Addressing Hispanic Adolescent Mental Health in the Texas Border Region: A Policy Analysis

Distinguished MPH Capstone Project 2015 The Texas border region experiences adverse cultural, socioeconomic, environmental, and political challenges that influence the mental health status of adolescents living along the border. The purpose of this research was to provide informed advice to relevant policy makers and facilitate decision-making concerning access to culturally competent mental health services for Hispanic adolescents in this region. A systematic literature review was performed to assess the evidence of barriers these adolescents face when accessing mental health services. Interviews with relevant key stakeholders in the region were then conducted to identify their perspectives on barriers to care. The responses were analyzed using a qualitative thematic approach. The stakeholders described issues within the mental health care system, e.g., lack of mental health providers and poor utilization of school-based mental health services, political issues, e.g., a lack of government funding, and social issues, e.g., stigma, cultural norms, and fear over legal status. The information was synthesized and used to identify five policy options to potentially overcome these barriers to increase access to care. The strategies examined were: creation of a Mental Health Provider Education Loan Repayment Program; reauthorization of the federal School-Based Health Center Capitol Program; passage of Texas House Bill No. 313 to increase the number of certified school counselors in school districts; passage of Texas House Bill No. 357 relating to the responsibilities of school counselors; and passage of Texas Senate Bill No. 518 relating to the inclusion of mental health concerns in existing school health efforts. Based on a thorough feasibility analysis of each option, it was determined that the passage of Texas House Bill No. 313, expanding the number of certified school counselors in each school district, is the most favorable option and has the greatest potential to increase access to mental health care services for the Hispanic adolescent border population. Municipalização de sítios portuários: um estudo de caso no Porto de Itajaí-SC

Único de gestão municipalizada no Brasil, é o porto nacional que mais se aproxima do modelo de gestão praticado na maior parte dos grandes portos mundiais, distanciando-se razoavelmente da centralizada gestão típica dos outros portos brasileiros. Três foram os âmbitos de gestão portuária descritos e analisados: (i) a realidade da gestão portuária no mundo; (ii) a realidade da gestão portuária no Brasil; (iii) e a realidade da gestão portuária em Itajaí. Também foram abordados neste trabalho os conceitos básicos para a discussão do tema, o histórico da gestão portuária em Itajaí e no Brasil, bem como a relação entre porto e cidade no sítio portuário estudado. A descrição da gestão portuária nos três âmbitos e em especial em Itajaí provoca a reflexão dos pesquisadores, gestores e governo acerca dos rumos da gestão portuária brasileira e convida ao desenvolvimento de novas pesquisas sobre gestão portuária, um tema ainda escasso na academia brasileira.This study sought to systematize, in the form of a dissertation, data, information and findings of a case study on the management of the port of Itajai, Santa Catarina. The only municipal management port in Brazil, Itajaí is closest national example of the port management model practiced in most major world ports, very different from the centralized management model of other Brazilian ports. Three were the views which port management models have been described: (i) the reality of port management in the world, (ii) the reality of port management in Brazil, (iii) and the reality of port management at the site of Itajai. Also in this paper are the concepts involved in the discussion of the topic, the history of the port management in Itajai and Brazil, and the relationship between port and port city on the site studied. The description of port management in those three views and in Itajaí allows reflection of the researchers, managers and government concerning the direction of Brazilian port management, and facilitates the development of research on port management, a topic still scarce in the brazilian universities

Estudo da reação de metanação catalisada por niquel suportado

Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Ciencias Fisicas e MatematicasA reação de metanação, entre o hidrogênio e monóxido de carbono foi estudada usando uma mistura reacional de H2/CO3:1), catalisada por níquel suportado em sílica, alumina, e nióbia.A temperatura de conversão total de CO segue a ordem de atividade específica Nb2O5 >> Al2O3 @ SiO2. Níquel suportado sobre nióbia apresenta uma atividade específica muito sensível ao teor metálico. Estes resultados são atribuídos ao forte efeito FIMS da nióbia. Indiferente do suporte, a adição de cobre com teor fixo de Ni, produz uma abrupta diminuição da atividade, atribuída à substituição preferencial de átomos de Ni por átomos de Cu no sítio ativo da metanação

Escrituras de profanação : documentos do feminicídio como dispositivos poéticos para a criação dramatúrgica de Hipólito e outras cenas curtas

Este trabalho apresenta o caminho percorrido ao longo de um processo de criação dramatúrgica a partir de documentos do feminicídio. Esta pesquisa utilizou como procedimento metodológico a realização de entrevistas com mulheres sobreviventes do feminicídio e seleção de diferentes matérias jornalísticas sobre o assunto. Lançando mão do olhar crítico de Re-visão (Rich, 2017) e da noção de profanação (Agamben, 2012) utilizando esses documentos como dispositivos mobilizadores para a escrita das peças Hipólito e outras cenas curtas. Evidencia-se o processo de criação e suas etapas com o intuito de compartilhar outras possibilidades de procedimentos disparadores para a escrita dramatúrgica.This work presents the path taken throughout a process of dramaturgical creation based on feminicide documents. This research used as a methodological procedure the conduct of interviews with women survivors of feminicide and the selection of different journalistic articles on the subject. Using the critical perspective of Re-vision (Rich, 2017) and the notion of profanation (Agamben, 2012), using these documents as mobilizing devices for the writing of the Hipólito plays and other short scenes. The creation process and its stages are highlighted with the aim of sharing other possibilities of triggering procedures for dramaturgical writing
