Electrochemical testing of an innovative dual membrane fuel cell design in reversible mode

Solid oxide fuel Cells (SOFC) are intrinsically reversible which makes them attractive for the development of reversible devices (rSOC). The main hurdles that have to be overcome are the higher degradation in electrolyzer (EL) mode and the slow and difficult switching form mode to mode. This work aims at the development and experimental validation of a concept for rSOC based on a new dual membrane fuel cell (dmFC) design which can overcome the existing problems of the classical SOFC. The kernel of the system is additional chamber - central membrane (CM) for water formation/evacuation in FC mode and injection in El mode. Its optimization in respect of microstructure and geometry in laboratory conditions is carried out on button cells. The electrochemical performance is evaluated based on volt-ampere characteristics (VACs) combined with impedance measurements in different working points. The influence of a catalyst in the water chamber is also examined. The VACs which give integral picture of the cell performance are in excellent agreement with the impedance studies which ensure deeper and quantitative information about the processes, including information about the rate limiting step. The results from the optimization of the water chamber show that the combination of design and material brings to important principle advantages in respect to the classical rSOC \u2013 better performance in electrolyzer mode combined with instantaneous switching

Development of Organic Agriculture in Bulgaria (1990–2012): Actors, Relations, and Networks

This article analyses the development of organic agriculture (OA) in Bulgaria. It especially examines the actors, relations, and structures that shape organic sector policies. The Bulgarian case shows that sectorial agricultural policies can originate without the direct representation of farmers. Due to the dominance of consultancy NGOs and academic institutions in the policy network, OA first appeared as a political rather than as an economic or social and agricultural topic. However, this specificity contributed to the weak development of the organic sector in the country. Ultimately, farmers became engaged in the policy network for the benefit of the sector when the EU implemented organic subsidies. The article is based on both qualitative and quantitative data and applies the policy network approach as the analytical framework. Our analysis contributes to enriching this approach by exploring the role of the state in terms of both political willingness and administrative capacity and shows that in a post-socialist context, the policy outcome also depends on the synchronisation of these two roles of the state

Interpretacja statystyczna wielowymiarowych danych klinicznych pacjentów z prolaktynemią

This study reveals some specific relationships between the clinical parameters usually checked at prolactinoma patients allowing in such a way to optimize the monitoring procedure by selecting a reduced number of health status indicators. This is achieved by multivariate statistical interpretation of the parameter values where clusters of indicators with correlated (similar) response are proven. Additionally, four patterns of prolactinoma patients are found each one of them characterized by specific clinical indicators. This original information could be of use for better interpretation of the health status of the patients.Przeprowadzone badania pacjentów z prolaktynemią wykazały istnienie pewnych zależnooeci pomiędzy parametrami klinicznymi, umożliwiających optymalizację procedur monitorowania stanu zdrowia za pomocą mniejszej liczby wskaźników. Taką optymalizację można osiągnąć dzięki interpretacji wartooeci parametrów za pomocą wielowymiarowych metod statystycznych, za pomocą których wykazano istnienie skorelowanych grup zmiennych wskaźnikowych. Dodatkowo stwierdzono istnienie czterech grup pacjentów z prolaktynemią, charakteryzujących się specyficznymi wskaźnikami klinicznymi. Informacje te mogą być wykorzystane do lepszej oceny stanu zdrowia pacjentów

The Effect of Low Corporate Tax Rate on Payroll Tax Evasion

It is a commonly held view that the widespread policy of cutting the corporate income tax has a positive effect on taxable income through decreasing firms' incentive to hide profits. A neglected side of this policy, however, is its potential to trigger more evasion in other tax bases, such as the social security base, especially if the corporate income tax rate is low compared to the payroll rate.
