Characteristic of x-ray tomography performance using CdTe timepix detector

    Get PDF
X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) is a non-destructive technique for visualizing interior features within solid objects, and for obtaining digital information on their 3-D geometries and properties. The selection of CdTe Timepix detector has a sufficient performance of imaging detector is based on quality of detector performance and energy resolution. The study of Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) shows a 70% contrast at 4 lp/mm was achieved for the 55 µm pixel pitch detector with the 60 kVp X-ray tube and 5 keV noise level. No significant degradation in performance was observed for X-ray tube energies of 20 – 60 keV. The paper discusses the application of the CdTe Timepix detector to produce a good quality image of X-ray tomography imaging

Oral Cancer Awareness and its Determinants among a Selected Malaysian Population

Objective: To assess oral cancer awareness, its associated factors and related sources of information among a selected group of Malaysians. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted on all Malaysian ethnic groups aged >= 15 years old at eight strategically chosen shopping malls within a two week time period. Data were analysed using chi-square tests and multiple logistic regression. Significance level was set at alpha<0.05. Results: Most (84.2%) respondents had heard of oral cancer. Smoking was the most (92.4%) recognized high risk habit. Similar levels of awareness were seen for unhealed ulcers (57.3%) and red/white patches (58.0%) as signs of oral cancer. Age, gender, ethnicity, marital status, education, occupation and income were significantly associated with oral cancer awareness (p<0.05). Conclusions: There was a general lack of awareness regarding the risk habits, early signs and symptoms, and the benefits of detecting this disease at an early stage. Mass media and health campaigns were the main sources of information about oral cancer. In our Malaysian population, gender and age were significantly associated with the awareness of early signs and symptoms and prevention of oral cancer, respectively.Article Link: http://koreascience.or.kr/article/ArticleFullRecord.jsp?cn=POCPA9_2013_v14n3_195

Nonideal Solution Behavior in Forward Osmosis Processes Using Magnetic Nanoparticles

    Get PDF
Despite the tremendous progress made toward the realization of wider application for forward osmosis (FO) technologies, lack of suitable draw solutes that provide high water flux, low reverse solute flux, and facile recovery has hindered commercial development. An extensive variety of osmotic agents have been investigated during the past decade, and while simple inorganic salts remain the most widely used, organic-coated magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) offer exploitable properties that hold great promise. In addition to size-mitigated reverse flux and low-cost recovery via magnetic separation, devitalized MNPs provide enhanced osmotic performance when compared to that of the ungrafted coating material at similar concentration levels, a consequence of greater nonideal solution behavior. This nonideality has been assessed using a simple, semiempirical model and is largely attributable to the increased solvent-accessible surface area and enhanced hydration. When attached to MNPs, polymers appear to behave osmotically as much smaller molecules, providing higher osmotic pressures and improved FO performance

Having tight competition in taxi industry, a company should be able to increase its services for their customers. For that reason, company has to know about the customers\u27 satisfaction in order to meet their expectations. Measuring the customer\u27s satisfaction would be very useful for the company in evaluating the recent company\u27s position compared with the competitors and to find out which part or division that should be improved. Direct customer feedback is a means to measure the customer\u27s satisfaction. There are two purposes of this research: 1) whether service quality factors such as tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy are considered simultaneously by customer to meet their satisfaction in choosing taxi as public transportation; 2) which factors that would become the customer\u27s main consideration to meet their satisfaction in choosing taxi as public transportation. This research was conducted in Malang. In analyzing the data, this research used Confirmatory Factor Analysis. The results of the research show that: 1) the service quality factors such as tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy are simultaneously considered by customers to meet their satisfaction in choosing taxi as public transportation; 2) The tangibles factor becomes a main consideration for the customers to meet their satisfaction

This research is aimed at identifying the dimension of service qualities, examining them both simultaneously and partially, and also determining the dominant dimensions of service qualities affecting customer satisfaction. This research is replicated from a research done by R.L. Snipes et al. (1996). Purposive is used for determining research object and the sampling techniques is use accidental sampling. Population target is all passengers in Executive Class Train. Research sample has 168 respondents that taken from quistionnaires distribution in the three stations i.e.: Gubeng station, Pasar Turi station and Malang station. And method of data gathering employs a set of questionnaires. The analysis is used Confirmatory Factor Anaysis (CFA) and Exploratory Factor Analysis and continued with multiple linear regression. The result of the research indicates, that : (1) Service quality has 8 dimensions that have affect the customer satisfactions i.e.: image, immediate and clear information, service according to information, time accuracy, physical facilities, service system, additional facilities in the executive class train and reclining/refolving seat (2) Simultaneously, the eighth dimensions which have significance effects to customer satisfactions and partially, there are 4 dimensions have significance effects to customer satisfactions, e.i.: immediate and clear information, time accuracy, physical facilities and additional facilities in the executive class train (3) The dominant dimension is supporting additonal facilities in the executive class during the trip
