    A multi-demand negotiation model based on fuzzy rules elicited via psychological experiments

    This paper proposes a multi-demand negotiation model that takes the effect of human users’ psychological characteristics into consideration. Specifically, in our model each negotiating agent's preference over its demands can be changed, according to human users’ attitudes to risk, patience and regret, during the course of a negotiation. And the change of preference structures is determined by fuzzy logic rules, which are elicited through our psychological experiments. The applicability of our model is illustrated by using our model to solve a problem of political negotiation between two countries. Moreover, we do lots of theoretical and empirical analyses to reveal some insights into our model. In addition, to compare our model with existing ones, we make a survey on fuzzy logic based negotiation, and discuss the similarities and differences between our negotiation model and various consensus models

    A Clustering Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Method for Large-Scale Discrete and Continuous Uncertain Evaluation

    In recent years, Dempster–Shafer (D–S) theory has been widely used in multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problems due to its excellent performance in dealing with discrete ambiguous decision alternative (DA) evaluations. In the general framework of D–S-theory-based MCDM problems, the preference of the DAs for each criterion is regarded as a mass function over the set of DAs based on subjective evaluations. Moreover, the multi-criteria preference aggregation is based on Dempster’s combination rule. Unfortunately, this an idea faces two difficulties in real-world applications: (i) D–S theory can only deal with discrete uncertain evaluations, but is powerless in the face of continuous uncertain evaluations. (ii) The generation of the mass function for each criterion relies on the empirical judgments of experts, making it time-consuming and laborious in terms of the MCDM problem for large-scale DAs. To the best of our knowledge, these two difficulties cannot be addressed with existing D–S-theory-based MCDM methods. To this end, this paper proposes a clustering MCDM method combining D–S theory with the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and the Silhouette coefficient. By employing the probability distribution and the D–S theory to represent discrete and continuous ambiguous evaluations, respectively, determining the focal element set for the mass function of each criterion through the clustering method, assigning the mass values of each criterion through the AHP method, and aggregating preferences according to Dempster’s combination rule, we show that our method can indeed address these two difficulties in MCDM problems. Finally, an example is given and comparative analyses with related methods are conducted to illustrate our method’s rationality, effectiveness, and efficiency

    A negotiation-based model for policy generation

    In traditional policy generation models, the preferences over polices are often represented by qualitative orderings due to the difficulty of acquisition of accurate utility. Thus, it is difficult to evaluate agreements in such models so that players cannot adjust their strategies during a policy generation process. To this end, this paper introduces a negotiation-based model for policy generation, which contains two evaluation methods, both from the perspectives of concessional utilities and consistency, to guide players to make decisions flexibly. The first method is used to model humans’ reasoning about how to calculate concessional utilities from uncertain preference information of policies based on fuzzy reasoning, while the second method is used to measure similarity between an ideal agreement and an offer based on a prioritised consistency degree. The experimental results show the difference between the evaluation methods and confirm that the proposed model and evaluation methods can help players achieve better agreements than an existing model

    A logical multidemand bargaining model with integrity constraints

    This paper proposes a logical model of multi-demand bargaining with integrity constraints. We also construct a simultaneous concession solution to bargaining games of this kind and show that the solution is uniquely characterized by a set of logical properties. Moreover, we prove that the solution also satisfies the most fundamental game theoretic properties such as symmetry and Pareto optimality. In addition, by lots of simulation experiments we study how the number of conflicting demands, bargainers' risk attitude, and bargainer number influence the bargaining success rate and efficiency as well as the agreement quality

    Accommodation and Avoidance: Functional Conflict Theory (FCT)-Based Governance Logic of Resettled Community Conflict in China

    The resettled community is a special type of transitional community in China where the residents are urbanized peasants who lost their lands during urbanization development. However, resettled community conflicts (RCCs) are barriers to sustainable community transformation. Focusing on functional conflict, this study identified the conflicts in the resettled community and proposed feasible governance logic for RCCs. The research in this article has a significant theoretical foundation in functional conflict theory. By examining a large sample of cases, seven RCC types were identified (e.g., inner discontent of residents, mass incidents), of which three have positive functions and four have negative impacts. Furthermore, three RCC causes were identified: right-based, interest-based, and value-based conflicts. Their mechanisms for the conflict function are, respectively, the contextual dual-functional, destructive one-way, and structural dual-functional paths. Considering these findings, we propose a dual governance logic of RCC: accommodation and avoidance. Within the dual logic, specific governance strategies are proposed for the different RCC causes and their functional formation paths. This research serves as an important reference for proper policy measures to govern RCCs and promote the sustainable transformation of resettled communities. The methodology adopted can be extended to the study of RCC in broader global contexts

    Fabrication of Antioxidant Pickering Emulsion Based on Resveratrol-Grafted Zein Conjugates: Enhancing the Physical and Oxidative Stability

    Lipid oxidation is still a major problem complicating the development of food emulsions. In this study, an antioxidant Pickering emulsion stabilized by resveratrol-grafted zein (Z-R) conjugates and pectin (P) complex particles was prepared. The hydrophilic pectin successfully adjusted the wettability of Z-R; when the mass ratio of Z-R to P was 2:1 (Z-R/P2:1), the three-phase contact angle was 90.68°, and the wettability of the particles was close to neutral. Rheological analysis showed that the emulsion formed an elastic gel structure. FTIR spectra indicated that there was a hydrogen bond and electrostatic interaction between Z-R and P. The disappearance of characteristic infrared peaks of corn oil was due to a dense protective film formed on the surface of oil drops by Z-R/P2:1 particles, which was confirmed by confocal laser scanning microscopy. The emulsion stabilized by Z-R/P2:1 had excellent physical stability at a wide range of pH values (4–9), salt ion concentrations (0.04–0.15 mol·L−1) and storage times (0–30 days). The anti-lipid oxidation ability of the emulsion was outstanding; after storage for 14 days at room temperature, the MDA content in the emulsion was only 123.85 μmol/kg oil. In conclusion, the Z-R/P2:1 particles prepared in this study can effectively stabilize a Pickering emulsion and expand the usability of the method for constructing antioxidant Pickering emulsions

    Association between solid cooking fuel and cognitive decline: Three nationwide cohort studies in middle-aged and older population

    Background: Household solid-fuel burning contributes to indoor air pollution and is linked to poor cognitive function, but how solid cooking fuel use leads to cognitive decline over time is not well elaborated. Objective: We examine the associations of solid cooking fuel with cognitive function among three nationally representative cohorts. Methods: This study uses data from the 2010–2018 China Family Panel Studies (CFPS), the 2011–2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) and the 2003–2015 Mexican Health and Aging Study (MHAS) in adults over the age of 50. Time varying Cox model was conducted to measure the association between cooking fuel types and cognitive decline. Mediation analysis was used to estimate the potential mediation effects on the associations of cooking fuel types with cognitive decline risk. Results: Respondents in CFPS, CHARLS, and MHAS relied on solid cooking fuel at baseline approximately 56 %, 51 %, and 12 %, respectively. Using solid fuel was consistently associated with higher risk of cognitive decline in three cohorts (CFPS: HR = 1.300 [95 % CI: 1.201, 1.407], CHARLS: HR = 1.179 [95 % CI: 1.059, 1.312], MHAS: HR = 1.237 [95 % CI: 1.123, 1.362]). Compared to those with persistent solid fuel, persistent clean fuel and change from solid fuel to clean fuel were associated with a lower risk of cognitive decline. Hypertension, diabetes, physical activity, dyslipidemia and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) may partially mediate the cognitive decline caused by solid fuel use. Of the cognitive decline burden, 18.23 % (95 % CI: 12.21 %, 24.73 %) in CFPS, 8.90 % (95 % CI: 2.93 %, 15.52 %) in CHARLS and 2.92 % (95 % CI: 1.52 %, 4.46 %) in MHAS of cognitive decline cases attributable to solid cooking fuel use. Conclusion: The use of solid cooking fuel is associated with a higher risk of cognitive decline. It is essential to promote the expanded use of clean fuel to protect cognitive health
