    Spatial and Social Paradigms for Interference and Coverage Analysis in Underlay D2D Network

    The homogeneous Poisson point process (PPP) is widely used to model spatial distribution of base stations and mobile terminals. The same process can be used to model underlay device-to-device (D2D) network, however, neglecting homophilic relation for D2D pairing presents underestimated system insights. In this paper, we model both spatial and social distributions of interfering D2D nodes as proximity based independently marked homogeneous Poisson point process. The proximity considers physical distance between D2D nodes whereas social relationship is modeled as Zipf based marks. We apply these two paradigms to analyze the effect of interference on coverage probability of distance-proportional power-controlled cellular user. Effectively, we apply two type of functional mappings (physical distance, social marks) to Laplace functional of PPP. The resulting coverage probability has no closed-form expression, however for a subset of social marks, the mark summation converges to digamma and polygamma functions. This subset constitutes the upper and lower bounds on coverage probability. We present numerical evaluation of these bounds on coverage probability by varying number of different parameters. The results show that by imparting simple power control on cellular user, ultra-dense underlay D2D network can be realized without compromising the coverage probability of cellular user.Comment: 10 pages, 10 figure

    Separation Framework: An Enabler for Cooperative and D2D Communication for Future 5G Networks

    Soaring capacity and coverage demands dictate that future cellular networks need to soon migrate towards ultra-dense networks. However, network densification comes with a host of challenges that include compromised energy efficiency, complex interference management, cumbersome mobility management, burdensome signaling overheads and higher backhaul costs. Interestingly, most of the problems, that beleaguer network densification, stem from legacy networks' one common feature i.e., tight coupling between the control and data planes regardless of their degree of heterogeneity and cell density. Consequently, in wake of 5G, control and data planes separation architecture (SARC) has recently been conceived as a promising paradigm that has potential to address most of aforementioned challenges. In this article, we review various proposals that have been presented in literature so far to enable SARC. More specifically, we analyze how and to what degree various SARC proposals address the four main challenges in network densification namely: energy efficiency, system level capacity maximization, interference management and mobility management. We then focus on two salient features of future cellular networks that have not yet been adapted in legacy networks at wide scale and thus remain a hallmark of 5G, i.e., coordinated multipoint (CoMP), and device-to-device (D2D) communications. After providing necessary background on CoMP and D2D, we analyze how SARC can particularly act as a major enabler for CoMP and D2D in context of 5G. This article thus serves as both a tutorial as well as an up to date survey on SARC, CoMP and D2D.     Intracell interference characterization and cluster interference for D2D communication

    The homogeneous spatial Poisson point process (SPPP) is widely used for spatial modeling of mobile terminals (MTs). This process is characterized by a homogeneous distribution, complete spatial independence, and constant intensity measure. However, it is intuitive to understand that the locations of MTs are neither homogeneous, due to inhomogeneous terrain, nor independent, due to homophilic relations. Moreover, the intensity is not constant due to mobility. Therefore, assuming an SPPP for spatial modeling is too simplistic, especially for modeling realistic emerging device-centric frameworks such as device-to-device (D2D) communication. In this paper, assuming inhomogeneity, positive spatial correlation, and random intensity measure, we propose a doubly stochastic Poisson process, a generalization of the homogeneous SPPP, to model D2D communication. To this end, we assume a permanental Cox process (PCP) and propose a novel Euler-Characteristic-based approach to approximate the nearest-neighbor distribution function. We also propose a threshold and spatial distances from an excursion set of a chi-square random field as interference control parameters for different cluster sizes. The spatial distance of the clusters is incorporated into a Laplace functional of a PCP to analyze the average coverage probability of a cellular user. A closed-form approximation of the spatial summary statistics is in good agreement with empirical results, and its comparison with an SPPP authenticates the correlation modeling of D2D nodes

    Patients Perceptions of Doctors Empathy in MMCH *Aiman Mustafa, **Muhammad Zeeshan Zafar, ***Muhammad Asad Khan *Muhammad Medical College, Mirpurkhas, **Rashid Latif Medical College, ***Kind Edward Medical University.   Abstract Introduction: Empathy is defined as understanding of patient’s experiences, concern and perceptive, combined with a capacity to communicate and intention to help. Patient takes doctors empathy as his good will for successful treatment of his patient while understanding his misery. This study was designed to in investigate the perception of patients regarding doctor empathy and to examine their satisfaction and personal interest or indications of patient compliance. Methodology: A cross-sectional survey was conducted between August 1, 2015 50 August 26, 2015. 100 patients selected purposively from OPD and ward. A self-administrated Likert styled questionnaire originally developed by Hojat et al at Jefferson school of Medicine with Urdu translation was administered. The data was analyzed using SPSS version 16. Results: Among the total of 100 patients, 98%patients accept that their Doctor has been taking care of them, 74% patients were satisfied that the Doctor explain the reason for  any test, 94% thought that their  Doctor explained  things clearly to them, 96% strongly agreed that their  doctor had knowledge and skills, 100%  were satisfied with the care their  doctor  provided, while 82%claimed that their doctor encourage  them to explain  the disease to him, 94% wanted their  doctor to be present in any medical emergency. Conclusions: This study reveals a high degree of patient’s satisfaction with empathy of Doctors of MMCH, although some improvement is still possible.   Key words: Patient, empathy, concern, satisfaction, MMC

    Evaluation of Video Quality in Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks

    Simulating wireless sensor networks; there implementation and evaluation, require the use of a discrete event simulator. Omnet++ is quite a powerful simulator which supports concise and easy modeling of wired as well as wireless sensors environment. Scenarios involving multimedia transmissions with characteristics of video quality control and evaluation must be computed on the basis of Quality of Experience which relies on user’s perception to maintain the video quality. For the multimedia growth and awareness of future WMSNs, it is quite necessary that the performance should be tested for different types of radio models. So varying the radio parameters may allow for the optimization and improvement of the video quality. In this paper we have provided a test bench for the easy evaluation and optimization of the performance of WMSNs using different radio models. The performance is evaluated based on the QoE metrics; i.e. PSNR(Peak Signal-to-Noise ratio) and MoS(Mean Opinion Score), which depend on user’s perception to maintain the video quality

    Antibacterial activity of different fractional extracts of cerastium glomeratum

    Every plant available in the universe is not produced to be the part of biodiversity, but is also produced to obtain medicinal purposes. The medicinal value of the plant is due to the availability of various chemical compounds [1]. Since prehistoric time, the crude extract of plant is used to cure various diseases, although the biologically active components of the plant were unidentified [2]. In the present study the antibacterial activity is performed for various extracts of cerastium glomeratum. The plant cerastium glomeratum was collected from near kalpani river Mardan, Pakistan and was identified by lecturer Israr department of botany GPGC Mardan, Pakistan. The plant was dried under shade and grinded into powder form. The extraction process was done by using soxhlet apparatus, reflux condenser and maceration process using ethanol as a solvent. The extract was divided into different fractions of n-hexane, DCM, ethyl acetate and water. These four extracts were tested against gram positive (staphylococcus aureus) and gram negative (E.coli) bacteria using well diffusion technique. The water extract show a wide range inhibition zone against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria while n-hexane, DCM and ethyl acetate fractions show no zone of inhibition against bacteria. In effort to find new antibacterial compounds cerastium glomeratum seems to be a good plant for additional phytochemical studies

    Role of levetiracetam in refractory seizures due to a rare progressive myoclonic epilepsy: Lafora body disease

    Lafora disease is one of the rare, most fatal progressive myoclonic epilepsies reported. We present a case of a teenager with intractable seizures and progressive mental decline, diagnosed as Lafora body disease on axillary skin biopsy. He was admitted with status epilepticus with refractory myoclonic and generalised tonic clonic seizures. Despite on maximum doses of multiple antiepileptic drugs and infusions of propofol and midazolam, his seizures were refractory to all forms of medical therapy tried. Levetiracetam (LEV), a pyrrolidine derivative, was introduced; he showed a prompt response and was weaned off successfully from infusions of anticonvulsants and mechanical ventilation within 48 h of introduction of LEV, followed by an almost seizure-free status

    Host biomarkers for monitoring therapeutic response in extrapulmonary tuberculosis

    Purpose The aim of this study was to explore the utility of inflammatory biomarkers in the peripheral blood to predict response to treatment in extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB). Methods A Luminex xMAP-based multiplex immunoassay was used to measure 40 inflammatory biomarkers in un-stimulated plasma of 91 EPTB patients (48 lymphadenitis, and 43 pleuritis) before and at 2 and 6 months of treatment. Results Overall a significant change was observed in 28 inflammatory biomarkers with treatment in EPTB patients. However, MIG/CXCL9, IP-10/CXCL10, and CCL23 decreased in all patients' groups with successful treatment at both time points. At 2 months, 29/64 (45%) patients responded partially while 35/64 (55%) showed complete regress. Among good responders, a higher number of biomarkers (16/40) reduced significantly as compared to partial responders (1/40). Almost half (14/29) of partial responders required longer treatment than 6 months to achieve satisfactory response. The levels of MIG, IP-10, MIF, CCL22 and CCL23 reduced significantly among 80, 74, 60, 71, 51% good responders, as compared to 52, 52, 52, 59, 52% partial responders, respectively. A biosignature, defined by a significant decrease in any one of these five biomarkers, corresponded with satisfactory response to treatment in 97% patients at 2 month and 99% patients at 6 months of treatment. Conclusion Change in inflammatory biomarkers correlates with treatment success. A five biomarker biosignature (MIG, IP-10, MIF, CCL22 and CCL23) could be used as an indicator of treatment success.publishedVersio

    Fabrication of low-cost and environmental-friendly EHD printable thin film nanocomposite triboelectric nanogenerator using household recyclable materials

    Humans generate massive amounts of plastic and electronic waste, which pollute our environment, particularly our water supplies, and cause fatal difficulties. In addition, the increased use of fossil fuels is wreaking havoc on the ecosystem. In order to solve these issues, we describe a simple, low-cost, and environmentally-friendly triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) made of electronic waste and recycled plastic, and we add nanomaterial to improve power generation using biomechanical energy. The present investigation involves synthesizing carbon dots (CDs) nano-material through a single-step hydrothermal technique and CDs nano-material characterized via UV.Vis Spectroscopy. The proposed carbon dot-graphite nano composite-based TENGs (CGC-TENGs) are created by reusing dry cells (electronic waste) to obtain graphite, plastic bottles to obtain plastic, and synthesized CDs. CGC-TENGs manufactures a simple, low-cost, and environmentally friendly In-house quick and bulk fabrication printed electro hydrodynamics (EHD) electrospray process that uses less solvent and does not require specialist equipment or knowledge. Comparing fabricate TENG device results, in which CDs used produced high voltage (127.31 V)/current (107.12 μA), while not using CDs produced low voltage (95.23 V)/current (104.12 μA) at similar fabrication parameters, the size of the devices are 4.5 cm × 7 cm, and 15 N force applied. The CGC-TENG (δ) has maximum output performance and is thoroughly investigated using an open-circuit voltage of 171.30 V, a short circuit current of 111.39 μA, and a maximum output power density of 53.08 μW/cm2. CGC-TENG (δ) was used to power an electronic glucose monitoring device, and twenty-three blue light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to demonstrate its practical applications. The approach we propose produces renewable energy sources by reutilizing plastic waste and technological waste, providing a practical and sustainable path toward our goal of creating a green planet
