    Broadband photonic crystal antireflection

    Get PDF
Broadband antireflection layer have been fabricated by two dimensional (2D) photonic crystals (PCs) with tapered pillars on Si substrate. These PCs have been produced by interference lithography and reactive ion etching (RIE) techniques. The effect of depth and filling factor (FF) of the PCs on the reflectance magnitude and bandwidth has been investigated. The obtained reflectance was less than 1% in the broad spectral range from 400 to 2100 nm. Our numerically simulation shows the PC pillars slope has essential effect in the reduction of the reflection. However, our results show that the existence of RIE grasses in the PCs which are created in the RIE process have not been influenced in the performance of the antireflection layer which leads to simpler fabrication process

Versatile control of metal-assisted chemical etching for vertical silicon microwire arrays and their photovoltaic applications

A systematic study was conducted into the use of metal-assisted chemical etching (MacEtch) to fabricate vertical Si microwire arrays, with several models being studied for the efficient redox reaction of reactants with silicon through a metal catalyst by varying such parameters as the thickness and morphology of the metal film. By optimizing the MacEtch conditions, high-quality vertical Si microwires were successfully fabricated with lengths of up to 23.2 mu m, which, when applied in a solar cell, achieved a conversion efficiency of up to 13.0%. These solar cells also exhibited an open-circuit voltage of 547.7 mV, a short-circuit current density of 33.2 mA/cm(2), and a fill factor of 71.3% by virtue of the enhanced light absorption and effective carrier collection provided by the Si microwires. The use of MacEtch to fabricate high-quality Si microwires therefore presents a unique opportunity to develop cost-effective and highly efficient solar cells.open1

CMOS compatible W/CoFeB/MgO spin Hall nano-oscillators with wide frequency tunability

We demonstrate low-operational-current W/Co20Fe60B20/MgO spin Hall nano-oscillators (SHNOs) on highly resistive silicon (HiR-Si) substrates. Thanks to a record high spin Hall angle of the beta-phase W (theta(SH) = -0.53), a very low threshold current density of 3.3 x 10(7) A/cm(2) can be achieved. Together with their very wide frequency tunability (7-28GHz), promoted by a moderate perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, HiR-Si/W/CoFeB based SHNOs are potential candidates for wide-band microwave signal generation. Their CMOS compatibility offers a promising route towards the integration of spintronic microwave devices with other on-chip semiconductor microwave components.QC 20180504</p
