnetization and its effects
on thermoelectric transport and magnetic susceptibility properties of the
two-dimensional \textit{kagom\'{e}} lattice with spin anisotropies included.
The study in this paper is highly interesting by the occurrence of nonzero
Chern number in the lattice. The spin chirality parameter (see text)
results in profound effects on the orbital magnetization properties. It is
found that the two parts in orbital magnetization opposite each other. In
particular, we show that and yield the paramagnetic and
diamagnetic responses, respectively. It is further shown that the orbital
magnetization displays fully different behavior in the metallic and insulating
regions, which is due to the different roles and play in
these two regions. The anomalous Nernst conductivity is also calculated, which
displays a peak-valley structure as a function of the electron Fermi energy.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figure
Calibration of LAMOST Stellar Surface Gravities Using the Kepler Asteroseismic Data
Asteroseismology is a powerful tool to precisely determine the evolutionary
status and fundamental properties of stars. With the unprecedented precision
and nearly continuous photometric data acquired by the NASA Kepler mission,
parameters of more than 10 stars have been determined nearly consistently.
However, most studies still use photometric effective temperatures (Teff) and
metallicities ([Fe/H]) as inputs, which are not sufficiently accurate as
suggested by previous studies. We adopted the spectroscopic Teff and [Fe/H]
values based on the LAMOST low-resolution spectra (R~1,800), and combined them
with the global oscillation parameters to derive the physical parameters of a
large sample of stars. Clear trends were found between {\Delta}logg(LAMOST -
seismic) and spectroscopic Teff as well as logg, which may result in an
overestimation of up to 0.5 dex for the logg of giants in the LAMOST catalog.
We established empirical calibration relations for the logg values of dwarfs
and giants. These results can be used for determining the precise distances to
these stars based on their spectroscopic parameters.Comment: 22 pages, 13 figures and 3 tables, accepted for publication in

Entanglement and Quantum Phase Transition in Low Dimensional Spin Systems
Entanglement of the ground states in and dimerized Heisenberg spin
chains as well as in a two-leg spin ladder is analyzed by using the spin-spin
concurrence and the entanglement entropy between a selected sublattice of spins
and the rest of the system. In particular, we reveal that quantum phase
transition points/boundaries may be identified based on the analysis on the
local extreme of this entanglement entropy, which is illustrated to be superior
over the concurrence scenario and may enable us to explore quantum phase
transitions in many other systems including higher dimensional ones.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Drivers of Change for Grassland and Forage Systems: A Case Study of China
Grassland and forage systems have changed dramatically across the world. This paper describes some of the key drivers of change of grassland and forage systems using examples from China as a case study. The key drivers of change for grassland and forage systems include political, economic, social, technical and environmental factors and their impact on changes in grasslands ecosystems in China is discussed. There are interactions among the drivers and their impact is similar in many developing countries
Deep Video Generation, Prediction and Completion of Human Action Sequences
Current deep learning results on video generation are limited while there are
only a few first results on video prediction and no relevant significant
results on video completion. This is due to the severe ill-posedness inherent
in these three problems. In this paper, we focus on human action videos, and
propose a general, two-stage deep framework to generate human action videos
with no constraints or arbitrary number of constraints, which uniformly address
the three problems: video generation given no input frames, video prediction
given the first few frames, and video completion given the first and last
frames. To make the problem tractable, in the first stage we train a deep
generative model that generates a human pose sequence from random noise. In the
second stage, a skeleton-to-image network is trained, which is used to generate
a human action video given the complete human pose sequence generated in the
first stage. By introducing the two-stage strategy, we sidestep the original
ill-posed problems while producing for the first time high-quality video
generation/prediction/completion results of much longer duration. We present
quantitative and qualitative evaluation to show that our two-stage approach
outperforms state-of-the-art methods in video generation, prediction and video
completion. Our video result demonstration can be viewed at

PT Symmetry as a Generalization of Hermiticity
The Hilbert space in PT-symmetric quantum mechanics is formulated as a linear
vector space with a dynamic inner product. The most general PT-symmetric matrix
Hamiltonians are constructed for 2*2 and 3*3 cases. In the former case, the
PT-symmetric Hamiltonian represents the most general matrix Hamiltonian with a
real spectrum. In both cases, Hermitian matrices are shown to be special cases
of PT-symmetric matrices. This finding confirms and strengthens the early
belief that the PT-symmetric quantum mechanics is a generalization of the
conventional Hermitian quantum mechanics.Comment: 13 page
Acclimation of methane emissions from rice paddy fields to straw addition
This is the final version. Available on open access from AAAS via the DOI in this recordData and materials availability: All data needed to evaluate the conclusions in the paper are present in the paper and/or the Supplementary Materials. Additional data related to this paper may be requested from the authors.Straw incorporation is a common long-term practice to improve soil fertility in croplands worldwide. However, straw amendments often increase methane (CH4) emissions from rice paddies, one of the main sources of anthropogenic CH4. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) methodologies to estimate CH4 emissions from rice agriculture assume that the effect of straw addition remains constant over time. Here, we show through a series of experiments and meta-analysis that these CH4 emissions acclimate. Effects of long-term (>5 years) straw application on CH4 emissions were, on average, 48% lower than IPCC estimates. Long-term straw incorporation increased soil methanotrophic abundance and rice root size, suggesting an increase in CH4 oxidation rates through improved O2 transport into the rhizosphere. Our results suggest that recent model projections may have overestimated CH4 emissions from rice agriculture and that CH4 emission estimates can be improved by considering the duration of straw incorporation and other management practices.National Key Research and Development Program of ChinaSpecial Fund for Agro-scientific Research in the Public InterestChina Agriculture Research System–Green ManureCentral Public-interest Scientific Institution Basal Research Fund of Institute of Crop ScienceInnovation Program of CAASGEF Project of Climate Smart Staple Crop Production in Chin
