First- and Second-Order Phase Transitions, Fulde-Ferrel Inhomogeneous State and Quantum Criticality in Ferromagnet/Superconductor Double Tunnel Junctions
First- and second-order phase transitions, Fulde-Ferrel (FF) inhomogeneous
superconducting (SC) state and quantum criticality in
ferromagnet/superconductor/ferromagnet double tunnel junctions are
investigated. For the antiparallel alignment of magnetizations, it is shown
that a first-order phase transition from the homogeneous BCS state to the
inhomogeneous FF state occurs at a certain bias voltage ; while the
transitions from the BCS state and the FF state to the normal state at are of the second-order. A phase diagram for the central superconductor
is presented. In addition, a quantum critical point (QCP), , is
identified. It is uncovered that near the QCP, the SC gap, the chemical
potential shift induced by the spin accumulation, and the difference of free
energies between the SC and normal states vanish as with
the quantum critical exponents , 1 and 2, respectively. The tunnel
conductance and magnetoresistance are also discussed.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, Phys. Rev. B 71, 144514 (2005
Calorimetric Evidence for Nodes in the Overdoped Ba(FeCo)As
We present low-temperature specific heat of the electron-doped
Ba(FeCo)As, which does not show any indication of
an upturn down to 400 mK, the lowest measuring temperature. The lack of a
Schottky-like feature at low temperatures or in magnetic fields up to 9 Tesla
enables us to identify enhanced low-temperature quasiparticle excitations and
to study anisotropy in the linear term of the specific heat. Our results can
not be explained by a single or multiple isotropic superconducting gap, but are
consistent with multi-gap superconductivity with nodes on at least one Fermi
surface sheet.Comment: 5 pages 4 figure
Semi-Inclusive B\to K(K^*) X Decays with Initial Bound State Effects
The effects of initial quark bound state for the semi-inclusive decays
are studied using light cone expansion and heavy quark
effective theory methods. We find that the initial bound state effects on the
branching ratios and CP asymmetries are small. In the light cone expansion
approach, the CP-averaged branching ratios are increased by about 2% with
respect to the free -quark decay. For , the
CP-averaged branching ratios are sensitive to the phase and the CP
asymmetry can be as large as 7% (14%), whereas for the CP-averaged branching ratios are not sensitive to and
the CP asymmetries are small (). The CP-averaged branching ratios are
predicted to be in the ranges [] for and [] for , depending on the value of the CP violating phase . In
the heavy quark effective theory approach, we find that the branching ratios
are decreased by about 10% and the CP asymmetries are not affected. These
predictions can be tested in the near future.Comment: 29 pages, 12 ps figure
Observation of an unusual field dependent slow magnetic relaxation and two distinct transitions in a family of new complexes
An unusual field dependent slow magnetic relaxation and two distinct
transitions were observed in a family of new rare earth-transition metal
complexes, [Ln (bipy) (HO) M(CN)] 1.5 (bipy) 4HO (bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine; Ln = Gd,Y; M = Fe,
Co). The novel magnetic relaxation, which is quite different from those
in normal spin glasses and superparamagnets but very resembles qualitatively
those in single-molecule magnet Mn-Ac even if they possess different
structures, might be attributed to the presence of frustration that is
incrementally unveiled by the external magnetic field. The two distinct
transitions in [GdFe] were presumed from DC and AC susceptibility as well as
heat capacity measurements.Comment: Revtex, 6 figure
A proposed reaction channel for the synthesis of the superheavy nucleus Z = 109
We apply a statistical-evaporation model (HIVAP) to calculate the cross
sections of superheavy elements, mainly about actinide targets and compare with
some available experimental data. A reaction channel Si + Am is
proposed for the synthesis of the element Z = 109 and the cross section is
estimated.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, 2 tables; two typos are corrected in Ref. [12]

Total Reaction Cross Section in an Isospin-Dependent Quantum Molecular Dynamics (IDQMD) Model
The isospin-dependent quantum molecular dynamics (IDQMD) model is used to
study the total reaction cross section . The energy-dependent Pauli
volumes of neutrons and protons have been discussed and introduced into the
IDQMD calculation to replace the widely used energy-independent Pauli volumes.
The modified IDQMD calculation can reproduce the experimental well
for both stable and exotic nuclei induced reactions. Comparisons of the
calculated induced by with different initial density
distributions have been performed. It is shown that the calculation by using
the experimentally deduced density distribution with a long tail can fit the
experimental excitation function better than that by using the
Skyrme-Hartree-Fock calculated density without long tails. It is also found
that at high energy is sensitive to the long tail of density
distribution.Comment: 4 page, 4 fig
Parallel momentum distribution of the Si fragments from P
Distribution of the parallel momentum of Si fragments from the breakup
of 30.7 MeV/nucleon P has been measured on C targets. The distribution
has the FWHM with the value of 110.5 23.5 MeV/c which is consistent
quantitatively with Galuber model calculation assuming by a valence proton in
P. The density distribution is also predicted by Skyrme-Hartree-Fock
calculation. Results show that there might exist the proton-skin structure in
P.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Fluctuation of the download network
The scaling behavior of fluctuation for a download network which we have
investigated a few years ago based upon Zhang's Encophysics web page has been
presented. A power law scaling, namely exists
between the dispersion and average flux of the download rates.
The fluctuation exponent is neither 1/2 nor 1 which was claimed as two
universal fluctuation classes in previous publication, instead it varies from
1/2 to 1 with the time window in which the download data were accumulated. The
crossover behavior of fluctuation exponents can be qualitatively understood by
the external driving fluctuation model for a small-size system or a network
traffic model which suggests congestion as the origin.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
-scaling and Information Entropy in Ultra-Relativistic Nucleus-Nucleus Collisions
The -scaling method has been applied to ultra-relativistic p+p, C+C
and Pb+Pb collision data simulated using a high energy Monte Carlo package,
LUCIAE 3.0. The -scaling is found to be valid for some physical
variables, such as charged particle multiplicity, strange particle multiplicity
and number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions from these simulated
nucleus-nucleus collisions over an extended energy ranging from = 20
to 200 A GeV. In addition we derived information entropy from the multiplicity
distribution as a function of beam energy for these collisions.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, 1 table; to appear in the July Issue of Chin.
