Projection Measurement of the Maximally Entangled N-Photon State for a Demonstration of N-Photon de Broglie Wavelength

We construct a projection measurement process for the maximally entangled N-photon state (the NOON-state) with only linear optical elements and photodetectors. This measurement process will give null result for any N-photon state that is orthogonal to the NOON state. We examine the projection process in more detail for N=4 by applying it to a four-photon state from type-II parametric down-conversion. This demonstrates an orthogonal projection measurement with a null result. This null result corresponds to a dip in a generalized Hong-Ou-Mandel interferometer for four photons. We find that the depth of the dip in this arrangement can be used to distinguish a genuine entangled four-photon state from two separate pairs of photons. We next apply the NOON state projection measurement to a four-photon superposition state from two perpendicularly oriented type-I parametric down-conversion processes. A successful NOON state projection is demonstrated with the appearance of the four-photon de Broglie wavelength in the interference fringe pattern.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, new title, some content change, replaced Fig.

An all fiber source of frequency entangled photon pairs

We present an all fiber source of frequency entangled photon pairs by using four wave mixing in a Sagnac fiber loop. Special care is taken to suppress the impurity of the frequency entanglement by cooling the fiber and by matching the polarization modes of the photon pairs counter-propagating in the fiber loop. Coincidence detection of signal and idler photons, which are created in pair and in different spatial modes of the fiber loop, shows the quantum interference in the form of spatial beating, while the single counts of the individual signal (idler) photons keep constant. When the production rate of photon pairs is about 0.013 pairs/pulse, the envelope of the quantum interference reveals a visibility of (95±2)(95\pm 2)%, which is close to the calculated theoretical limit 97.4%Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures, to appear in Phys. New Approach on the General Shape Equation of Axisymmetric Vesicles

The general Helfrich shape equation determined by minimizing the curvature free energy describes the equilibrium shapes of the axisymmetric lipid bilayer vesicles in different conditions. It is a non-linear differential equation with variable coefficients. In this letter, by analyzing the unique property of the solution, we change this shape equation into a system of the two differential equations. One of them is a linear differential equation. This equation system contains all of the known rigorous solutions of the general shape equation. And the more general constraint conditions are found for the solution of the general shape equation.Comment: 8 pages, LaTex, submit to Mod. Phys. Lett.

Capture on High Curvature Region: Aggregation of Colloidal Particle Bound to Giant Phospholipid Vesicles

A very recent observation on the membrane mediated attraction and ordered aggregation of colloidal particles bound to giant phospholipid vesicles (I. Koltover, J. O. R\"{a}dler, C. R. Safinya, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 82}, 1991(1999)) is investigated theoretically within the frame of Helfrich curvature elasticity theory of lipid bilayer fluid membrane. Since the concave or waist regions of the vesicle possess the highest local bending energy density, the aggregation of colloidal beads on these places can reduce the elastic energy in maximum. Our calculation shows that a bead in the concave region lowers its energy 20kBT\sim 20 k_B T. For an axisymmetrical dumbbell vesicle, the local curvature energy density along the waist is equally of maximum, the beads can thus be distributed freely with varying separation distance.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figures. Comparisons and Applications of Four Independent Numerical Approaches for Linear Gyrokinetic Drift Modes

To help reveal the complete picture of linear kinetic drift modes, four independent numerical approaches, based on integral equation, Euler initial value simulation, Euler matrix eigenvalue solution and Lagrangian particle simulation, respectively, are used to solve the linear gyrokinetic electrostatic drift modes equation in Z-pinch with slab simplification and in tokamak with ballooning space coordinate. We identify that these approaches can yield the same solution with the difference smaller than 1\%, and the discrepancies mainly come from the numerical convergence, which is the first detailed benchmark of four independent numerical approaches for gyrokinetic linear drift modes. Using these approaches, we find that the entropy mode and interchange mode are on the same branch in Z-pinch, and the entropy mode can have both electron and ion branches. And, at strong gradient, more than one eigenstate of the ion temperature gradient mode (ITG) can be unstable and the most unstable one can be on non-ground eigenstates. The propagation of ITGs from ion to electron diamagnetic direction at strong gradient is also observed, which implies that the propagation direction is not a decisive criterion for the experimental diagnosis of turbulent mode at the edge plasmas.Comment: 12 pages, 10 figures, accept by Physics of Plasma

Research on UBI auto insurance pricing model based on parameter adaptive SAPSO optimal fuzzy controller

Aiming at the problem of “dynamic” accurate determination of rates in UBI auto insurance pricing, this paper proposes a UBI auto insurance pricing model based on fuzzy controller and optimizes it with a parameter adaptive SASPO. On the basis of the SASPO algorithm, the movement direction of the particles can be mutated and the direction can be dynamically controlled, the inertia weight value is given by the distance between the particle and the global optimal particle, and the learning factor is calculated according to the change of the fitness value, which realizes the parameter in the running process. Effective self-adjustment. A five-dimensional fuzzy controller is constructed by selecting the monthly driving mileage, the number of violations, and the driving time at night in the UBI auto insurance data. The weights are used to form fuzzy rules, and a variety of algorithms are used to optimize the membership function and fuzzy rules and compare them. The research results show that, compared with other algorithms, the parameter adaptive SAPAO algorithm can calculate more reasonable, accurate and high-quality fuzzy rules and membership functions when processing UBI auto insurance data. The accuracy and robustness of UBI auto insurance rate determination can realize dynamic and accurate determination of UBI auto insurance rates

An experimental investigation of criteria for continuous variable entanglement

We generate a pair of entangled beams from the interference of two amplitude squeezed beams. The entanglement is quantified in terms of EPR-paradox [Reid88] and inseparability [Duan00] criteria, with observed results of Δ2Xxy+Δ2Xxy=0.58±0.02\Delta^{2} X_{x|y}^{+} \Delta^{2} X_{x|y}^{-} = 0.58 \pm 0.02 and Δ2Xx±y+Δ2Xx±y=0.44±0.01\sqrt{\Delta^{2} X_{x \pm y}^{+} \Delta^{2} X_{x \pm y}^{-}} = 0.44 \pm 0.01, respectively. Both results clearly beat the standard quantum limit of unity. We experimentally analyze the effect of decoherence on each criterion and demonstrate qualitative differences. We also characterize the number of required and excess photons present in the entangled beams and provide contour plots of the efficacy of quantum information protocols in terms of these variables.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
