    A Computational Vision on Human Emotion

    Late 20th century Artificial Intelligence research treated emotion and cognition as antithetical entities. Recent neurological studies, however, suggest that the two are closely related. Emotion plays a critical role in decision making. Studies also have established that neurological deficits in emotion processing lead to deficiency in decision making. These findings have invoked a new interest in the modeling of emotion in artificially intelligent systems. The Dependable Computing and Networking Lab (DCNL) at ISU, led by Dr. Arun Somani, is researching human emotion modeling using Computer Vision. The study will engender novel ideas to adapt the existing emotion-modeling framework in the research realm to the needs of the Human and Object Detection project in the DCNL group. We believe that this study could also lead to new and innovative models of human emotion. Computational tools such as OpenCV and MATLAB will be used to test and validate new models and adaptations. Using machine learning methods, the reliability and efficacy of the new methods will also be evaluated

    Telescience capability for the Sondre Stromfjord, Greenland, incoherent-scatter radar facility

    SRI International (SRI) operates an upper-atmospheric research facility in Sondre Stromfjord (Sondrestrom), Greenland. In the past, the facility's remote location and limited logistical support imposed constraints on the research that could be carried out at the site. Campaigns involving multiple instruments were often constrained due to limited space, and experiments requiring coordination with other geographically separated facilities, though possible, were difficult. To provide greater access to the facility, an electronic connection between Sondrestrom and the mainland U.S.A. was established, providing access to the National Science Internet. SRI developed telescience software that sends data from the incoherent scatter radar at the Sondrestrom facility to SRI's offices in Menlo Park, California. This software uses the transmission control protocol (TCP/IP) to transmit the data in near real time between the two locations and the X window system to generate displays of the data in Menlo Park. This is in contrast to using the X window system to display data remotely across a wide-area network. Using CP to transport data over the long distance network has resulted in significantly improved network throughput and latency. While currently used to transport radar data, the telescience software is designed and intended for simultaneous use with other instruments at Sondrestrom and other facilities.     Automatic Vehicle Over speed Controlling System using Microcontroller Unit and ARCAD

    The main purpose of this paper is to develop a system that avoid accidents because of vehicles with high speed. Also, authorizes the pedestrians and public to cross the highway road with no risk from vehicles which are moving with high speed. Generally, drivers of the vehicles with high speed drives in an uncontrollable manner even in speed limited areas without taking into consideration about the public. Even traffic policemen could not able to control them and attain good response from the high speed vehicle drivers. Also, we cannot monitor them to limit their speed at all times in those areas. So, here we develop a system which controls the speed of the vehicles in those locations without involving the drivers. Here, we employ RF communication method in controlling the speed of the vehicles. Finally, we connect RF receiver to the vehicle and locations are connected with the transmitter. Also, the transmitters are coded to send the transmitted signals continuously with a small delay between the adjacent signals. So, if a high speed vehicle is entering the location then their receivers will automatically senses the received code. Thereafter, the speed of the vehicle is limited dynamically by employing an embedded system inside them

In photovoltaic arrays, cells are arranged in series to obtain the required voltage. The output characteristic feature of photovoltaic array show a discrepancy radically by way of solar irradiation, temperature and presents MPP under various atmospheric nominal conditions. Based on Perturbation and Observation method, MPP is tracked for PV. The DC-DC converter is used to improve the output voltage and are widely used in solar energy conversion systems.. Here ultra-lift LUO converters are normally used to convert low input voltage in to high output voltage (same principle of Boost converter). But these converters are not stable in voltage lift and less reliability. By using Voltage lift method, voltage transfer gain higher than other classical converters is obtained

    Deutsche multinationale Unternehmen sind im Durchschnitt weniger forschungsintensiv als Unternehmen in den USA, Japan und einigen nordeuropäischen Ländern. Der entscheidende Grund dafür ist, dass sie weniger in den besonders forschungsintensiven Sektoren der Spitzentechnologie und den wissensintensiven Dienstleistungen tätig sind. Bei einem Vergleich innerhalb der einzelnen Branchen schneiden deutsche Unternehmen dagegen keineswegs schlechter ab als Unternehmen aus den USA und Japan. Die Ausgaben der Wirtschaft für Forschung und Entwicklung (FuE) sind in Industrieländern wie Deutschland stark auf wenige multinationale Unternehmen konzentriert. Eine substanzielle Erhöhung der FuE-Ausgaben ist in Deutschland nur zu erwarten, wenn mehr große Unternehmen in den besonders forschungsintensiven Technologiesektoren heranwachsen.     Nowadays low voltage distribution network is considered as worldwide future generation distribution network. But the major concern is harmonics generation and steps taken to cancel those harmonics. In our proposed work, low voltage distribution network is designed with low voltage and harmonics are cancelled in our method. The combination of current control unit and voltage control unit will give extra reliable power solution to increase the required capacity of low voltage grids. The high voltage protection gears are used in worst environment for low voltage and low current distribution network test is preferable to assess a variety of operation uniqueness. Therefore, it has few restrictions in implementation of economic in addition to process methodologies. In our work a 48V direct current base up-scale low voltage distribution network test is urbanized to allow the copy and surveillance of a variety of phenomenon of direct current distribution networks. The proposed system provide stretchy pattern ability by introduce S-connectors and T-connectors module that will be proscribed distantly, and near real time monitor function through by means of a data acquisition system associated toward the nodes. Each connector be able to calculate Power, Voltage and current with up to 250 kHz frequency. To calculate power quality and to understand the performance of the distribution network, frequency analysis is required along with collected data

    Proposing a cultural landscape paradigm: a case study: Prospect reservoir at Western Sydney

    The study sets out to investigate and question the Burra Charter, its Interpretations and approaches for protection of cultural landscape in Australia. While achieving the preservation of state and national icons, the Charter has overlooked the meanings and values of heritage landscape. Drawing on the field of landscape theory, my research seeks to extend the theoretical approach to study of the cultural landscape. Thus, this thesis proposes the cultural landscape paradigm (CLP) which provides a framework to interpret the inherent values of cultural landscape based on ecological, experiential and narrative approaches. Towards this goal, the research attempts to demonstrate and apply the CLP by conducting a case study of the culturally significant landscape of Prospect Reservoir in western Sydney. The study is undertaken with the help of a detailed analysis of landscape elements, historic documents, narrative references, personal observations and photographs. I found that although the site has been conserved on the principles of the Burra Charter, the regional identity and sense of place has not been taken into account. Over time, degradation of the ecosystem has changed the ecological, narrative and experiential quality of the place. Thus the landscape reflects the Burra Charter's values of national, state significance, and dominance in portraying a story of European past, with limited concern for aboriginal cultural landscape. A current issue at the site is the increasing urban pressure of western Sydney. How can we interpret, protect the regional identity and cope with the ecological changes so as to maintain the continuity with the past landscape? Similarly to what extent does the Burra Charter address these issues? I respond to these questions by developing and applying the CLP. This results in expanding the values and meaning of the cultural landscape of Prospect Reservoir, and provides guidance for cultural landscape planning in general. Hence, the thesis also demonstrates the need for the Burra Charter practitioners to rethink their actions for the future of cultural landscapes, where the landscape is a continuously changing, naturally and socially driven phenomenon

    A new species of hormurid scorpion is described from the Western Ghats of India. Chiromachetes sahyadriensis sp. nov. differs from other members of this genus in the following set of characters: medium sized scorpions, total length reaching 62.9 mm, carapace flat, three pairs of lateral eyes, manus length/width ratio in males 4.6–4.8 and 3.4 in females, tarsi of leg ventrally with three spinoid setae at the base of tarsi. Dentate margin of pedipalp manus finger with two rows of granules fused at base. Pectines 8–9 in males, 6–8 in females. Lamellar hook positioned distinctly in basal half of hemispermatophore in proximity to the lamellae
