Experiences of midwives and women on the birth wish list
VecmÄtes un sievietes ir novÄrojuÅ”as, ka dzemdÄ«bu process norit ÄtrÄk, ja tiek izmantots DzVS.Title of the paper ā Experiences of midwives and women on the childbirth wish list.
Aim of the paper ā Study the experience of midwives and women on the childbirth wish list.
Introduction and theoretical background ā In the list of childbirth expectations, women express their wishes and needs, which would favour and hope for the birth process. It does not replace the information provided by the medical officer, nor does it constitute a mother as the main organiser of the labor process, but it allows her to influence the decisions in question (Alba-RodrĆguez, 2022). A systematic review was carried out from a number of electronic databases, where it was concluded that the development of childbirth wish list was linked to overall positive labour outcomes, with particularly positive results for reproductive women when developed in cooperation with care providers (Bell, 2022). In order to experience positive childbirth experience, the World Health Organisation recommends that women should have a birth wish list that is personalised according to the needs and expectations of a woman (WHO, 2018).
Research question ā What is the experience of midwives and women on the childbirth wish list?
Research method ā A qualitative study using a method of phenomenology that allows to understand the experience of one or more individuals with regard to a particular phenomenon; a description of the experience of one or more individuals. According to the selection criteria, midwives and women were invited to participate in a semi-structured interview. Before the interview participants learned about the subject, the aim and confidentiality used in work.
Results of the research ā The interview responses were divided into 35 categories (midwives ā 20; women ā 15), 32 sub-sections (midwives - 18; women - 14) and eight topics (midwives ā 5; women -3). Common topics were raised: midwives - midwife associations with the childbirth wish list; maternity expectations; making of childbirth wish list; a list of maternity desires and maternity; popularity of childbirth wish list. Women: creating a birth wish list; wishes of childbirth; giving birth using childbirth wish list.
Findings of the study ā The expectations from women that midwives have observed are procedures that can be fulfilled everyday ā skin-to-skin contact immediately after labor and the delayed umbilical cord separation, as well as the least possible manipulations in the labor process. Women in labor have the opportunity to get involved and control labor. Midwives and women have observed that the labor process is taking place more quickly when the childbirth wish list is used
