An inventory of recent innovations in fruit and fruit products

    Get PDF
The goals of this study were to make an inventory of recent and ongoing fruit and fruit product innovations, to assess what novelty or improvement they offer, and whether consumers could identify and/or recognise them. Researchers from 11 European countries submitted 386 examples of fruit and fruit product innovations. The list of innovations obtained has been coded, categorised, sorted, and reduced in subsequent stages. First, the examples received were categorised according to the Oslo Manual definitions. Second, product and marketing innovations were selected, as they are the only ones that were likely to be recognised by consumers. Next, analysis revealed that the novelties these innovations offered related to Convenience, Health, Differentiation, Target Group, Information, Sensory Characteristics, In Home and/or Out of Home Quality. Some innovations offered only one novel aspect, whereas others offered multiple aspects. Interrelationships between novel aspects are discussed for those innovations that offered a combination of aspects

Where Can Capabilities Come From? How the Content of Network Ties Affects Capability Acquisition

While strategy researchers have devoted considerable attention to the role of firm-specific capabilities in the pursuit of competitive advantage, less attention has been directed at how firms obtain these capabilities from outside a firm's boundaries. This study analyzes how firms' network ties represent one important source of capability acquisition. Theoretically, we go beyond the traditional focus on network structure and offer a novel contingency model that specifies how differences in the content of network ties (e.g., buyer-supplier, equity, and director ties) will differentially affect the process of R&D capability acquisition. Empirically, we also seek to provide an original contribution to the capabilities literature by utilizing a stochastic frontier estimation to rigorously measure firm capabilities, and we demonstrate the value of this approach using longitudinal data on business groups in emerging economies. The supportive results of our analysis show that the effect of network ties on the acquisition of new affiliate capabilities is clearly and predictably contingent on the content of the ties.

Correlation of spray dropsize distribution and injector variables

The atomization characteristics of impinging stream rocket engine injection elements are studied to determine the effects of hydraulic and geometric parameters on the mass median drop size. The major conclusions are: (1) the velocity profile of impinging jets affects mean drop size, this effect is greater when the jets are laminar than when they are turbulent; (2) the drop size/injection velocity dependence for turbulent jet impingement differs from that obtained with non-turbulent jets; (3) the level of turbulence intensity does not affect mean drop size; (4) the impingement of disintegrated or nearly disintegrated jets substantially decreases atomization; and (5) even though an emulsion is formed when immiscible jets impinge, the level of emulsification is small

A Reconfigurable Gate Architecture for Si/SiGe Quantum Dots

We demonstrate a reconfigurable quantum dot gate architecture that incorporates two interchangeable transport channels. One channel is used to form quantum dots and the other is used for charge sensing. The quantum dot transport channel can support either a single or a double quantum dot. We demonstrate few-electron occupation in a single quantum dot and extract charging energies as large as 6.6 meV. Magnetospectroscopy is used to measure valley splittings in the range of 35-70 microeV. By energizing two additional gates we form a few-electron double quantum dot and demonstrate tunable tunnel coupling at the (1,0) to (0,1) interdot charge transition.Comment: Related papers at http://pettagroup.princeton.ed
