    Antenna array optimisation using semidefinite programming for cellular communications from HAPs

    Get PDF
    Array pattern optimisation based on semidefinite programming (SDP) is proposed to improve the coverage performance of cellular communications from High Altitude Platforms (HAPs). This optimisation, when applied to a linear vertical array of N omnidirectional antenna elements, allows a coverage performance better than that of an array of N narrowbeam aperture antennas forming hexagonal cells on the ground. In addition to the performance enhancement, the HAP antenna payload can be significantly reduced

    Measurement of surface potential decay of corona-charged polymer films using the pulsed electroacoustic method

    No full text
    In this paper, the pulsed electroacoustic (PEA) technique that allows the determination of space charge in a dielectric material has been used to monitor the electrical potential decay of corona-charged polyethylene films of different thicknesses. To prevent possible disturbance on the surface charge during the PEA measurements, two thin polyethylene films were placed on both sides of the corona-charged sample. Charge profiles measured at different times were used to calculate the potential across the sample. The obtained potential decay was compared with the potential measured using the conventional method. A good agreement has been obtained. More importantly, the charge profile obtained using the PEA technique indicates that bipolar charge injection has taken place

    News on PHOTOS Monte Carlo: gamma^* -> pi^+ pi^-(gamma) and K^\pm -> pi^+ pi^- e^\pm nu (gamma)

    PHOTOS Monte Carlo is widely used for simulating QED effects in decay of intermediate particles and resonances. It can be easily connected to other main process generators. In this paper we consider decaying processes gamma^* -> pi^+ pi^-(gamma) and K^\pm -> pi^+ pi^- e^\pm nu (gamma) in the framework of Scalar QED. These two processes are interesting not only for the technical aspect of PHOTOS Monte Carlo, but also for precision measurement of alpha_{QED}(M_Z), g-2, as well as pi pi scattering lengths.Comment: 6 pages, 11 figures, proceedings of the PhiPsi09, Oct. 13-16, 2009, Beijing, Chin
