Malaysia have various crafts include crafts for religious purpose, however, we are still using Feldman’s art criticism model. Feldman’s criticism model do not accommodate contextual value of the crafts and is not made to judge crafts. Most of art lecturers are familiar with Feldman’s art criticism model because its simplicity which only four phases; describe, analyze, interpret, and judge. This study used content analysis and interviewed two postgraduate students who studied pottery in Mambong Village. I modify Feldman’s art criticism model and propose three phase model; internal, original and historical context. Internal context; description include visual and material descriptions, how pottery or handicraft is made, original context; styles, values, principle design within local context, compare and contrast, examine original and other country influences the styles and historical context: historical moments, events, and trends relate to handicraft, how other interpreters have understood it, where it has been placed in the history of art. The model will help student or researchers to evaluate and appreciate the value of crafts including religious crafts. Students will not only know how to judge the quality of the crafts, but they will also appreciate the history and cultural context of the crafts

The British pillboxes built in Kelantan in 1941 during World War II, although damaged, continue to attract tourists. However, they have considerably less impact on residents, with the exception of war veterans, and there are plans to relocate the pillboxes in Bachok. The present study uses a range of methods to analyze the structures and to evaluate community awareness of them: field observation and setting coordinates for all pillboxes, taking photographs to consolidate data, and administering a questionnaire to 100 respondents. The results show that these monuments can be an economic resource and can help to raise awareness of historical value in relation to the formation of Malaysia. Adapting postmodernist art curricula in Malaysia and Indonesia

    No full text
Abstract Postmodernist arts movement influence over Malaysia and Indonesia artists for over twenty years, and many Malaysian and Indonesian artists utilize these concept. However, the art education in some universities in Indonesia and UMK are still based on modernist curriculums. Adapting postmordenist curricula will be challenged in Malaysia and Indonesia because the social issues and different principal are required to be integrated into the curricula. Students should learn interdisciplinary subject matter; various media and technologies; local content (non western) and western concepts of space and design; hidden-stream art and artist; and enlarge artistic canon. Postmodernist curricula enrich existing modernist curricula. In order to know the student's prior knowlege about postmodernist issues, survey method are employed to investigate 50 students in Universitas Tarumanagara Jakarta in 2010, and 18 students in Universiti Malaysia Kelantan in 2011. The results show students from both universities have a little knowledge about postmodernist issues. Moreover, the survey used photo and film criticism instruments to know the student's prior knowledge. I recommend to develop postmodernist curricula:
