Nitric oxide accelerates mycorrhizal effects on plant growth and root development of trifoliate orange

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) actively colonize plant roots and thus enhance plant growth through different mechanisms. In the present study, trifoliate orange (Poncirus trifoliata) seedlings inoculated with Diversispora versiformis were subjected to 0 and 0.2 mmol/L sodium nitroprusside (SNP, a nitric oxide donor) treatments. After eight weeks, exogenous SNP considerably increased root mycorrhizal colonization by 25%, showing a positive stimulating effect of NO on mycorrhizal formation. Mycorrhizal inoculation significantly increased plant growth performance (height, stem diameter, leaf number and shoot and root dry weight) and root traits (length, projected area, surface area, volume and number of 2nd and 3rd order lateral roots) than non-mycorrhizal treatment and NO (exogenous SNP treatment) heavily strengthened the mycorrhizal effects. Moreover, NO and mycorrhization induced more fine root (0-0.5 cm) formation. There was an opposite changed trend in root sucrose and leaf and root glucose contents by SNP in AMF versus non-AMF seedlings. All these results implied that NO plays important roles in mycorrhizal formation and development and also accelerates mycorrhizal effects on plant growth and root development of trifoliate orange

Physiological and immunoblot analyses of a nitric oxide synthase (NOS)-like protein of pea (Pisum sativum L.)

Nitric oxide (NO) functions as a signal molecule in different biological processes in plants, including disease resistance. Its production is related to nitric oxide synthase (NOS). The application of chemicals that induce systemic resistance in plants did not induce NOS activity in pea, suggesting that NO functions upstream of salicylic acid (SA) in the signaling pathway of defense responses in plants. NOS activity was induced in both the incompatible and compatible interactions of pea with Ralstonia solanacearum and Pseudomonas syringae pv pisi, respectively, between 3 h to 6 h post-infiltration, indicating that NOS was involved in both resistance and disease development responses in pea. Antibodies raised against mammalian NOS did not have specificity in detecting a NOS-like protein in pea, suggesting that the pea NOS-like protein could be structurally different from mammalian NOS, and immunodetection of a plant NOS-like protein must be conducted with caution and verified with functional assays

ESTIMATION THE PREFERENCE OF ECOTOURISM FOR GAOMEI WETLAND IN TAIWAN

Gaomei Wetland is not only the biggest grassy coastal wetland, but also a wild‐animal protecting area, located on the west‐central coast of Taiwan.Wetlands are considered as one of the most important natural resource, which offer a lot of benefits for human and other creatures. However, it is believed that over-intensive recreational activities in Gaomei Wetland should be responsible for serious damages on natural environment and ecosystem. This study takes Gaomei wetland as an example, and aims to estimate its landscape and ecological services values through Choice experiment. The results of this research showed that Gaomei landscape’s economic value is 2.06million(USD)peryear,and2.06 million (USD) per year, and 1.54 million (USD) for its value of ecological services. These findings can help to bring up the awareness of natural resource preservation, and hopefully to keep Gaomei Wetland substantial. The results also indicated that visitors with undergraduate degree or above were willing to pay $6.43 (USD) per year for entry fee to enjoy sunset scenery in Gaomei wetland

In the title coordination polymer, {[Mn(C12H14O4)(C12H8N2)(H2O)]·H2O}n, the MnII atom has a highly distorted cis-MnN2O4 octahedral geometry arising from its coordination by a bidentate phenanthroline ligand, a water molecule and monodentate and bidentate adamantane-1,3-dicarboxylate dianions. The bridging dianion leads to [001] chains in the crystal. The chains are linked by O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, involving both the coordinated and uncoordinated water molecules, thereby forming a two-dimensional network

Using the spontaneous parametric down-conversion process in a type-I phase matching BBO crystal as single photon source, we perform an all-or-nothing-type Kochen-Specker experiment proposed by Simon \QTR{it}{et al}. [Phys. Rev. Lett. \QTR{bf}{85}, 1783 (2000)] to verify whether noncontextual hidden variables or quantum mechanics is right. The results strongly agree with quantum mechanics.Comment: 3 figure
