Calibrating the absorption imaging of cold atoms under high magnetic fields
We develop a theoretical model for calibrating the absorption imaging of cold
atoms under high magnetic fields. Comparing to zero or low magnetic fields, the
efficiency of the absorption imaging becomes lower while it requires an
additional correction factor to obtain the absolute atom number under the
Beer-Lambert law. Our model is based on the rate equations and can account many
experimental imperfections such as Zeeman level crossing, failures of hyperfine
structures, off-resonant couplings, and low repumping efficiency, etc. Based on
this method, we can precisely calculate the correction factor for atom number
measurement without any empirical or fitting parameters. Meanwhile, we use a
cold-atom apparatus of rubidium-85 to experimentally verify our model. Besides
these, we find our work can also serve as a benchmark to measure the
polarization impurity of a circular-polarized laser beam with high
sensitivities. We believe this work will bring convenience for most of
cold-atom experiments using absorption imaging.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figure

The Impact of Government Role on High-Quality Innovation Development in Mainland China
Innovation serves as the first impetus for high-quality development. The role of government in promoting high-quality innovation development has become a chief driving force. Therefore, based on role theory, this paper will discuss the effect of different government roles on high-quality innovation development and regional alienation, providing policy recommendations for China. In this paper, firstly, a super-efficiency DEA model is introduced to measure the high-quality innovation development level among 30 provinces and municipalities in mainland China from 2010 to 2017. Secondly, a Tobit model is used to analyze the impact of different government roles on high-quality innovation development. The following conclusions are drawn through a super-efficiency DEA model: (1) From the holistic perspective, the high-quality innovation development in mainland China shows a fluctuating growth trend, but its level still needs improvement. (2) From the regional perspective, there is a patchwork pattern of ‘the eastern region ranks highest, followed by the western region and the middle region that stays at the lowest’. In addition, the three regions’ average of total factor productivity of high-quality innovation development has shown a smooth upward trend over the years. Then, the results of Tobit regression analysis are as follows: (1) Apart from the role in supporting talent, roles in constructing innovation platforms, cultivating the innovation environment, and coordinating social resources all pass the significance test. (2) Demands of different government roles vary significantly in different regions from the regional perspective. For the betterment of an innovation society, this paper puts forward suggestions according to different regional development statuses, such as shifting our focus from quantity to quality, strengthening cooperation among provinces and municipalities, and formulating appropriate governance role strategies
Calorie restriction-induced SIRT6 activation delays aging by suppressing NF-κB signaling
<p>Calorie restriction (CR) extends lifespan from yeast to mammals. SIRT6 is a member of the sirtuin family of NAD+-dependent histone deacetylases, which is responsible for mediating the effects of CR. The transcription factor NF-κB, which is involved in inflammation and aging, has been shown to be regulated by SIRT6. Here we describe the crucial role of SIRT6 in aging and inflammation. We show that CR had improved renal insufficiency and enhanced SIRT6 expression after 6-month treatment in aged mice. Culture cells in low glucose (LG) conditions also showed resistance to cell senescence and enhanced SIRT6 expression compared to normal glucose (NG) group, showing beneficial effects of the CR-mimic cultural conditions. Moreover, SIRT6 overexpression is sufficient to delay the replicative senescence of WI38 by attenuating NF-κB signaling, while SIRT6 knockdown results in accelerated cell senescence and overactive NF-κB signaling. These findings confirm the key status of CR and disclose the critical role of SIRT6 on aging and inflammation.</p
