Human papillomavirus infection in women with and without cervical cancer in Karachi, Pakistan
BACKGROUND: No data exist on the population prevalence of, or risk factors for, human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in predominantly Muslim countries in Asia. METHODS: Cervical specimens were obtained from 899 married women aged 15-59 years from the general population of Karachi, Pakistan and from 91 locally diagnosed invasive cervical cancers (ICCs). HPV was detected using a GP5+/6+ PCR-based assay. RESULTS: The prevalence of HPV in the general population was 2.8%, with no evidence of higher HPV prevalence in young women. The positivity of HPV was associated with women's lifetime number of sexual partners, but particularly with the age difference between spouses and other husbands' characteristics, such as extramarital sexual relationships and regular absence from home. The HPV16/18 accounted for 24 and 88% of HPV-positive women in the general population and ICC, respectively. CONCLUSION: Cervical cancer prevention policies should take into account the low HPV prevalence and low acceptability of gynaecological examination in this population
Observation of a charged charmoniumlike structure in at GeV
We study the process at a
center-of-mass energy of 4.26GeV using a 827pb data sample obtained with
the BESIII detector at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider. Based on a
partial reconstruction technique, the Born cross section is measured to be
pb. We observe a structure near the
threshold in the recoil mass spectrum, which we denote as the
. The measured mass and width of the structure are
MeV/c and MeV, respectively. Its
production ratio is determined to be . The first uncertainties
are statistical and the second are systematic.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, 1 table; version accepted to be published in PR
Study of and and
We study the decays of and to the final states
and based on a single
baryon tag method using data samples of
and events collected with
the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The decays to
are observed for the first time. The
measured branching fractions of and
are in good agreement with, and much
more precise, than the previously published results. The angular parameters for
these decays are also measured for the first time. The measured angular decay
parameter for , , is found to be negative, different to the other
decay processes in this measurement. In addition, the "12\% rule" and isospin
symmetry in the and and
systems are tested.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures. This version is consistent with paper published
in Phys.Lett. B770 (2017) 217-22
Observation and study of the decay
We report the observation and study of the decay
using events
collected with the BESIII detector. Its branching fraction, including all
possible intermediate states, is measured to be
. We also report evidence for a structure,
denoted as , in the mass spectrum in the GeV/
region. Using two decay modes of the meson ( and
), a simultaneous fit to the mass spectra is
performed. Assuming the quantum numbers of the to be , its
significance is found to be 4.4, with a mass and width of MeV/ and MeV, respectively, and a
product branching fraction
. Alternatively, assuming , the
significance is 3.8, with a mass and width of MeV/ and MeV, respectively, and a product
branching fraction
. The angular distribution of
is studied and the two assumptions of the
cannot be clearly distinguished due to the limited statistics. In all
measurements the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures and 4 table
Search for C-parity violation in and
Using events recorded in
collisions at 3.686 GeV with the BESIII at the BEPCII collider, we
present searches for C-parity violation in and decays via . No significant
signals are observed in either channel. Upper limits on the branching fractions
are set to be and
at the 90\%
confidence level. The former is one order of magnitude more stringent than the
previous upper limit, and the latter represents the first limit on this decay
channel.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure
Search for the Lepton Flavor Violation Process at BESIII
We search for the lepton-flavor-violating decay of the into an
electron and a muon using events
collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. Four candidate
events are found in the signal region, consistent with background expectations.
An upper limit on the branching fraction of (90% C.L.) is obtained
Observation of at BESIII
Using events collected with the BESIII detector
at the BEPCII storage rings, we observe for the first time the process
,
with a significance of ( including systematic
uncertainties). The product branching fraction of is measured to be
, where the first error is statistical and the
second is systematic. This measurement provides information on the
production near threshold coupling to and improves the understanding
of the dynamics of decays to four body processes.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure
Observation of the state in at BESIII
We report the observation of the in the process with a statistical
significance of , in data samples at center-of-mass energies
4.230, 4.260, 4.360, 4.420 and 4.600~GeV collected with the BESIII
detector at the BEPCII electron positron collider. The measured mass of the
is ~MeV/, where the first error is
statistical and the second systematic, and the width is less than ~MeV at
the 90\% confidence level. The products of the Born cross sections for
and the branching ratio are also measured. These measurements are in good
agreement with the assignment of the as the charmonium
state.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, version to appear in Phys. Rev. Let
Precision measurement of the decay branching fractions
Using 482 pb of data taken at GeV, we measure the
branching fractions of the decays of into and
to be \BR(D^{*0} \to D^0\pi^0)=(65.5\pm 0.8\pm 0.5)% and \BR(D^{*0} \to
D^0\gamma)=(34.5\pm 0.8\pm 0.5)% respectively, by assuming that the
decays only into these two modes. The ratio of the two branching fractions is
\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0\pi^0)/\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0\gamma) =1.90\pm 0.07\pm 0.05,
which is independent of the assumption made above. The first uncertainties are
statistical and the second ones systematic. The precision is improved by a
factor of three compared to the present world average values
Observation of the Dalitz Decay
We report the first observation of the Dalitz decay , based on a data sample of 1.31 billion events collected with
the BESIII detector. The mesons are produced via the decay process. The ratio is measured to be
. This
corresponds to a branching fraction . The transition form
factor is extracted and different expressions are compared to the measured
dependence on the invariant mass. The results are consistent with the
prediction of the Vector Meson Dominance model.Comment: 11 pages,7 figure
